- After an anticlimactic result from the intake manifold and throttle body spacers, we are attacking the rest of the intake system by bolting on a Performance Intake System.

Performance air intakes (and Cold Air Intakes or CAIs) smooth out the intake tract, allowing your engine and turbo to breathe better! These parts have been incredibly popular since the dawn of tuner culture. Intakes also unlock more growl from your engine, and metal intakes tend to unleash some pretty excellent turbo noises...
The Mishimoto Automotive intake claims a modest, and maybe honest +6HP gain from their intake. Alan is going to slap the intake on, and check that claim on our in-house dyno.
Will it make more power? Will it make the awesome chuchu turbo noises? Gotta watch to find out, friends!

video! I haven't bought one for my '17 ST yet. Would love if you could include a Mountune, FSWerks, and Ford Performance but I know you have to draw the line somewhere.
It does bring back memories of the Focus exhaust shootout that was done on FocalJet back in the early '00's.

Good choice! Sounds great, right?
IT DOES. I used one and it makes a huge difference.. instead of asking your car for power... the *response time* once your foot hits the accelerator and you get a response is significant.. I had to back off the gas as much. 1 thing I noticed added power too. Ground your spark plugs. Run a negative cable close to the valve cover! You'll be surprised. I'm an electrician and the amount of resistance is *significant enough* to get free power.

I’m buying this Intercooler for my Focus ST today , It sounds amazing! I just bought my race red ST 3 weeks ago because my fbo 09 wrx got totaled, I’m definitely going to cut a peice of hr Plexiglass will holes drilled in the top and fit it on top the filter so it looks clean & can breathe like there’s no cover.
Aw, sorry about the WRX! But nice choice on the FoST and Intake system! That little see-through mod shouldn't be too hard to do!
How did you like going from AWD to FWD? What are your thoughts on the ST? I bought a very clean low mileage Focus RS 1 month ago.

Just got my intake for convenience and ease of taking out the battery when needed 🤣🤣. But the noises don't hurt lol
Swapping the battery wasn't that bad 😂
@annoyedchef7124 it wasn't, but when you do it every 3 years it gets annoying having to take the air box out when you wouldn't have to move anything at all really if you have the right aftermarket intake
@@richardlapoint1845 on 2013 I don't need to take anything away. Just flip the wall in front of the battery and open the bolts. Then rotate it 90 degrees upwards when pulling out.
Alan try the CP-E AUSTENITE exhaust also, CP-E turbo back sounds magical and the quality is amazing.
We run that one on project "full-send".

That small box was stapled... not sure the box cutter was going to make it through that. lol!
Is the AC on during the pulls? I know the pcm is supposed to disengage the compressor clutch during WOT but sometimes mine seems slow to turn off.

Awesome video as always! I know this is off topic but.... do you know if a 2013 Focus ST shifter assembly would work with my 2015 Focus ST. Need a new shifter and my buddy who's parting out his 2013 Focus ST has a short shifter on his. Wanted to use his on my car if possible

Biggest PITA installing my intake was figuring out I HAD to remove cowl to get in there lol

Hello friend, a question may be stupid or let's say that it has nothing to do with this video, I am writing to you this way to find out if you have used the mishimoto radiator for the civic 1.5 turbo and if you have used the hoses of it?
j'ai un cold air intake ramair made in uk , avec une big mouth , la température iat est la même voir 2°c en moins que la température ambiant en roulant vite , ramair annonce 12cv de gain je n'ai pas vérifier avant et après au dyno.
Do you know how this one compartes to the Takeda CAI? Saw it on your website. Not sure which one to go with.
The biggest difference is the box design: The Mishi box is enclosed, while the Takeda is a partition style. Otherwise they are both aluminum and have similar filters.
I tried to install this today on my 2016 idk how to attach the pcv hose or whatever its called to the piping mine has a sensor and i didnt get any adapter or anything
You should have done it with the Hood down that would make a big difference

whats done to the car that allowed it to turbo flutter so much?
Did you have an issue with a clunking from the airbox in 1/2 after this was installed? Seems like the airbox moves with the torque of the engine and hits the battery box maybe?
We have not noticed any clunking, not yet anyway - even though Alan didn't tighten the mounts down all the way... lol
@@EdgeAutosport very strange. I notice on startup and 1-2 shift. Double checked everything seems right. Back to the drawing board! Haha
@@tylerbrown4932 check your downpipe bushing or hanger they tend to suck and exhaust hits the subframe in some gears
MBRP!
MBRP don't sound very good on the ST imo. I've heard a fee I like better. The Borla for one. The MBRP is one of the cheapest cost wise though and they do use decent quality materials. Had an MBRP on my 2001 Zetec Focus ZX3 years ago andit sounded amazing.
Going bigger turbo on my ST which would be a more reliable option the gen 2 2867 or the g 550
G series if you got the $$

Anything that can source cooler, more consistent air temps for the box is a good thing. What the actual results would be is something we haven't tested.

Yeah most likely. The PMax isn't really all that different from stock.
I've got a stock turbo with a similar intake set up. From what I can tell it is mostly the same. This one sounds just a bit better IMO.
Of course I later changed to a true vacuum source for the recirc valve which makes it react completely different.
Yes it will after you take your stock ford rubber plug out. I have a gfb recirc valve myself and it sounds really nice once you change your charge pipes and take the turbo muffler out
That bov you got on that sucker? That intake Sounded mean. Haha
We actually haven't touched the BOV ...yet. The Garrett Powermax turbo is a little more snarly sounding than stock, for sure.

It does!
Does it work with the stock airbox?

Would it be ok drive it with stock tune with this ?
A custom tune is best, certainly. But you shouldn't have any issues running an intake with a stock tune.

Nope. This is for turbocharged Ecoboost engines only, sorry

I don’t remember saying that but the powermax will not hit 373whp. My guess is 320 at best.

That is a stock valve sound with the intake, believe it or not!
What bov did you go with?

MBRP exhaust
I like MBRP and prefer to support a local Canadian company but I just don't like how the MBRP sounds on the ST. I had an MBRP on my 2001 n/a 2.0 Zetec focus and it sounded amazing. New ones not even close.
