    !!!!!! LIKE SO TYLER CAN SEE !!!!!!! The reason why the pressure builds up in the tumblers isn’t because of the grit reacting with what your putting in, it’s the hydrogen in the water reacting with certain metals. Because the tumblers took so long to build up pressure, my guess is that there’s a presence of zinc in there. Next time you use something containing metal in a tumbler research to see if they contain any metals that react with water and don’t use them. Then the lid won’t blow off and you’ll be able to keep them in for as long as intended :)

    • @kaldergames9403

    Hey giving you a heads up on whats happening with the locks. In a normal circumstance Zinc and water form zinc hydroxide which normally becomes passive. However in this case where the tumbler constantly scrapes off the oxidation layer it allows it to continue to react and create a large build up of hydrogen gas. So be careful :D

    I thought this was your best rock tumbler video yet. Instead of everything just being coated black, there was actual change in the items. Failure only happens when you don’t learn anything from mistakes. The accident happened because of a change you made for the better. Now, you learn from that and you get closer to the result you want. That’s what science is all about. Keep up the good work, Tyler!

    I thought this was one of the most interesting rock tumbler vids you've done! I dunno why people would be mad, but a lot of comments I've seen are people trying to tell him how to get results he wants. Things won't get worn down and polished without aggregate and water for lubrication. The problem with that is he keeps putting zinc items in there with the water which makes hydrogen gas after a while, which is causing his explosion/leaking issues, which ends up discouraging him.

    • @bigred22685
      @bigred22685 3 года назад +1

      @Cutting Yoko’s bra! not at all, he just has to watch what he puts in there. He could get the results he wants with anything plastic, glass, steel, aluminum, etc. with water and aggregate, just not zinc things like pennies and masterlocks.

    The water is reacting with the aluminum, breaking the water molecule, releasing hydrogen.

    • @rafaelbiasi
      @rafaelbiasi 3 года назад +2

      @Sans Handlebars It could be brass.
      Brass is an alloy that has zinc. Zinc is also reactive with water.
      Alkali and alkaline earth metals are reactive with water and release hydrogen.

      Could heat affect it too? I was thinking maybe the temperature from the garage and friction of tumbling might contribute to the increase of pressure too???

    • @Castle_Games
      @Castle_Games 3 года назад +1

      Rafael Biasi this would also make since as to why the pennies reacted the way they did considering modern pennies are made of zinc coated in a thin layer of copper

    • @rafaelbiasi
      @rafaelbiasi 3 года назад

      @@SamTheBattleshipp Very unlikely. I don't think it would have enough heat to create steam.

    • @rafaelbiasi
      @rafaelbiasi 3 года назад +1

      @@SamTheBattleshipp I did some research, and the reaction of water with zinc is exothermic, maybe it will speed up the reaction. But I doubt that it can generate water vapor. Most likely it is the release of hydrogen itself.

    ive had rock tumblers. you gotta burp them everyday. just stop it real quick and release the pressure everyday. and also the temperature matters too. too hot the water steams and creates gas pressure. colder works better. best temp is around 50°f. But lower temps still work cause moving water is harder to freeze. But if the temp is too low, say low enough to freeze moving water, it will still build pressure because we all know water expands when frozen. its kinda like a frozen water bottle that has blown out because of forgetting it in the freezer too long. and one more thing, check to see the water and aggregate ratio and the volume of your tumbler to make sure you're not using too much. i hope this helps for you and that you even see this and think about it. i am a recently new subscriber and i love your videos. keep it up you're awesome and hopefully in the future i can see you attempt one of my dumb ideas. good work brother!

    I think i just came up with a semi brilliant idea @TylerTube. Using the water with the aggregate didn’t work because of excess pressure. But what if a similar effect could be produced by somehow lining the walls of your rock tumbler with sandpaper? If you could still do it in stages and go through like 4 different varying grits over the course of 4 weeks.. i think it might be able to replicate what the aggregate would do. Keep on making videos, I’ve loved the jar videos and the tumbler videos. I think part of what makes them inherently great it’s just purely item choice alone
