The first Karabakh war was in 1919, actually. Which Azerbaijan Republic destroyed half of armenian separatist army in the Shusha forests.
It wasn't exclusively Karabakh war. It was called I believe March events or something similar. Bolshevik-armenian(dashnak) joint forces with support of British (in Baku only) wrecked havoc on civilian population all around Azerbaijan, not only Karabakh and not only against Azeris, muslims but everyone including jews, kurds, and tatars.
Since Azerbaijan literally had no army (there was only loosely made militia regiment) it requested help from Ottomans per their agreement of protection, who sent Nuru Pasha and couple regiments of turkish soldiers, who first arrived in Ganja. Along the way thousands upon thousands volunteers joined this army and eventually they renamed it to Caucasus Islamic Army and it was truly huge army after the liberation of Baku. From there they split army into 2, one regiment went to the North towards Derbent - Mahachkala and other one went to Karabakh - Zangazur.

Well it didn't depict Nakchivan clash for some reason. Nakchivan although had pact with Turkey didn't receive help, because at a time Turkish government was....in short mess. Armenians attacked Nakchivan too, in westermost part and took 2-3 villages at best. Local population managed to push them back hard. Since Armenian troops were already busy slaughtering civilians in Karabakh they didn't bother spending much resources on well defended Nakhchivan.
Also Northern part of Azerbaijan near Georgia was under attack too. Total of 11 villages from Qazakh district were lost too but there as well local population managed to fend off attackers.
