I lived on the San Juan Islands for a couple of years. There was a ferry named Elwha that ran aground. So the bartenders started making a new drink called "Elwha on the Rocks" ! 😂😂😂
My family used to have a home on Orcas, on appropriately named "Elwha Rock Road."
yeah, but elwha ran aground because the ferry skipper was showing off, got too close to land and screwed up huge...
@marzsit Actually the story was he was romancing a woman at the time
@@decafmocha211 BC Ferries, Queen of the North. Similar events, except the ferry sank and 2 people died, missing presumed dead
Also the name of a song by the Island City Jazz Band!
Thanks for the live coverage! Great shots. Good to see they’re evacuating passengers back to Bremerton via the Kitsap Fast Ferries vessel Commander.
That is some Emmy Award winning photography.
It didn’t run aground “near” Bainbridge, it was “on” Bainbridge.
I would like to thank all the passengers and crew for their patience when our old klunker boats break down and wash ashore. Ain't Nobody Got Time Fer Dat!!!
Ooh, ee, Ooh ah-ah...Ting, Tang, Walla-Walla bing-bang
WOW! This channel has miraculously achieved the impossible! Making time stand still! It's STILL LIVE, although it was published long ago...
Well Done, Fast Ferry Commander !
Good thing it wasn't a "dark and stormy night"...
went onto the Pleasant Beach area, looks like? And looks like the tide went out from under her, and next high tide will be around 3am...
yeah... concerned how low the tide gets and if that will tilt the ship... surprised they are not getting the people off faster...
@@lindsayemetevents7010 it is coming up now, was low around 8pm I think, so she should be getting more support under her now - she did look pretty low-butt in this footage.
Two accidents that happened with BC Ferries , A Russian Tanker ran into a Ferry killing 2 , Another Ferry sank after running aground in Northern British Columbia,
So close, but yet so far!
AArrrrrr, Tis a Sailors Life for Me it Tis!!!
Kind of funny how everyone is wearing life jackets even though the boat is stuck in water that's only waist deep.
The bar was open.......
@@inqwit1 At least they don’t have to worry about anyone driving.
F'in OSHA rules.
WDOT requires soup sandwiches in non-life threatening situations like this . . .
Insurance companies have more power than police.
I live on Bainbridge, and I can say, this was pretty scary
so how did it run aground? it was a long way from the ferry terminal
Therapy goats were on standby.
Boat lost power somehow and drifted close enough for the low tide to stick it to the beach. Instead of risking damage they are waiting for a higher tide
how did she manage to get so far off course?
Lost all steering
@@Dumplinino
Well . . .okay.
Did she Also lose All propulsion ?
She couldn't BackDown / "Full Astern, Scotty !" ?
She doesn't have a anchor ( or two ! ) ?
@@fjb4932 Or dropped anchor!
Why? Low water levels?
Call the seafairpirayes😅😅😅
what was the white ship doing? trying to use its wake to "dig" it out?
sounds like it was taking off some of the passengers?
commander uses waterjet propulsion, anytime the engines are running the waterjets are pumping so to keep from moving forward or backward, the jets are pointed down. this creates the white bubbles that you see in the water.
@@bmolitor615 for some reason I had No sound. I could faintly hear a voice but nothing I could understand
@@MrThorp1 sorry, info from the internet, not on the actual footage - you are right, there was no commentary on the footage itself.
How can this happens with all free water?
MV Commander crew being gangstas tonight
First class seamanship.
How did it get that close to the beach?
Apparently a generator failure and loss of steering
Apparently the water goes right up to the beach 😂
@John C Im drinking a glass of water right now and im 500 feet from the shore.
@John C oh, I pee… I mean, I see what you’re saying.
Get a Yankum rope geez did the tide come in and free them ??
I'm supposed to be taking my RV on the ferries this summer. This is not reassuring.
You could prob count on one hand the number of wa state ferry accidents in 50 yrs. Minor hiccups. It's the largest ferry system in the USA. They will continue by tomorrow. Safer than driving.
Fumbling around. They know nothing.
I would hop into the water and swim to shore.
Aging fleet, no money and nobody to fix them.
problem is not enough relief boats so they can take boats out of service for maintenance. wsf used to have extra boats in eagle harbor for that purpose.
@@marzsit9833 Exactly. But, Bremerton was entitled to 1 brand new boat (which I believe was the Chimacum). It's not in service right now. We've been without 2 boat service forever. Now, no boats.
But WSF had plenty of money for unnecessary overtime. This can probably attributed to mismanagement and downright corruption.
Why do they have to zoom in on an expensive house. Are they house shopping while running a story. Stop invading that home with cameras. Who cares about them.
Another Wsdot ferry disaster, great job...
actually they haven't had a 'disaster' for quite some time now, not bad considering wsf is the largest ferry fleet in the usa.
We live in a failing country. Thanks boomers!
u just mad cuz yer influencer career hasn't taken off like the Kardashians
Boomers are retired. Stop the blame game.
