One of my favorite game moments in a game, I think our first 5e game, but might've been Pathfinder or an earlier edition involved a similar concept. We were imprisoned and forced into arena combat. Because I had been failing a bunch of stuff, I was mute, blind, deaf (gagged, blindfolded, etc.) and very exhausted. I could truly do nothing. The rest of the party were not such failures. One of my party members had no weapon. The one thing I did have. He could've simply taken it. Instead, he asked the DM if he could wield me like a flail, with the mace in my hand. I was a halfling. The DM allowed it. I think it gave it reach but also some penalty to hit. I was so happy to just participate in any way 😂
Bardic Inspirations only trigger if they're needed. Meaning if the inspired character's attack roll is too low and he would miss, Bardic Inspiration will fire and add another 1dX (X depends on the Bard's level). They can also be used in a similar manner for saving throws. Took me a while to figure that one out. Problem with "left-over" inspiration on a character when they're exploring is that it'll also trigger on a failed skill-check. So if a character has to do, say, a survival check because of a hidden chest and fails the roll, the inspiration will be used up to try and make the roll succeed. So it's probably not a great idea to simply put inspirations on everyone in your party as a morning ritual. IMO, they're best used in combat - preferably by the Bard himself. Especially in late game when everyone can get pretty insane buffs to their saving-throws - Anointed in Splendor, Heroes' Feast, etc. I usually use them for myself since I play a Sword Bard and he needs them for those awesome flourishes. Still: If I have my bonus action left over at the end of my turn and nothing more to do otherwise, I will sometimes put an inspiration on someone who could use it either for offense or defense.
My god thank you for explaining this, I knew it was only a buff for the attack roll/saving throw but it never triggered after a half hour or so of wandering around in act one... So I just used it like guidance and then respec'd into a sorcerer since it's a more damage focused class.

To hit the final boss with throwing weapons you just have to aim anywhere on the brain stem. Sadly, explosives will drop down into the void before they explode if you throw them there. Instead, you have to ignite a platform adjacent to the brain and throw them onto the fire. Fun fact despite being 3 months. In the beginning tutorial there is no party cap, you can have 4 players, laezel and shadowheart. Its the only time I believe its possible to go over the cap, likely option is the cap is just disabled because Laezel is required so it wouldnt work 4 players, and then it would be weird to save Shadowheart and then say "your party is too full" on the crashing ship about to kill them all.
I was using a throwing build vs this boss, and realised that for some reason the floor near the brain was targetable as if it was an enemy. throwing the returning trident at the floor near the brain seemed to do good damage but i'm not sure if it's because of the Trident's AoE alone or not
i was targeting the floor but that dealt damage to the brain, i dont know if this was an intended interaction and/or if it's been patched since i last fought the brain - hopefully someone can science this for us [it was in multiplayer so i dont have a save to jump to]@@biscuitsticks3274
I think you may have a misconception as to how Bardic roll is used in a combat sense. It reads that it will work on your NEXT roll. The way to save this turning combat is to turn your passive Bardic roll feature off (so that it doesn't burn the roll on whatever random check goes next) and then turn it back on before you are ready to commit to the action you wish to get buffed by the ability. The nature of the ability is intended for it to provide an unexpected boost to whatever comes along the way next, so learning to control the ability by it's fundamental nature will be difficult but it's not impossible.
I set it to ask, after several fights, I have never seen a prompt to actually use bardic inspiration for attack roll or damage. I'm pretty sure it's bugged. Turning it off and on made no difference. Edit. A reddit post says there are tiny symbols above the action bar that specify how the bardic inspiration will be used. I'll have to check that out.
@@SevenPatch Must be bugged in your game, then. It works fine in mine. Do note, though, you can only add damage if it's a College of Valour Bard's inspiration.

May I suggest an idea? In act one you get the item to resurrect that one ladies dead husband as a zombie. What if you do a run where only the dead husband may deal damage (minus whatever damage is needed to get the dead husband stick) no other zombies, just make this ladies dead husband into the true hero of the game.
While Connor is a G I don't think hes viable for the whole game as he doesnt level up, dosent scale, dosent benefit from player perks or feats (excluding the oathbreakers aura of hate) only has 22hp i mean technically anything is possible, but you can only get one of him and only one paladin can be buffing him, so it would mostly be a slog in any battle where theres more than 1 enemy also summons can't enter the portal during the final boss so if you somehow got there you'd just fail at the end by default
I used nyrulna against the netherbrain. You cant properly aim with throwing weapons. What i did was to aim at the brain by clicking at its portrait at the turn order above instead of the enemy directly

Its the only time I believe its possible to go over the cap, likely option is the cap is just disabled because Laezel is required so it wouldnt work 4 players, and then it would be weird to save Shadowheart and then say "your party is too full" on the crashing ship about to kill them all.
I like that they only realize TB throw is one of the strongest builds in the game when going into act 3, even though it comes online super early.
I was using a throwing build vs this boss, and realised that for some reason the floor near the brain was targetable as if it was an enemy. throwing the returning trident at the floor near the brain seemed to do good damage but i'm not sure if it's because of the Trident's AoE alone or not
That's interesting. Was it still letting you attack the brain itself or just the floor?
i was targeting the floor but that dealt damage to the brain, i dont know if this was an intended interaction and/or if it's been patched since i last fought the brain - hopefully someone can science this for us [it was in multiplayer so i dont have a save to jump to]@@biscuitsticks3274
Really appreciating the Gnome-puns 😂
I think you may have a misconception as to how Bardic roll is used in a combat sense. It reads that it will work on your NEXT roll. The way to save this turning combat is to turn your passive Bardic roll feature off (so that it doesn't burn the roll on whatever random check goes next) and then turn it back on before you are ready to commit to the action you wish to get buffed by the ability.
The nature of the ability is intended for it to provide an unexpected boost to whatever comes along the way next, so learning to control the ability by it's fundamental nature will be difficult but it's not impossible.
Oh damn okay, Thank you! Yeah, it was really stumping us lol
Or just set it to "Ask" in the reaction tab.
@@SevenPatch Just so we're clear, we're both referring to your "Passive" Bardic roll toggle and not the reaction system correct?
Not even David bowie could bring us so many gnome puns. Great stuff!
Fun fact! In multiplayer, if you have 3 pcs in the party you can still get shadowheart! Only time it allows a 5th party member and makes it so easy to kill the demon for an early lvl up
May I suggest an idea? In act one you get the item to resurrect that one ladies dead husband as a zombie. What if you do a run where only the dead husband may deal damage (minus whatever damage is needed to get the dead husband stick) no other zombies, just make this ladies dead husband into the true hero of the game.
While Connor is a G
I don't think hes viable for the whole game
as he doesnt level up, dosent scale, dosent benefit from player perks or feats (excluding the oathbreakers aura of hate)
only has 22hp
i mean technically anything is possible, but you can only get one of him and only one paladin can be buffing him, so it would mostly be a slog in any battle where theres more than 1 enemy
also summons can't enter the portal during the final boss
so if you somehow got there you'd just fail at the end by default
Dude. You played my alarm and i stood up quick
Im late but this is truly the throwmancer gnomancy subclass
I used nyrulna against the netherbrain. You cant properly aim with throwing weapons. What i did was to aim at the brain by clicking at its portrait at the turn order above instead of the enemy directly
OH MY GOD WHY DID WE NOT TRY THIS
Many years ago I was playing rol with some friends and I was supposed to make a rope get to the other side, and I kept failling, until I picked a gnome in the party and threw him along the rope tip xD the good thing about playing barbarian xD
6:53 It's a Saturday evening; this noise still made me think I was late for work
This was absolutely hilarious! I'm saving it so I can watch the last third after I finish act 3.
Enjoy the rest of the game!
Oh my god...I didn't even think of letting Karlach turn into a mindflayer to save her life. Now I feel even worse.
It's not really Karlach anymore though
Youre not saving her, more just giving her death a purpose
@@hag8752 just finished another playthrough and I discovered you actually CAN save her. I think it's dependent on saving Wyll's dad, but he can actually convince her to return to Avernus. You, Wyll and Karlach decide to go there as a group and rip and tear.
@@samvimes9510 yep, saved duke and didn't sacrifice karlach and she goes full slayer. GIVE ME A WISH SPELL PLEEAAAASE
@@hag8752 I was SO happy when she agreed to return to Avernus. Also made the most sense for my character since I'd become a mindflayer. I'm a potential threat to everyone, so going to Avernus is probably a good idea.
Now I just want a DLC based on that ending.
This... this is why the game is GOTY and i love playing/watching so much 🤣💀
Based
For an extra affect you could put a sussur bloom on a gnome body for a silence effect when you throw it in the under dark. Also in act three there is a body in cazadors palace that does constant necrotic damage to creatures around it, just place it in a gnomes inventory then throw it for AOE damage. Only problem is you will also take damage while carrying it 😅
"so we lit our gnome on fire"
are some of the greatest words ever spoken
I did a whole playthrough like this where I kept beldrond and used exclusively him for my whole playthrough. I remember doing 89 damage to grym boss by throwing beldron from above.
I’m surprised somebody else did a similar campaign 😂
There is gnothing more amusing than gneutralizing your egnemies with a hither-to-fore ugnkown method. Brilliantly played, but I must ask, "why gnot use g oblins"? More abundant and of the same relative size and mass and gnomes. But as Sam Kinson said, "Good answer! Good answer! I like the way you think! I'm gonna be watching you!"
In my current run my boo Karlach loves her some throwing, and will take any/all opportunity to throw or push enemies in the most extreme manner available, even if there is an objectively more effective action she could be taking instead. This has lead to some of the most hilarious experiences I've ever had in any RPG combat. There's just something about throwing a giant rat down multiple stories and into an enemy combatant, that just warms my heart.
Seriously when I thought I was going to be done with my current playthrough using a Fighter/Warlock as the dark urge my brain went “hmm what if you played a monk”
When you wanted to play as a Necromancer with a corpse catapult, but misclicked your stats to strength~
6:54 i used to have that as my ringtone (set by default on my phone not my choice) and it is so awful it brings me unimanginable rage hearing it
4:08 "and who are we to say gNOme." Missed gnomertunity there.
I heard the alarm and genuinely panicked 😅
Yeah, caught that -
“We wasted gnome time…”
6:54 triggered my fight or flight response
4:57 Dror Ragzlin actually got Bing-Bonged… 😂
Thought my alarm went off when they brought back nere's head 😂
Please make this a speedrun category
In a pathfinder game I was part of, We played an 'all full-caster' party of just gnomes... One guy spent all of his money building a flying a ship, which we christened the 'Gnome-ageddon'.
Only partially related, but all the 'Gnome' puns reminded me of it, lol
"So we held him down, surrounded him, and threw dead gnomes at him until he died."
Between this a Charisma Salami, you produce some truly eloquent phrases😂
My play through I’m playing through I’m a barbarian and my friend is a bard gnome and I have to resist the urge of throwing him every single fight. It’s actually just so tempting
6:53 Damn you... I use that ringtone, I looked at my phone and was confused.
8:33 c'mon man 😭
😭😭 I'm glad you caught that lol
you made me search for my phone damn it
"threw a flaming gnome at him" xD did not think i would hear such thing
