For the people who claim Metalcore isn’t metal.
First Wave Metalcore or “Metallic Hardcore” is a pure fusion of Hardcore Punk and Metal. FWMC would include bands like Converge, Earth Crisis, Integrity, and Starkweather.
These earlier bands were harder, heavier, and had more edge to them. At this point there wasn’t an emphasis on breakdowns and clean singing. I contend that this era of Metalcore was not only the best but is closer to what the genre should have and could have been.
Then, the Emos attacked.
Emo is a style of Punk. The scene/emo style Metalcore is after the 2000s. There was more of an emphasis on the pop aspect as well as breakdowns and more open note strumming. Bands like Attack Attack come to mind.
So, I consider Metalcore to be Metal but it really depends on whether you’re talking about Metallic Hardcore or Emo Influenced Metalcore.
Modern Metalcore bands that keep the Metallic side alive would be As I Lay Dying, Early Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage, Early All That Remains, and Bleeding Through.
Hope this helps. I’ve done a lot of reading and research and found that Metalcore and Hardcore are very interesting. Their history is expansive and spiderwebs into many different directions.

The Surrealist Old metalcore was the best but i think that early Converge was Hardcore Punk,Mathcore,Grindcore

Ehm... Architects? Maybe they don't deserve the 1st place in this list, but they deserve a spot. They definetly became genre defining band since 2014. Their sound prety much differs from all that metalcore bands usually offer.
They're not the defining band of metalcore. Don't get me wrong I really love Architects but I think Parkway Drive would fit better as the defining band of metalcore. At the end it does not really matter because I love both bands. But Architects really deserved a spot on this list

I remember when he replaced Jesse Leach and The End Of Heartache dropped. There was quite a division back then about who everyone preferred. I don’t keep up with forums and such anymore, so I don’t know if people still feel that way, but I remember a lot of strong feelings about it.

I couldn't agree more with the top 5.
BFMV, Trivium, A7X, As I Lay Dying, and Killswitch. Those 5 defined the genre more than anyone else. BFMV and Kilswitch had the melodic side, A7X and Trivium had the arena anthem metal sound, and then everyone knows of the legendary darker riffs of As I Lay Dying. Combine the sounds of all 5 of these bands and you'll hear some modern metal in there.
BFMV and A7X are steaming piles of crap. Trivium are great. KSE are awesome, but AILD are better.

I like metalcore except when it starts it's blast beat drums and excessive double time, Killswitch know when to use it and don't over do it. Trivium used it well when I listened to them. Bullet for my valentine used it great and not excessively
I agree the reason I like bullet as well is because they have a perfect mix of screams and clean singing which for me a lot of don't but that's just my opinion I know tons of people love them

@@ShiprektBones I would have to disagree, listen to August Burns Reds new album and see if you change your mind. I was lucky to see one of three shows on the Killswitch tour with ABR before everything got shutdown and while Killswitch is great, they just don't hold a candle to August Burns Red live. ABR brings so much more energy and the stage presence is unreal compared to Killswitch.
ABR got boring after like 4 albums that all sound the exact same... I actually love the bands that change. Like I love BMTH's new stuff, just cause it is different. Also it is hilarious watching people bitch on social media about bands "not sounding like their old music". Who cares lol find a new band if you are gonna whine online to nobody who cares

Shai Hulud, Converge and Zao pretty much influenced all the bands listed and for my money hold up better than most.

As i lay dying and killswitch are so good.
I think this list could be divided in 2 where you have your killswitch engages, all that remains, As I lay dying, Bullet for my valentines, trivium. Melodic Metalcore, They have more of the metal influence with the guitar riffs and solos and cleans being a big part of usually, not nearly as many breakdowns and chugs. And then your Augustus Burns Red, Architects, Fit for a king, breakdown of sanity, parkway, where it's more reliant on chugs and breakdowns still can have solos but it has more of the core influence, like what death metal and death core are to each other in a sense.

As good as Melodic Metalcore is, I'm really disappointed that there was no earlier bands like Converge, Earth Crisis or Zao

Bring Me The Horizon got me into Metal
Personally i would put Parkway Drive higher up. I love his voice, the music and the vocals. I have been listening to his music for many years and i'm still exploring and finding new songs. I listen to many of the bands here aswell, like All that remians, Bring me the horizon, August burns red, Killswitch engage, etc. I would like to also have Trivium on the list as they make very good music.
This is a great list of bands. There were one or two where I was thinking "What?", but overall this sums up the subgenre pretty well.
Still though, I would've liked I Killed the Prom Queen and Zao to make an appearance, and admittedly Suicide Silence are pretty good.
Suicide silence is deathcore.

Just listen to real metalcore, old school metalcore, and you'll see the difference between early eighteen visions, disembodied and bands like Killswitch engage and all that remains. So my opinion - your opinion is wrong. Bands which presented here are great, love lots of their songs, but they are not actually real metalcore. Swedish MDM + hardcore breakdowns + trash metal + heavy metal = these bands, which nowadays are called metalcore (again which is wrong)

They play mathcore...like converge...nothing to do with metalcore...maybe early BTBAM and TBDM were though.

Trivium as always been Trivium. Even if their music changed a lot, we hear Trivium. Not like All That Remains, that turned to something else. A7X became Metallica 2.
