I am a Farang living in Thailand and went through the same process. I also wanted to put down 50% on a Ford Ranger. The bottom line is very few banks or finance companies will give to you as they always think you will skip the country. They will give to Thais even if they have a salary of very little as they can take them to court. Didn’t fancy putting into my women’s name so didn’t get. If you have a Thai guarantee then they would but didn’t want to do that. Hope that helps anyone. Great channel…..

Thanks Jason for the great car shopping tour. I think cvt transmission were brought to market to supposedly get better fuel economy, but I also heard they wear out sooner than the normal automatic transmissions. Take your time. I'm happy the air quality here in Pattaya has improved. I think I would love to retire here. 😊

Welcome John, yes that is what was intended with the manufactures but now I honestly think it is price, a CVT would be dirt cheap to manufacture and probably even cheaper than a manual transmission yet they still charge a premium over a manual. Yes air quality is much better 👍

I have a Toyota corolla CVT and it accelerates amazingly well. Honda and Toyota are supposed to have got over most of the issues. I'm still looking forward to getting my Navara pro 4 2x. I know that the only way you can buy a car there without being price gouged is if the car is manufactured in Thailand. So, what is the most elite, highest namebrand car you can buy there, that’s manufactured there, and not subject to the extreme tariffs?
Also, are the prices of used cars so high because they are also taxing used cars at an exorbitant rate in Thailand, or is the previous owners simply passing on the high costs they paid to the new purchaser

just get the mazda 2 - if u hate cvt so much stop considering them. FYI - i bought new in late 2021 a 2022 Yaris mid-range for ~570,000 baht - for my wife - bec i wanted the full suite of air bags front and side for SAFETY. I also wanted her to learn to drive first before getting something better. You never mentioned safety, maybe not important to u but the roads are unsafe in thailand. And of course a/c is mandatory too. It has been GREAT car - i recommend it. Excellent mpg and we drive back/forth between maha sarakham and Pattaya 3-4 times per year and all around Pattaya. I dont like cvt either but it performs well enough. You can shut off the auto stat/stop - that "feature" SUCKS.

It will hold 3 people if u push it a bit ... but for around town only - 60km on a charge but u can charge with household current in ~ 2 hours. Or the SCP brand which is made in china but u can get 2 seats in front - they cost more but not hugely more. A little more refined than DT Motors - but DT is made in Thailand - abouy 100 miles from Pattaya i think
