I went home to Australia in March of this year and purchased an LDV T60 Luxe (Extender) for one of the workers in my company. Used cars are quiet expensive in Thailand so there are a lot of affordable new cars with full warranty. If you sell them with low mileage u don't lose a lot.
Thanks, they do a little but definitely not like back in Aus, here they think a 5000 baht discount is huge and generally they will just let you walk if you don’t agree to the price 😊
Jason, what are your thoughts on vans in Thailand? We retire there in February and I've been getting around in one here in Aus for a couple of years and enjoy the utility. Been thinking about whether one would work for us in Thailand or not.
If you stick to Toyota Mazda or Honda all good preferably one owner full service history 3 or 4 years old take him with you give him a commission good for you not buy a lemon
@@goodvibespattaya, that's exactly what I was thinking. Something we could potentially put our bikes in the back and other gear as well as using it as our daily driver here and there. The Toyota Ventury looks to be an upgraded Hiace with an Auto. They don't look half bad.
@@intellectualgladiata awesome, just had a look on FB marketplace, I would love one too and be great for traveling plus fine as a daily driver 👍👍👍. Got me thinking now 🤔
Spot on🙌 Japanese all day long , but would be hesitant of Nissan🤔 too soft and turbo issues. If you have deep pockets and want to make friends with the dealership buy a German car🤯.
Thanks, the G Wagon is called a Challenger in Australia and like most Mitsubishi product it’s a good car although from memory the petrol/gasoline engine was a bit thirsty, what engine is in yours?
@goodvibespattaya2423 Hey Jason,Yes they have all the roads blocked they are repaving the streets for the race, traffic nightmare right now. Big day Sunday!!
Hi Jason🥳 I know not very much about cars or utes, but I do like my Triton Athlete 4x4. I drove many utes before purchase and the Ford was the best on the highway for ride comfort. Isuzu was the best for compartments and cup holders and Nissan had the best get up and go with throaty sounds😎. The Athlete had pretty much everything rolled into 1, but very much a "work truck" interior. So all in all it came down to the price and reliability of the Triton's history. I too would rate Toyota as top in field, but Triton really is too😎
G’day, thank you so much for sharing your experience plus your experience when checking out the various brands. The Triton is good and deserves to sell better here, the Thais love their Isuzus & Toyotas that’s for sure. Really appreciate this comment, it’s good for others reading in.
I believe the Isuzus are easy to update into "racing" mods and Toyotas are just that, Toyotas! I would much prefer a much older Toyota SR 5 with up to date suspension and drive train......, but this is coming from a guy who's favorite car is a '90 Ford Bronco with a '74 Ramcharger (- window frames) a close 2nd!😎🥳🥰
I just purchased a brand new Toyota Ativ (sedan auto) in bangkok, best sellers. Bit tight in the garage with the Hilux now, but the Ativ is excellent value for money. I just can’t figure out the super high used car prices in thailand, with high klm.
One category of cars that don’t hold their value in Thailand are Euro cars. Benz and BMW do to an extent, but VW, Volvo, Peugeot, Audi drop in value like a rock once they are out of warranty. The price of used Volvo S and V 60, S80’s, tempt me but figure must be a reason for low resale value?
Unless you can prove income and all the normal expectations of finance companies or a Thai wife finance is not easy, pretty standard practices around the world when it comes to finance
That was interesting.. A lot of small and medium big cars around the same price range. I hear you wouldn`t buy a Ford Ranger in Thailand, but I have had absolutely no issues with mine (2019, automatic). It has been very reliable and great to drive. Love it, actually 😉 Btw, in Norway they say "bensin" for gasolin too 😉
Hi Sarlina, awkward…. I have seen and heard of so many very bad ownership experiences, especially in Australia where the Ranger is at times the number one selling vehicle BUT there are major problems with many owners and Ford just cannot fix the problems and these are made in Thailand, many vehicles have been bought back by Ford as they just cannot fix them plus I know some Thais that work in the Ford factory here and they say “don’t buy one” but obviously they are not all bad and there are good examples like with everything. I would be interested to know how many kms you have travelled in the Ranger since new? Being a mechanic I have my own personal views and I am only suggesting vehicles that would suit expats with zero knowledge of cars that want trouble free motoring with zero issues and based on my experience and knowledge, Toyota and Isuzu are the go. Sorry if you are offended 😩
@@goodvibespattaya Hi Jason 😊 I am not offended at all, and I have heard some have issues, so I do understand. I have 36.000 km on mine. I drive approximately 10.000 km a year. Only had regular services. What I like most, is the height above ground. That gives me good view of traffic, especially in a queue. I like that. We traded in our Toyota Fortuner for this one, because we needed the space in the back. I guess it's like that with all cars, you get attached to them after a while, and I'm really happy with mine 👍🙏😊
@@sarlina1 thank you 🙏 nothing pleases me more than hearing a positive ownership experience, this was engrained in me working for manufacturers all my life and the number one goal talking to dealers as it drives repeat purchases. Yes sitting up high in a SUV or pickup makes driving so much easier being able to see what is ahead, I’m definitely with you on that and something I miss driving Maxine!
Steering wheel locked on me as well in the middle lane of a busy 3 lane road doing 80kph in a Kia Cerato, fortunately I managed to bring it to a stop safely. Dealer said the fuel pump stopped working and starved the engine causing the car to go into shutdown mode and made the steering wheel lock. Very frightening experience.
Fuel pump would cut the engine and therefore no power steering but in Ramon’s case the steering actually locked while the engine was still running 😩. Very scary 😱
Here in the States, I just bought a new 2023 Camry Le for $26,500 plus tax and license. Under the invoice price now. I see most people like white colored vehicles in Thailand
Good choice mate and sounds like a good deal, white is the go here in this heat but most brands the white is pearl which is nice but it’s at an extra cost 👍
Mate can’t go wrong, excellent cars and I worked for Kia Australia for a number of years and as you may know they are one and the same in Korea just different styling etc. seriously a good brand and car 👍
Thanks for your fast reply. May I add another question about MG: I know these are Chinese cars, but build in Thailand. Should I expect problems with repair or spare parts? Probably will drive less than 6.000 kilometer a year. I am just wondering why there are so many offers for MG3s (or even CS) way under prices for comparable cars (Toyata/Mazda/Honda). There is an old German saying: if you buy cheap, you buy twice 😊
@@schmidtsonic some people I know have said no problem with service or repairs, there are many dealers here but they stop selling the MG3 now and only second hand but yes cheaper than Japanese brands. Personally if you can afford it, buy a Mazda or Toyota
Hi Jason, would like to draw on your experiences again (so hard to decide what to buy when you are not an expert): your opinion on Ford Ecosport? I know it‘s no longer manufactured, any known problems with repair or spare parts?
I'm driving a suziki swift and honda 300l. Small car and bigger motorbike is best for me here. I like to haul groceries in the car, haul ass on the bike! ❤
Hello jason , quite interesting about car prices there, used to have a older Honda civic here in Australia went from Brisbane to Darwin and back , never missed a beat , think I'd buy a M😂azda 2 if I was there , good in traffic , so you could pick up a nice car for around 400,000 baht , allways a interesting video, thanks Jason
Bought a Mazda 2 here (6 yr old now) and I absolutely love it. Nippy, great on the bends, parking easy, costs nothing for fuel, servicing cheap and got it at a decent price. Tested the other main sellers but I found the Mazda a way more refined drive 😍
Next year's rollout prices for 2024 MG Vibe are AU$24,990 (BHT 574,292) and the Essence AU$28,990 (BHT 666,215). So the price of that MG 5 car seems a little inflated, even allowing for its age especially given that the MG 4 is renowned as a better car overall.
Thanks mate, as mentioned in the video many of these used cars that are current models are not much cheaper than new which is crazy as there are no wait times if you buy new!

I would have a hard time finding a parking spot over there for my truck. I have a GMC Sierra long box 2 Wheel Dr. with a cover on the bed. It’s a boat! I’ve had really good luck with it. It has a 5.3 L V8. I have 260,000 miles on it. But you have to park in the back 40. Because the thing is so big. I need the extra steps anyway. I don’t know what kind of vehicle I would purchase if I lived in Thailand, I like UAW built union vehicles. I live about three hours from Detroit. It saddens me that Ford didn’t design the Ranger better! I would probably have to buy a Toyota if I lived in Thailand, even though I despise foreign vehicles, most of them are not built UAW. I’ve been a union worker my whole life, so was my dad. It’s hard to break the union mentality. I wished everybody could be union then we’d have a voice in this world instead of the man running everything. I would want some kind of a pick up truck that I could haul an Enduro motorcycle . And have a lift in the back for lifting the bike from the ground up into the bed of the truck. Not even sure if they sell those lifts over in Thailand. But I’m thinking a tundra with a lift in the back and maybe some of those fancy Pipe side rack kits around the bed of the truck. I plan on being in Thailand in late 2025. I’m planning on visiting several southeast Asian countries to make up my mind where I want to be just kind of slow travel for about six months to a year. Then return home and do the final sell everything deal. Then return to my favorite place. From the looks of things, it will probably be Thailand or the Philippines. It’s a tossup. I’ll pick Thailand just because of the food and infrastructure. Been studying and watching videos for quite some time. Now I got a general idea what I’m looking for. Hopefully I’ll find it! If not, I’ll still have my home to go back to. I’ll never sell my home. It’s in a spot where I can charge a decent amount for rent and pretty much live off the rent. My pension and Social Security will be just a benefit. Thanks for the informative videos and your mechanical knowledge! This kind of information could save someone a huge amount of money, and a whole bunch of regret buying the wrong vehicle.
Thanks mate, appreciate you sharing this and yeah your truck here would be massive compared to everything else and I’m yet to see any full size American pickup trucks here, we only got RAM & Silverados in Australia a few years ago and the Aussies love them but they are expensive there. Putting an enduro bike in the back of a pickup & traveling sounds great and very enjoyable, I hope to do more traveling in Thailand next year. Thanks again for the comment and your support, much appreciated 👍
With so many charging stations in Pattaya city now. (think its 33 and all the hotels with their) Is it any Tesla dealers there? Or maybe only in Bangkok?
Thanks mate, I don’t have a problem with Chinese manufacturing at all and their cars keep getting better and better so yes I think they can build a quality car and almost bought an MG recently 👍
@goodvibespattaya2423 ..Seriously...I worked at a Mazda and Toyota dealerships here in Australia..One thing you could never do was take a Mazda 2 out on the highway..which was a bit hard as the dealership was on the edge of town..?
From what I’m hearing in Australia don’t touch the MG. They are lined up 20 deep at most dealers in Aust awaiting warranty repairs. Typical of most Chinese’s manufactured good. Total crap.

@goodvibespattaya2423 hi Jason 👋.. yes I meant the SUV... I'm looking at moving to Thailand within the next couple of years..I would also like to see more videos done on rent to own properties or if you can find out any companies or real estates that do it.. thank you very much from a fellow Australian

Aloha, great overview! How about beaters, stuff with faded paint and such but cheap prices. Just for going A to B. does that market exist Thanks
G’day Joe, yeah good idea. I will keep an eye out for any yards like this and think I know where some are in Si Racha 👍😊
Used cars are quiet expensive in Thailand so there are a lot of affordable new cars with full warranty. If you sell them with low mileage u don't lose a lot.
Exactly, better to buy a new car as many used aren’t that much cheaper than new and as you say, full manufacture warranty 👍👍👍
Thanks mate 😊
Good video, do Thai dealers negotiate on the pricing?
Thanks, they do a little but definitely not like back in Aus, here they think a 5000 baht discount is huge and generally they will just let you walk if you don’t agree to the price 😊
@@goodvibespattaya I kind of figured that, but good to know. Thanks
@@BC19572 thanks mate 👍
Are dealer prices negotiable? How much are insurance?
They are but I can’t help you with insurance prices, too many variables
Jason, what are your thoughts on vans in Thailand? We retire there in February and I've been getting around in one here in Aus for a couple of years and enjoy the utility. Been thinking about whether one would work for us in Thailand or not.
If you stick to Toyota Mazda or Honda all good preferably one owner full service history 3 or 4 years old take him with you give him a commission good for you not buy a lemon
Do you mean like a Toyota Hiace type van that you could potentially turn into a semi camper for travel? Great, nothing wrong with that 👍
Thanks 😊
Agree 100% I worked for Nissan Aus as a BDM for a number of years, nothing more to say
Another informative video nice one Jason 👍👍👍
Thanks mate 👍
Typically are dealers open to negotiation in Thailand?
Slightly but don’t expect big discounts, they would rather not sell it, even old stockers
Hi . Great video. What do you think about mitsubishi g wagon 2003 ?thanks
Thanks, the G Wagon is called a Challenger in Australia and like most Mitsubishi product it’s a good car although from memory the petrol/gasoline engine was a bit thirsty, what engine is in yours?

Hi Jason🥳
I know not very much about cars or utes, but I do like my Triton Athlete 4x4.
I would much prefer a much older Toyota SR 5 with up to date suspension and drive train......, but this is coming from a guy who's favorite car is a '90 Ford Bronco with a '74 Ramcharger (- window frames) a close 2nd!😎🥳🥰
.......if you gave me a new Chevy and $10K I would pay you $12K to take it back🤣🤣🤣

Hi mate, sensational car to drive mate, as you know they rev to 9k and handle superb, love them. Wow good finds with such low kms 👍👍👍
The MG pickup not available yet in the UK
And in Australia it’s badged an LDV T60
All these quoted prices Do Not include the 7% vat the dealer charges on second hand cars I presume ?
G’day, all the prices on the windows include the VAT
I just purchased a brand new Toyota Ativ (sedan auto) in bangkok, best sellers. Bit tight in the garage with the Hilux now, but the Ativ is excellent value for money. I just can’t figure out the super high used car prices in thailand, with high klm.
Good choice mate, the used prices are crazy compared to new. Thanks for sharing Jay 👍
I'm from the UK and the prices are on par with UK very hard prices on second hand prices.
Personally unless I had an unlimited budget I would not buy a euro car in Thailand, love them but just not a good choice if on a budget 👍
What is the finance situation like for an American
Unless you can prove income and all the normal expectations of finance companies or a Thai wife finance is not easy, pretty standard practices around the world when it comes to finance
Have you reviewed an ThaiRung vehicles yet?
Not yet mate, I would like to and probably need to go to Rayong to find a dealer, good idea and thanks 👍

Thanks mate, appreciate your support and for saying this 👍👍👍
I have a 2019 Honda Civic and I agree. The CVT is a bit of a pain in the ass. But it does seem to work okay in my Honda.
Yeah Honda and Toyota both have the CVT’s working pretty good these days.
Thanks mate 👍
Absolutely, but those are most likely city miles which are rough in vehicles anywhere.
👍👍👍
What about an Isuzu mux or Dmax especially with the flooding
Yeah definitely, I thought I did mention the DMax, they are the number one seller 👍
That sounds like a good deal on the Camry and yes white is the color I would want in Thailand.
Good choice mate and sounds like a good deal, white is the go here in this heat but most brands the white is pearl which is nice but it’s at an extra cost 👍

Cheap well done fantastic choice here in Australia that car would be about 36 000 drive away
I can see why you love it here in Thailand

Thanks, I know someone that owns an MG3 and she said nothing has gone wrong with it at all and they are good value second hand 👍

I'd be looking for a Mazda to avoid CVT. Toyota are not as reliable as they once were
That’s my pick mate 👍
