    Hey, current white water instructor at Outside World here, came across this video on complete chance was not looking at white water stuff at all and it popped up. Very cool to see the shop full stocked and looking that way. Saddens me to say we are closing here in the near future and I’ve never gotten to see it that way but this video gave me a small glimpse of all the boats hanging everywhere and all of the gear. Thanks for that.

    I give the quality a 5.5 however one of the best instructional videos on how to roll to date you guys really hit everything so a solid 9. I also liked how you showed the common mistakes people make as if he was actually making it

    I liked the way you looked down to your a armpit at 4:11. I kept trying to look over my right should, but now I think having watched this, I was lifting my chin to clear my shoulder, which was bringing my head up. This is probably because I learned doing a sweep to the back deck..
    I think that by doing what you did at 4:11 will solidify my C to C, which is what I am trying to do now.
    Thanks for posting.

      I hope so - I'm learning now and I find if tough to coordinate the moves and remember to follow the blade and keep the head down. How long did it take you? Did you have lessons?

      chesky baba, just take a swimming goggles, if you don't want take a lessions. It will be more easier to learn byself. Googles helped me much. And it can take about 20-30 min for first roll, if you will do right steps as shown in video, just take a little bit more time for them.

    This may look easy to others but my God is it difficult. Went to a roll session myself and did about 30x. Managed 1 roll. Lol. Don't get discouraged if new like me. Just informing y'all if don't get your first session or even 3rd.

    I've been kayaking for years and can roll no problem, however this has shown me a slightly different method and really clearly too. Was Joey trying not to laugh? Great instructional video and I'm going to use the teaching method myself :)

    Hey. I find that instead of having the paddle at 90 degrees from my boat the angle of 1 o'clock helps. Boat=12 paddles=1. Look on my channel I just uploaded a video of me messing about. Just my personal technique so please do not feel as if I am saying you are teaching wrong. I just find it easier at 1 o'clock

    The term "Bomb-Proof" roll is misleading, and I think it should be avoided, particularly by kayak instructors. It creates an image of a roll that's so reliable, so fine-tuned, that it never fails. The reality is different: given sufficient "conditions", everyone will eventually swim. In this video, the kayakers are playing in a heated indoor pool, rather than paddling a good distance from shore in a rough patch of cold ocean - a transition that's resulted in many overconfident and surprised kaykers taking a swim.
    It may seem like a minor distinction, but bravado, hubris, and a macho attitude get a lot of paddlers into trouble, and we all have this unfortunate tendency to overestimate our abilities. If you think your roll is "bomb-proof", why spend any time worrying about the possibility of a swim? Why wear a PFD? Why bother dressing for the water temperature? Why learn rescues? Why practice swimming with your paddle? Why avoid paddling solo in gnarly conditions? "It's no biggie, Dude, 'cause I got a bomb-proof roll!" That's the kind of attitude that gets people into "deep trouble."

    • @myfelicidade
      @myfelicidade 6 лет назад +5

      I agree that the video shouldn't be called "bomb proof roll" since it simply shows a particular rolling tecnhique, and none of the strategies that could eventually make rolling bomb proof are shown.
      However, it IS possible to have a bomb proof roll - that is, you will succeed unless a "failure" occurs: lost/broken paddle, popped sprayskirt, stuck under a log, or that sort of things, . The point here is that having a really bomb proof roll doesn't contradict the possibility of swimming, as your comment tends to suggest.
