I do not see Jared Mayo as a "black " coach but a man that has worked himself into the position via merit and is not a race related hire. I hope his skills rise to the occasion. His skills should be his focus. I think Kraft has been wise to set this in motion through contract and design. Nothing could be funnier than Kraft/ Mayo/Superbowl.
I think they know who they want as GM. Whomever they may be, I hope they give us an complete offensive overhaul. Our defense will be good still. I do like the tempo Kraft is moving in, so hopefully soon we'll know what the staff looks like, how open kraft's checkbook will be open in free agency, and hopefully we will have a good draft. Congratulations Jerod!!
Mayo was a great choice for Head Coach. Now the Pat's should try to go out and hire Mike Vrabel as assistant Head Coach and put him in charge of all things defensive. Now Jerod can pick Mike's brain in regard to being a Head Coach. Also keep Bill O'brien an Offensive Coordinator and put him in charge of all things offensive. O'Brien can also be a resource for Head Coaching knowledge. To me with my small brain this can be the perfect world/situation for Mayo and the Pat's. Three head coaching minds to make those difficult decisions and sharing those thoughts with what hopefully is a competent General Manager. Previously all New England had was Belichick, my way or the highway.
@@tdrdronesebikesandscooters8377 ah, right. 2 appearances. Cowher won the Seahawks game. Well, 1 win is good, and we all would love Mayo to get it. Obviously, keeping him on long after that would not be ideal.
The the thing that annoys me is this narrative (repeated by Zolak) that Mayo "directed" the defense and "commanded" the defense. That simply isn't true. Steve was the DC working closely with his dad. In an interview Mayo admitted that Steve called the plays for the defense (contradicting some reports I saw claiming Mayo "shared" playcalling duties). Mayo was the linebackers coach. It's true that he directed the weekly meetings for the defense. But thats not "running" a defense. The fact is that Jerod never coordinated the defense. He never supervised other defensive coaches like a coordinator would. He has NO EXPERIENCE managing a staff or a defense. I have NEVER seen a team promote a unit coach all the way up to head coach. This is a HUGE roll of the dice for Kraft. I wish Jerod well but I fear this move is a big mistake.
Kraft said he had regrets not going with his gut and hiring Belichick after parting ways with Parcells. I think this is Kraft going with his gut so he doesn't have regrets. He had to hire Mayo.
The offense was the problem. So you made a defensive position coach the Head coach and he was the part of the team that led the Patriots to 4 and 13. Should have hired a offensive minded coach. Patriots will continue to suck with Bill 2.0 😂
That’s why I wanted them to actually interview people. Get the GM, then get the coach (if it was Mayo, cool, if it wasn’t hey maybe they wind up doing the same with BB and bringing him back after he coached elsewhere). I understand it was in his contract, but that contract was made when they also thought Belichick would be leaving after maybe at worst a couple of 9-8 seasons, or somewhere around .500, and the team would be in a better position then the #3 overall pick. The situation isn’t what they expected and so they shouldn’t continue to follow the path they expected without at least exploring other options first, imo.
I like Jerod Mayo but he's working for the new Jerry Jones. He's done before he even begins. What a set up. Kraft said he might not even hire a GM before the draft 😂 whose going to be picking the players in the draft Jonathan And Bob Kraft? If they let Mayo do it why didn't they just keep BB? 😂 Mayo is a defensive minded coach who learned from the man they just threw out 😂 . Say Hello to the new Jerry Jones no wonder BB said yep time to go 😅
Ha! One of these guys thinks the peacock playoff game will get hundreds of millions of viewers. That's hilarious. The super bowl doesn't get hundreds of millions
I believe in him - he’s run our defense for the past 5 years really. Almost every former player who talks about him says they would run through a brick wall just to get on the field for him. I think he knows what’s right from studying Bill, and what’s wrong from youth and observance.
What does it matter? We will probably be starting a rookie QB or some journeyman. GM matters more so we build up our roster and if he fails we can attract a reputable coach.
All depends who they draft at QB. Zac Taylor still only has his job because Burrow started balling immediately. He will go as the QB does. If it's a bust we'll have a new coach in 3 years.
Mayo has the personality to relate to the public and players. But does he have the skills to rebuild the offense and special teams. Also it was Steve Belichick that called the defensive plays. I’m sure he will leave with Bill.
Zos takes are always so bad and filled with homer. Thank God he isn’t the one making decisions. If it was up to him Bill would be back until he’s 75 and Mac would already have a new contract
I like the choice even if it doesn't work out because it's a reflection of the organization's, and Bob's, loyalty. It sends the right message to fans and the league. It is also aligned with the NFL's initiative to have more black head coaches.
I understand that, but the end of the video is what I agree with most. So you guys got rid of Bill Belichick, but as of right now, you’re keeping everyone else and just changing their titles? To me they’re also responsible for the season and chaos. They should have at least looked outside the organization, meet with others, and if the result was the same to make Mayo the Head Coach, cool. I hope they at least do that with GM, but even then now that you’ve officially hired Mayo, you could be creating that same vacuum of power Kraft was trying to get away from with Belichick. Now you bring in a guy, likely currently working for the organization, but he’s likely going to be seen as “below” Mayo on the pecking order rather than his partner. Ideally yes, people should be moved up internally before looking to the outside in any company. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t also check outside too and see what others are doing, how they’re thinking, what can be brought into the building to help the business improve. Especially when your last four years have been less than stellar. Not to change everything but to collaborate and see where your weak points can be improved and where you can add more depth to your strengths.
Feels like a DEI hiring from the start. Mayo has a lot to prove to earn fans trust. As it goes it will either work or not. By working I mean they win more than they lose but I expect middle of the road from here on. We're not seeing another championship any time soon.
How is it a DEI hiring? Patriots didn’t have to hire a black candidate and could’ve just had a token interview and then hire a white head coach with no qualms.
