  • Miss Thailand Universe 2019 was incredible for many reasons. Here are my top reasons why. To learn more about me, visit www.daniwalkerofficial.com.

This was the first time I watched Miss Thailand Universe and I was not disappointed, in fact, I was so impressed and think that other national pageants can take a few cues from Miss Thailand Universe.
To no one's surprise, fan favorite, Jennifer Paweensuda “Fahsai” Drouin, was crowned as Miss Thailand Universe. In 2017 she held the title of Miss Thailand Earth. I have no doubt that her experience, and growth, since that title, are serving her well and contributed to her crowning.
In this video, I'm breaking down the best moments from the show, things I think that other pageant contestants can learn from for their next competition for swim, gown, and on-stage question.
**Miss Universe Thailand 2019 says that her heart is Thai, despite her Western-looking face. Jennifer Paweensuda “Fahsai” Drouin, 25, was crowned Miss Universe Thailand 2019 on Saturday night over 56 other contestants - fulfilling the half-Canadian beauty’s goal after at least six years on the pageant circuit. “I’ve been in so many pageants, but my dream has always been Miss Universe Thailand,” Paweensuda said in an interview with Khaosod. When asked about potential backlash from winning the coveted crown with a Western-looking face, Fahsai said she’s Thai on the inside. “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I know I’m Thai…What makes us Thai people is that we are open and we accept different people from different backgrounds,” she said. “I speak Thai. My heart is Thai. I know that I can be Thailand’s representative on the world stage and make everyone proud.”** www.khaosodengl...

She was born in Thailand and moved to Canada at around the age of 8 and stayed there until she finished her bachelor degree. She did mention that she came back for holiday in Thailand every 2 years also during those years and she spoke Thai with her mom at home not to mention she was addicted to Thai tv shows!

쉬쿠시 -You are so ignorant she did not copied Catriona in anyway. She did not do the mojo turning or the Lava walk or did she wore the red volcanic gown. She been in pageantry and has her own style but much improved due to the thai team helping her with fashions and walks etc...She started a “program able” working with the disabled for awhile now and now she want to expand her program also aiming in helping others in need “ We are one “ and expansion that is getting many supports from rich thai’s and philanthropist You and people like you aiming to discredit and sabotage her so your queen can shine...!!! Low down dirty tactics... the world is not stupid we know what some of you are trying to do....

    • @alisa1741

쉬쿠시 -Desperately trying hard so Gazini can win by sabotage Miss thailand is pinoys dirty tactics. We know Gazini had nose job and filler lips but we are not low down dirty garbage to try to sabotage her, because we have class and don’t believe in exposing others so that they can fall....Both women worked hard to get to this point, they will get a chance to prove themselves in MU.... no need to keep putting Miss thailand down due to your own insecurities..!! Some pinoys are so easily threatened and will caused drama and controversy so they can win every year. Why can you people be normal and support all candidates of the world. Why do you guys feel you have to win all the time...? It’s should be about the best candidate not the country of origin they came from. The crown should go to the most deserving only...!!

As I am Thai here are my thoughts. No. 19 Winner, she is current a radio DJ, and he moved to Canada at the age of 8 then stayed until 23. She was a runner up at Miss Thailand in 2013, then 2nd Runner up in Miss Universe Thailand 2017, completed in Miss Earth. She seems to struggled a bit when she answered question in Thai, I guess she felt more articulate to answer in Thai language. Everyone supported her because she was a lighter and should have won in previous pageants. She has transformed her body as well as improve a lot on stage present, especially on her walk. No. 31 she lived in Thailand through out she had a rough childhood as she came from poor family.
Basically, it is very nice if the competitors can speak perfect English as No. 19, it does not matter which language she responds it is more about how the contestants delivered the answer.
With the new pageant organiser, they encouraged former contestant to complete again.
No. 9 was 2014 Miss Intercontinental Winner. I believe, she will complete again and could win the title as she is perfect contestant, only problem is the English language that can speak in daily life, but still need to improve. I am sure she will be able to do it.

As a Thai fan, answering in English is not required, it's rather optional. But to audiences and judges, i guess that is the way to show how ready she could make it at international level - it isn't always a plus though, as there were cases contestants were stuggling with the answer in English before. So, to me, it is interesting and impressive if the contestant could answer wonderfully in English as well as the understanding in Thai.
Ms. Paweensuda knocked the answer off the park, it was straight to point, passionate and sincere; wish her the best at Miss Universe 2019 pageant.
Love love your vdo! With love from Thai fan. :)

Nov Dusday she did actually address this I think on Instagram. But since she had already placed 2nd RU 2017. And competed locally since 2013 she wanted to answer her question differently and surprise the judges. The interviews and PR already showcases her Thai and likely since Miss U is in English she wanted to give them an idea how she’d answer

Thank you so much for recapping Miss Universe Thailand.
With the crown question number 3 answered: Thank you for the question...(dead air)..... I have a first hand experience with this because my mom is a single mom and raised me...(dead air)....my parents divorced.. (dead air)..... they tried to be together for both of their kids. So, I think.....[time is up].
With your question about Miss Universe Thailand answered the question in English, I think it’s a smart idea to show the judges their English skill and save the crown in case their English is stronger than Thai. Answering in English will help them save the time as well. Nowadays it’s time to open the door for English to Thai people. Thai people, we, are stereotyped as poor English skills people for a long time. So a lot of Thai millennials really look forward to having a mixed or full Thai beauty queen who is brainy and professional in using English.
Thank you again for you time. I am so sorry that Google translation was not that great.
Please keep supporting Miss Universe Thailand 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

She's half Canadian/Thai. What I like about her is she can speak both Thai and English fluently without the odd accent - compared to Maria (Miss Universe Thailand 2017 - also half) who has a tiny pitch of accent in both English and Thai.
To your question about being Thai answering the question in English, my personal take is it depends. In this situation, I don't think she was uncomfortable with answering in Thai, but perhaps to help Catriona understand better. It would've been frowned upon if English wasn't her first language and Catriona wasn't there, but she went out of her way to speak English.

I love Thailand and I speak also Thai. I went to Thailand to watch this pageant this year. The should was the best show I have ever seen. They did a great job. I could speak with Fahsai and also with other girls there that are my thai friends now (number 9, 15, 25, 47, 39, 48, 35 and 53) She was born and start growning up in Thailand and and then at the age of 8 she moved to Canada. She speaks Thai with her mom and with the Family of her mum and also used to watch Lakorn thai (Thai series in Thai). Thai is her first language but she is purely bilingual. Actually, I dont unterstand why she anwered those question in English. She also speaks thai as a native
Catriona does not speak thai. she speaks also English and Tagalog. Since I was there, Catriona had an interpreter during the Q and A

Hi Dani Walker! I would like to answer you for the question ‘How do people in Thailand feel about the contestants who answer their Thai question with English answer?’
***For your information - The 2 former Miss Universe from Thailand speak English***
To be honest, we did not place high in Miss Universe for more than 20 years! And when we were placed higher and higher, closer and closer to the Crown we dare to dream to have Miss Universe from our country again (dare to dream in a respectful way). In every year since 2015, we have learned that to get the crown we have to improve on A, B, C and blah blah blah qualifications. One of those qualification is the ‘ability to deliver the answer’. And ‘Paweensuda’ has this ability and we can see that she is more comfortable delivering her answer in English and since Thais speak more and more English especially in the pageant communities so we do not have objections for Paweensuda answers in English. We see it is also one of her strength for the competition as well cause MUs nowadays are also spokespersons for the organization and charities.
From my point of view, I do not mind whether contestant will speak English or Central Thai actually I want to encourage them to speak more and more local language bc Thais are one of the most diverse people in the world also.
Love you Dani ❤️ Thank you for your fantastic video and good content. 🥰

I believe that Fahsai answered her questions in English because there were some Non-Thai judges like Catriona too...
So answering in English could give her some extra benefits. Also, everything will be easy for MUT if she can speak English well...
To picture that, if you can't speak English, how would you survive with other girls during MU camp.....

This is a very great recap I love that you do the little research for all of this, keep up the great work!. Sending love from Thailand.
For the question and answer of Top 5 Finalists. Number 3 was on point, I mean the google is right lol. For Number 9 she said Thailand is progressive in term of equality, But I personally think it's a little contrast because she ended her answer with 'I want to promote the same sex marriage to happen' . Yes, it's not happen yet in Thailand so it's not completely equal yet for me. But overall she did very great.
Love that you questioned about answer in English instead of Thai. I think audiences fine with that. Even though the girls are Thai but some of them do not speak Thai in their life often I mean they can understand Thai clearly but sometime it's hard for them to speak what they think right ahead. So they feel comtfortable with speaking English and audiences understand that.

    • @TheDMKN
      @TheDMKN 5 лет назад

That was happen before in Thailand lol. I mean our second Miss Universe Bui Pornthip . She is Thai but grew up in USA so she can speak Thai but it quite slow. Somehow in that time some of Thai people take that very serious because they think that Miss Universe Thailand have to represent Thai including langauage. But yes she won and proved that as she spoke english very fluently and she acted naturally Thai the way she wai(greeting in Thailand) and her personality. Till this time P'Bui cannot speak Thai that fluently but she always represent our culture beautifully.

Another Great info recap Dani !! (amazing _with your google translate helps a lot too!..) this is very informative for our point of view with a pageant around the world .. lots of gorgeous girls competing with a top notch production.. Thailand is a major player now it seems for sure !! I agree ,you should have had an airline sponsor & music video for 2108 USA !! Video concept much like this year in Reno for swim /dance segment opening concept..or. out at Tahoe. as an idea... would be Financially better for you and many of your sister queens for the long trip to Nationals ...No long road trip for you to Shreveport but I think that added to your pre/USA vlogs on your journey getting there(a "good part of the documentary.. "..)

Back in 2013, Miss Universe held in Moscow, Russian popstar Emin shot an official music video (In Another Life) with selected Miss Universe contestants like Ukraine, Japan, Philippines, Puerto Rico, USA to name a few, with their sashes on. Miss Thailand 2019 has one of the best productions in any national pageants, its a big deal in Thailand! The winner is a front runner in this year's Miss Universe. 12:45 actually... as a half thai, who lived in Thailand ever since i was born. I have to say.. answering in Thai or in English does not matter, as of Thai people in General. A lot of country likes making fun of Thailand for not being able to speak english. And when it comes to getting bullied. Thai people tend to want the girls to speak English more, so that we would not get judged by people during the competition.

Just a guess on the crowning part: It's probably because the franchise of Miss Universe in Thailand has changed hands.
It has been a custom that when a different organization takes over a national pageant, they invite the international pageant holder to come crown the new winner. The change of franchisee is also marked by a new crown.
This happened in Miss World Philippines 2011, when the national title was separated from Binibining Pilipinas and given to another licensee. The first MWP was crowned by the reigning Miss World and the previous titleholder was not involved in any way.
This was also the case in Miss Universe Thailand, although Sophida had become so popular that she had to appear in the new MUT coronation night.

Many Thai’s now do understand english, they just preferred to speak their own language. you can hear the audience responses to Fahsai answers, and the other contestant answers. I’m sure new management of mut want these girls to be themselves and do whatever they preferred. Speaking English is acceptable. Also it’s not odd to find some Thai’s can speak 3-5 or more languages depending on their heritage..!! Many are mixed so it’s not unusual for them to know many languages..!!

    • @DaniWalker
      @DaniWalker  5 лет назад +1

Thank you so much for sharing that. I did notice the audience responses. At Miss Puerto Rico the crowd booed when Madison asked for the question to be restated because Spanish is her second language. There was a big backlash, which made me curious about Thai people's response.

Hi.. Thanks for review.. The music video was the theme song for the MUT pageant performed by a renowned Thai artist.. So it was natural to feature the contestants. The winner is half Canadian and spent her life in both Thailand and Canada so she is fully bilingual and was also second runner up in Miss Universe Thailand 2017. The performance was a bit of a shame but the singer is really a top vocalist, she is the voice of the Thai ver Elsa in Frozen and Nala in The Lion King. She's usually very good but there were some technical sound errors that made her sound worse, unfortunately.. During Q&A No 3 totally messed up on both questions. On the issue of asking in Thai and answering in English some contestants that grew up abroad are not so fluent in Thai so it's completely fine for them to answer in English because English skills are essential to compete at international levels anyways..
