I just played around with this a little but it looks useful. LeftSemi will return fewer rows than an Inner Join if the second table has duplicates. If A has three rows of "Apple", "Banana" & "Orange" and B is "Apple", "Orange", "Orange" the LeftSemi will return only two rows of "Apple" & "Orange" plus the column of nulls. Useful if we want to reduce a table of orders down to those with item lines in a second table where that second table may have duplicate OrderID.
Great! Didnt think about duplicates! :)
I recently discovered their usage within Azure Data Explorer and Kusto and indeed removing duplicates are my main use case.
Mmm, I do' not see the advantage yet, if you do not work with large datasets. In PQ you "only" see the first 1000 rows, and an advantage of the regular joins is that you can have a look if the join was done correct. If you want to clear the dataset with double records you can also to this first. But thanks for the video Ruth: you are a frontrunner!!
hmmm .. new joins.. nice .. now next task is to look for use cases ... 🤔🤔🤔
As always .. easy explanation @Ruth .. good one 😀😀👍
What about non-equi join ? When will this be available in PQ ?
I dont know :(
Nice one - thank you
Where can I get that joins sheet?
Ooh, looks useful, must admit, I don't know about others but I've always found the syntax for joins hard to remember.
I have the mouse matt as a cheat sheet! Never fails me ;)
Will they be available in dataflows?
They didnt say! Lets hope ! :)
Dope!
Well what is the problem is the tell me what is the matter is the 😂
