U the man Rodney, love it when u upload, and also thank you for your service.
Thanks np , appreciate the comment like always ! Not in the military , I do help them get them better again : D
I enjoy your videos and your attitude. I am a catch and lrelease guy too unless I am specifically looking for one specific fish to cook that day when I go home. I used to catch Sculpin back in the early 1970's next to the bridge pilings near vacation village.
Nice sculpin Rodney! Can't wait to catch a keeper on my next trip to SD. I hear they are good eating.
oh yeah great eating! Good luck out there !
Great video Rodney.
thanks man!
It has been 12 years since I rented a skiff from MCRD. Good to see they upgraded them with actual consoles. My favorite spotty area is the eel grass right in front of Shelter Island between the boat ramp and the pier. Good job on those sculpin.
Thanks Rod! I love that place too ! Great spot to catch some quantity and quality spotties : D
great video! I love fishing sculpin!
There ya go again,Rodney. Driving the boat down memory launch, again. I really appreciate the video's you do. It's the simple things, bruddah, dat makes err'ting'"Mo' Bettah', Mo' Offen".
You just go,no need production crew. Eh,brah, get anyplaces for rent a whaler to fish the bay, down there? I get family down there too, maybe me and my cuz can holo holo for a day? I think my Aunty too Hauol'e-fide now for cook though. She Old now, but man that lady can cook, so ono.
Sorry bruddah, getting carried away. Anywho, mahalo again for making these soul touching vidz. La'wai'a No Ho'e
ay! thanks for the positive vibes man! make these videos for fun. So when my future kids get older, they can see that "dad" had some fishing game back in the day :D
Keep the faith, brah. Life gets in the way a lot as we get older. I'm a born and raised Hawaiian, fishing was my life. Now, I can't even get away without thinking about work...sad nooz, lol. I got you though, I'll fish vicariously through you. Until the day I can relive those times and make new memories.
Yes your kids will know Dad's cool. The vidz will be a bonus. Work hard, play harder...and never go hungry. Win Win!
love catch and release I love to see species like a sculpin multiply like it was in the good old days
Same here ! Sculpin such a beautiful fish
Back in the 70s we'd catch a lot of nice size sculpin...very good eating fish....
Dude, love your videos. I need to venture out from Mission Bay
haha Mission Bay is way good too! but exploring new spots are always a must for fishing
Nice catch Rodney!!!
Thanks ! Was totally stoked landing it
I don't fish the bay but I did enjoy this video! Espiecally because my first fish i caught was a sculpin 13 years ago. At that time i was not aware that they pack a punch. lol
Thanks !glad you enjoyed ! Yeah Sculpin definitely pack a punch ! They are a beautiful species
BAHAHAHAHA "Make some Beer!"
Ballast Point loves you!
Love your videos G!
Thanks man , appreciate it
Question Bro...What video editor did you use for this one? Thanks!
Hey you may already know this, but I took a charter not too long ago and the local deck hands wouldn't allow anyone to keep a sculpin, because they are out of season. Might want to look into it, you wouldn't want to get fined! P.S. Beautiful catches! Well done! 😀
Thanks! Yeah I let them go. Beautiful species :D
sculpin are my favorite fish to eat.
Greatness at it again.
:D Thanks. I am not great just lucky and blessed
awesome video!!! just a FYI sculpin season is closed Sept. 1 - Jan 1 catch and release only
Good one champ! Fish On.
Thanks buddy ! Good luck out there !
Great video! My son and I went out of there thanksgiving weekend, and tried to duplicate your day. Didnt get a bite. And we worked it good! Does the bite die down after october?
Nice! Yeah the water is changing temperature. So the spotties will be in different spots this time of the year. most in the middle of the channel. I like using slower presentations of the drop shot and orange red colors
glad to see you releasing those sculpin to keep the population healthy! also I'm pretty sure they closed the season for them for them already!
baypounder theyre also not in season right now.
@baypounder, Thanks ! Yeah I love catching and releasing these guys regardless if they are in season or not : D
Wow! It’s been 5 years. What are the requirements to rent one of these boats? License needed, class? I’m retired military, so I’m able to get on base. Originally from Chula Vista.
Thanks for your service. Yes you need to take a boating class for safety. Once that is completed, you can rent from there any time you want :)
Where is the water near MCRD? Went to boot camp there 10 January 2005, I don't remember any water being near there, but I remember it being right next to the airport
Can the general public get access to those skiffs? Of just military personnel?
Ryan Waggener just military
wow, these are a rough fish in Alaska, no limit. we catch them upwards of 24 inches.
I didnt know they had these in Alaska!
Hey Rodney! How much are those skiff rentals? A navy buddy might bring me along to rent one with him
One more question, you think the 5 inch zoom bait will work? i already have some of those that i can use, or is that too long??
They work very well too! I like using them as well to catch the "bigger" species
do you ever go fishing with those guys from the portland video? Mike and Dave? they're awesome
I wish ! I'll ask them , might have to make a hawaiian fishing video :D
Make some beer 😂🤙🤙🎣🎣
Nice Video!
Thanks!
thats dope man, they're fun to catch. where exactly can yoy rent the boats? im military and want to go check it out. thanks
It's located in San Diego Bay near liberty station. It's a military base called MCRD. The marina where you can rent from is called Bayview boat house
boy you love that versatile drop shot white ice fluke don't you
i like it too btw , no hate man. Thanks for showcasing its versatility
Haha yes I do ! Always have luck catching halibut with them : D
"they're not poisonous" yes they are!
Yeah they are, I misspoke on that part :/
michaelnazerian No poisonous, but venomous! Poison- You bite it, you die. Venom- It bites or stings you, you die.
Very painful sting of the barbs. I know. Got stuck on 3/4 day boat out of Oceanside and it hurt for hours. I heals very slowly too.
They are venomous, not poisonous.............
You’re just the *smartest* little thing, aren’t you.
Where was this spot at. Would like to kayak there
What kind of job do you have with the navy?
Good fishing mate! Also I just realized you are a lefty haha
I like utilizing both types , left and right handed reels : D
Rodney Marquez I tried right hand and it was a definite no go hahaha
:D practice practice practice !
sculpin are poisonous. just to let you know, but great job out there nothing beats fishing. great job:)
Brother, was than offset hook and if so, what size? Thanks
How much line are leaving between the weight and the hook on the drop shot?
I like leaving 5 to 8 inches in between
Rodney Marquez cool thanks for the response
You ever need someone to roll out with get at me. I am always out that way.

Thanks! Had fun editing it

Poisonous but also delicious 😋
Pancho Pachangas They aren’t poisonous, but they are venomous
Venomous
It’s venomous not poisonous
Hey Rodney, can anyone rent from MCRD? Or only military personnel?
Please let me know.
Thanks
Active duty , retired military, DOD employees , and dependents. Unfortunately not open to the public.
Do I need gear this heavy?
Na you can go with ultralight gear too . I like this "heavier" setup just in case I hook up on a nice sized halibut or white sea bass
Only caught one sculpin ever 😭😭
what is your job in the navy Rodney? SEAL team 6 member I highly doubt
Help active duty get back on their feet :D
They use the swim bladder to make the IPA
:D
Noice!
0:35 I'll be your friend Rodney haha
Hey. I'll fish with you!
how much $$ to rent?
I believe it is $89 for the whole day. Very pricey, however a good quality skiffs to rent. Civilian sector they have cheaper skiffs that run from $50- 65 a whole day (much slower however)
The bay is your bae lol
hahaha :D
can anybody rent those or do you have to have like marine ID
Luke Lawhorn you need miltary or Department of defense access card / privileges to rent from here
You gotta be careful with those they are actually venomous
nice tip! I will be careful :)
BTW sculpin are very poisonous, just not lethal
Oh good catch ! Thanks
sebastian lanswick deadly if allergic.
sebastian lanswick venomous actually
They aren’t poisonous.........
lol we throw those damn things back or use them for crab bait
that is one ugly fish! but I'll like to catch those all day!:) nice fishing Rodney
Its beautifully ugly :D Thanks Reyes
I thought they were poisonous
They are, I spoke incorrectly
I heard there barbs are toxic
