    Maybe it's called drawing paper or smooth card stock? Also for blending in colored pencils you can use the following after you have about minimum of 5-6 layers down on the paper - Vaseline, baby oil, handsanitiser w/o perfume, vodka and my favourite surgical alcohol or iso propyl alcohol (the stuff that doctors and nurses use to clean your skin before giving you a shot). There are blender pens sold by the colored pencil manufacturers as well. Also the product that is made for this is called "Odorless Mineral Spirits or OMS' and there are brands like Gamsol, Mona Lisa and Zest It pencil blend. Less is more- really if you use too much it's just going to stain the paper.. Use a harder brush like a synthetic filbert or cotton buds in circular motion with very little product on there. You can layer right on top with many layers after your blending product is bone dry. The advantage of this is that unlike a blending pencil the tooth of the paper is in tact and not flattened and you can continue to layer many more times right on top.

    for blending with white, if you use a cheap brand like crayolla it won't whiten like brands with more white pigment.
    alternatively you can also use a pale colour like pale shades of grey, yellow, blue, etc. to deliberately shift the hue.
    i find that blending with white alone doesn't fill in all the white specks, but if you flatten the paper enough with the white, you can then add one final pigment layer that fills in the remaining holes.
    another trick, in primary school the teacher showed us how you can blend by rubbing a small piece of paper against your artwork. it blends well, but a drawback is that i don't have as much control when it comes to sharp edges and fine details. you could end up smudging them away.
    another technique is to do your base layer with watercolour pencil and activate it with just enough water to fill in the gaps. obviously not too much water because cartridge paper will crinkle and warp. a drawback is you have to wait until it's thoroughly dry before adding more layers.

    I have a fabulous husband (3rd marriage for both of us), he is very supportive of my art & crafts, no need to hide anything. But we have enough food and shelter, no credit card debt. I have a wonderful large prismacolor set. Colored pencil is a marvelous medium, with enough layers, rich colors can be achieved. The embossing pen is superb. I must try the blender. Great tip for lifting some colored pencils. Have also spent hours doing backgrounds with several layers of tiny circles of the pencils. I also love your nails.

    Thanks Michele. We call paper for dry media by the technique it's made for. ie sketch paper, pastel paper, mixed media paper etc. Love that embossing for leaving white and lifting with sticky paper. I do not have the patience to layer for hours so I like to blend with gamsol. Definitely advantages to being one's own mistress. 😉👍💜

    I'm glad you used some eyeshadow! I have a ton of makeup products, especially dry palettes of eyeshadows that I suspect will end up on paper much more often than my face. I've also got "cheapo" brushes that I'd bought for applying makeup and never used. I wonder if you might ever be interested in how to repurpose makeup products. Meanwhile - I love your sense of humor, and your sensible and compassionate teaching approach for beginners. Your tutorial is wonderful. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughtful ideas. I like the blending tool tip and eye shadow tip for shimmer. We have dollar stores in the US that sell mica-based eye-shadows that might be very good for this technique.
    One of my art teachers suggested this additional tip which might be useful for backgrounds: He recommended using colored papers, and the brand we used for class is called Mi-Teintes drawing paper. It was really fun to use a darker background with lighter colored pencils -- almost like a reverse painting. Thanks again! You are terrific.

      @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber  Год назад +1

      There's really not much need except for oils, though varnishes with UV filters can be used for acrylics. Watercolour is rarely varnished being framed under glass and most exhibitions would prefer it untouched. At the end of the day if you are interested Google some product reviews and have a play. I never varnish. Unframed watercolour can be wax coated.

    Since watching several of your videos about colored pencils, I now have several different kinds with which to experiment.
    I bought some Derwent, Windsor & Newton, and Prismacolor colored pencils. So far I’ve only used the Prismacolor ones. However, I’m about to start a larger floral picture. My question is: Should I stick to one brand for each project or can they all be “mixed” with good effect on a single picture? Are they compatible with each other in a single project ?

    • @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber
      @IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber  3 года назад +1

      Although some pencils are oil based and some wax based they can often be combined. The advice as for most mediums is that if you are unsure, try them out on a scrap of paper first.

    What could be the reason my color pencils do not coat one over the other? I mean I'm trying to draw a dark line over a light color and it seems to slip and don't paint anything. What should be the base for good colored pencils to work on layers? Pastel, oil based, watercolor pencils could do the same work? I'm all confused 😕😩

      It can be hard to layer colored pencils, sometimes it's best to do those dark pieces as they are without layering too much. There comes a point where the paper won't accept any more pigment.

      @@lindam.6782 I know that it's coloured in the USA and I'm sure that Americans know that in the UK, as well as Canada and Australia, it is coloured as Americans are very intelligent. It's just a passion of mine to preserve the use of the English language, especially if you are a UK resident. Sorry if this comes over as pedantic.

    Do you think the blending tool would be of any benefit with watercolor pencils?

      I think it would likely flatten the paper, but you can try anything on a scrap of paper, nothing to lose!
