Both the Pilot Custom Heritage SE and Sailor Amaoto Harusame Pro Gear Slim are 30,000 yen in Japan (a little less than $300 USD). EDIT TO ADD: Pilot has just come out with the Capless made of the same material.
I have the pilot concord M200 ( am i correct to say that?). Do you like/dislike, not sure what your take on that was! I like mine very much. Your description is brilliant. Thank you!! I am drooling.

Please, please, puh-lease, keep letting your craft do its softening and much-needed massaging as it resonates to our beloved hobbyist, fans/friends of fountain pens, and (of course) beyond.
That’s a really nice pen and thanks for the really interesting review...my Custom 74 was my first “step up” FP and I still remember that “next level” moment when trying it. Its a pity my clear cap now has micro-cracks from previous posting. Glad to hear Pilot are doing something about that. Thanks again for your splendid review.
Ugh! That is such a bummer about your cap. I don't post my pens but I've heard that is more of a problem on demonstrators. I remember my first gold nib was a Waterman and it was so exciting. Funny how something so small can bring so much joy! Thank you!
Love love love your videos!!!! I have been a huge fan since I stumbled across your first ones of TIPS! Thank you so much and keep it up! While I don't think Ill be getting a Custom Heritage SE, I have an emperor, and an 823 and adore Pilot's nibs! Thank you so much for your wonderful (and relaxing) videos!
What a lovely review, and such an interesting colour pen. One of the things I so love about your channel is all the wonderful stationary and related items you show, they all look so cool and different (in a good way). Thanks once again for the great review
what a lovely review! I always enjoy your videos. I am glad that Pilot is doing this - but i'm not going to lie, that Harusame is really tempting me! Pilot - more colors please!
Welcome! It really is a great community. Maybe because there are so few fountain pen users (in the grand scheme of things) that we intuitively know we need to stick together! Plus, you have to talk to others about your pens!!
We are finally getting this in the states and I'm considering it. I got a sneak peek at the D.C. Pen show and it is beautiful in person. I was very glad to find your video! Thanks for the review.
This is really interesting. I'm a Pilot fan, but had resigned myself to having them occupy the "classic" end of the spectrum. I'm just fascinated with what the "big three" are up to and will be eager to see where Pilot goes next. The shark bit with the Myu gave me quite the chuckle.
hahaha! I love the Myu! I'm so curious about the big three too. Especially Pilot as they have so many other pens (ball point etc) and I grew up using them. Thank you!
I really is a pretty pen and the orange one is wild! Make sure you enjoy the size 5 nib. I do, but some think it's too small. I typically don't enjoy orange too much, but I was so tempted hahaha!
Really stunning pen! Not sure however that I would be willing to pay that much for it. That notebook is totally STUNNING. Wow that fabric is just blowing me away. So envious of you being able to go to shows like that! This being said I would probably end up having a huge wish list so it's probably better that I don't go to them 😂
Wow! I also thought the product images put out by Pilot weren't that interesting, but then saw how it sparkled in the light. I'd love to see them in person one day.
I am loving all of your videos. You are so informative and your voice is very calming. Thank you so much. Have you ever done a review of the Pilot Custom 823? I'm coveting it but haven't pulled the trigger just yet.....TY, Julie
I'm so glad you like them. I don't currently own an 823. That may change though. Lately I've been chasing nibs (with unusual imprints) and I haven't recovered from that yet hahaha! Thank you!
I just ordered one - my first pen purchase in a year and a half! Really excited to have a new toy to play with - it's been too long!! Also - I thought I knew all the pen reviewers - this was a superb review and I' subscribed!
@@InkyRocks I love black pens (In fact I ordered the black Custom Heritage SE!) - and I agree - Pilot makes some of the most consistent and smooth writing nibs in the business. Not flashy but they're super functional. Cheers!
Thank you for your, as always great, review. I must say, I like the fountain pen. Subtle at first glance, but with the swirly blue yet something very special.
Thanks so much! I'm enjoying the pen and still love it. I just wish it wasn't at this price point. But I'm willing to sell other pens to keep it hahaha!
Thank you Inky.Rocks for the wonderful debut of the sparkly CH SE. The subtle quiet aesthetic of the sparkly shows better on your video than photos. And if the nib sections were swappable with the C74, the deal would be even sweeter with EF or B. I had to watch your review again after the heat at Tokyo Inklings: diss the new pen and not it even a thanks to the "special guest" at the end?! Glad you had strong pen jutsu defense and it didn't escalate to the Budokan ;-P No one messes with Inky.Rocks!
This has to be the most beautiful pilot pen I have seen. Penbbs has a galaxy acrylic color that I like and this is similar. I certainly hope it makes it to the states. Thank you for a wonderful review. Richard
Thank you so much Richard! I've heard several people talk about the galaxy acrylic but I haven't seen one in real life. I need to check it out. I'm really enjoying the pen but I wish it wasn't so expensive. We will have to see where Pilot goes from here!
Great review, I'd love to get my hands on one of those. The journals were very nice as well. It is a shame you weren't able to get your hands on the Pilot colab pen, It is simple yet elegant.
Thank you! I would imagine the SE will eventually show up outside of Japan as it is supposed to be in their normal line up. I enjoy things that are hand made and it was nice talking to the lady that made them!
Great review and the pens look fabulous. I think the green is my favourite. But price wise I think I will have to just keep saving up for a Falcon instead 😜. Have a great weekend and stay safe.
Thank you! That would definitely be the better choice. Ultimately, you use a pen to write with and if you don't have a Falcon nib already, that would be a better pen to save up for. I have a Falcon, but haven't used it lately because so many people are making interesting flex nibs now and I'm using them. I hear you can get the Falcon "softened" and I may try that. Take care!
I am glad that I bought several Japanese pens of this caliber quite a few years ago, when the prices were reasonable. To my way of thinking, the prices of the last few years are excessive. I suppose they will charge "all the market will bear", but I look forward to the day when the market tanks a bit, and prices moderate. Many will disagree with my opinion, but there you have it. Thank you for the scholarly and sophisticated review.
Thank you! I don't hope for a slight tanking of the market. Mainly because all fountain pen companies, even the seemingly big ones, in the broader scope of markets, are small companies. A couple are in some trouble, especially with the pandemic. But I hear what you are saying. Prices have been going up, but I don't know if it's greed, it may be survival (charging more for one pen to make up for losses in other pens etc.) I don't know if prices will moderate, instead, there will be more pens that work fine but are not from the "name brand" companies. Witness the explosion of Chinese pens. I think more people may gravitate toward companies like PenBBS. Where you are wrong is that many people DO agree with your opinion hahaha! This pen and the Harusame are both eye-watering in their prices and have me rethinking some of my purchases/collecting. Treasure those Japanese pens you have! Thanks so much for your comment.
@@InkyRocks Yes, there is a drift toward Chinese pens, and I have quite a few that cost very little. They write reliably but the nibs are all nails. The Chinese need to up their game on nib performance. Right now, the Japanese are way ahead in that feature, IMO.
Thank you for being so frank on the marketing aspect. The first thing I wrote on FPN about this pen was 'Perhaps Pilot has finally decided to cash in on the money wagon like Sailor and Platinum by adopting the philosophy "Let's make the exact same pen in a different material and charge more for it" and "Let's make a bunch of variants of the exact same pen with different materials and see if we can get people to collect all the different colors." ' I have zero interest in this kind of marketing. If they wanted to make the pen tempting, they could offer lots of nib options instead of only two; this way the ONLY reason to buy the pen is for the material it's made of. Is that material worth an extra $150?
I can be pretty clear headed about marketing and seeing what it is trying to do to me. But, and there is always a big but, right? But, I enjoy falling for some of the marketing too hahaha! I so agree that the logical choice would be to have different nibs and perhaps actual ergonomic experimental design. But changing the color, etc is easier, and ultimately probably less interesting. I think you can also include TWSBI and their same models with different colors and Lamy too. That kind of marketing may be simple, but it is effective.
Oh, nice review! Pilot is my favourite modern pen brand. It's just a bit of a shame that their larger pens with #15-sized nibs don't have more variety in colours.
Thanks so much! I am so with you there. I think there may be some concept where the smaller nibs are more "fun" pens and the larger ones are more "serious"
I love the wavy clouds in the pen,i don't know if the other colors would be as nice-however, i am avoiding looking for them as i know i can't afford that pen and why make myself miserable eh? Thanks for showing it, some thing to dream about it is really beautiful !
Thank you for watching! That material is nice, but it's not my favorite. I like some of the similar "glowing" material from some of the small pen turners!💝
That converter trick is the most Khue-like thing I've ever heard! Love it. By the way, I bought one of those Teruko notebooks a while back, when they had a pop-up store in Kabukiza, but just can't bring myself to write in it. Using it as a prop instead...
It is an awesome prop though! I have a Musubi I got at the Manila Pen Show a year and a half ago and can't bring myself to sully it's pages hahaha! Khue ruined me--I now have to have the converters match the pens!
Great review....I've just recently got a few fountain pens just for doodling and I am very pleased with the feel for a change from a ball point. This is a beautiful pen but I couldn't justify the cost for what I do....maybe one day 👍👍😍
Thank you so much! Absolutely. There is no reason to spend this kind of money on a writing instrument! There are so many fountain pens out there that write so well. That is why I have a gajillion Kakunos. They are the best bang for your buck. I have so many to do multiple inks in reviews.
@@InkyRocks I have the 912 FA with ebonite feed (it is a must for it), i think it is totally worth the boost your handwriting gets. If you want a similar pen for way less try the Himalaya v2 from FPR with an ultraflex nib. I nought that one for my 12year old as he liked my flex pens. I was surprised it was so good and thinking of buying one for myself too
They may be sparkly, it's hard to tell from the images on the computer and I've never owned one. It looks like the SE may be considerably more in line with some of Sailors. It's a pretty pen!
@@InkyRocks I have the Stella/ Stargazer in blue and pearl white. There is some subtle sparkle, esp in the blue and red. The white is more of a pearlized sparkle, if that makes sense. They are lovely pocket pens--great writers.
0:30 This is another amusing example of approximate use of French in Japanese marketing. « Seul » (the word that gave "sole" in English) has more a connotation of solitude than uniqueness : only, single, alone, lonely, by oneself. « Je suis seul » ("I am alone") is not the same as « Je suis unique » ("I am one of a kind") Femme seule : single woman Seul exception : sole exception Seul condition : only requirement etc. If Pilot wanted to evoke uniqueness, it would have made more sense to name this model Custom Heritage Unique or even better, Sans Pareil (no alike), rather than Custom Heritage SE which, even by the French, is interpreted as Special Edition. ――― Thanks for the review. Really well done and informative. And I agree : It would be oh! so wonderful to have a reedition of the Myu
Thank you for the French lesson! I so agree. I kept asking the sales person, "are you sure it isn't Special Edition?" It seems so weird to just use the first two letters of a word. Even if they improperly used the word seule, why didn't they just call it the Custom Heritage "S"? I guarantee, if they sold the Myu now, it would fly off the shelves!
Nice video. I like this type of flat finial of 91/92/912 and ProGears. My taste is much less colorful or shiny but I’m happy you can chase Sailors and enjoy this one too. It would be cool if they could make the Myuu again. Lovely journals too. Aloha
Thanks Andrew! I’m not sure what it is but I like the flat tops too. The analytics on this vid are wild. It confused me at first but people backed up and rewatched the Myu bit so much! I’m sure they would sell if they made them.
It is my absolute "go to" ink. Always looks good, and if it doesn't work in a pen, there is a problem with the pen! I'm still enjoying living in the land of stationery, though I do miss traveling and good french fries. Hard to get them here!
I do want different pens from Pilot but not to that price point 😅 It just makes me appreciate the resins that PenBBS has a little bit more. I can deal with boring Pilot pens if they are more affordable. I just got a beautiful olive 78G Pilot pen... great writer, 20£ with converter and 30 ml Pilot ink bottle. I will say, it is a beautiful pen... you are lucky to have it! X.
I so agree! I think that is one of the reasons PenBBS has exploded recently. They make some decent quality beautiful pens. I just love the Pilot nibs. I may do a video on trying to put a Pilot nib in a PenBBS body one day!
Oh yes. I love my M90. As for the SE, I might have shiny overload or something because it really doesn't do much for me. Nice to see Pilot trying, though.
It IS nice to see Pilot trying! And I understand the shiny overload. I've sold most of my glittery pens off because all of a sudden I got shined out! But I still can't resist some little bit of shiny hahaha!
Incidentally, I saw a grey Legance in an auction the other week as it happens, this is definitely reminiscent of that finish. The SE seems like a Legance acrylic on a 92, whereas the Legance had that finish on what was essentially a 912(including the #10 nib). Glad I'm not the only one who's getting progressively more confused with Sailor's 14k/21k, single tone/dual tone nib options; even the "divining charts" people made for it are no longer correct now!
@@nicolascloutier3199 You're right, looks like there were quite a few different Legances over the years. Thanks for pointing it out, another historical Pilot fact learned.
Speaking of new pens, seems like Sailor is going to be offering new models in the 1911 series with a relatively affordable price of 5,000&10,000yen. Would love to see a review on this as well!
Really? I haven't heard! Do you know the names of them? Will they be steel nibs? The 5000 yen one would be going head to head with pens from China. That is so interesting!
Yup looks exactly like my Legances. Maybe a different-ish size but if you could dim the light to not see the sparkling, it would be really hard to tell from a Legance.
@@InkyRocks well I just sold my Legances the other day. And I’ve been very sad to let them go... but I just realized I used them so little, I don’t remember if the inner lining was all the way to the bottom..... but I don’t think so.
It looks exactly like the most recent Custom Legance model (as opposed to the Legance 89s), except in different colours, although the black marble looks the same. The orange looks great to me.
I have several Pilot pens. My desk pen is a black Pilot Custom heritage 912 with the falcon super flex nib Con 70 converter, and my edc is a red and dark grey Pilot Kakuno with the Con 70 converter and the B cursive italic nib I swapped from a Pilot Pluminix. My most used pens are two Jinhao X750s Shimmering sands (sparkly) with a Jowo 1.1 stub in one, and a Bock 1.1 stub in the other. Total cost for the 2 pens and nibs £35.00. I prefer English fountain pens being an English man. A Conway Stewart 84 with a gold fine stub flexy nib in green and black celluloid cracked ice finish. Perfect. A black Waterman's pen with a 14k gold nib and gold clip and filler lever. A Swan Mabie Todd in braided hardened rubber, ebonite feed and a great nib. I love your videos. Keep them coming
Thanks so much! It sounds like you know what you like! I was just thinking about making a video about that. Dissecting what people like and making suggestions to match it.
I do like the way my 823 and 912 write, but I love they way my Platinum Karakusa, Rokka, and Shiun (bought only after the price dropped almost $100) look as well as write, so I would be really happy if this is the beginning of a new trend for Pilot. My wallet, maybe not so much! Too bad the SE isn’t a piston.
Yes, I agree. Part of the fun of a pen is how it looks. Glad you were able to get a Shiun at a better price. The price on the SE is not good but the Shiun was a bit scary hahaha! I do hope it is a trend.
I guess it kind of boils down to which nib you prefer--Pelikan or Pilot. The Pelikan has the advantage of being less expensive, which makes it a better value. I think the 215 (I don't have one) may be a bit heavier so I guess it would also be down to wether or not you like a lighter pen. Weighing these things while deciding is the fun part (at least for me!)
@@InkyRocks Same for me : a fun dilemma! If the Pilot SE comes to more than £200 - or is difficult to order in the uk - I'll opt for the 215. I have a 205 demonstrator and it weighs hardly anything.
Thank you! I really can't say. I don't prefer buttery smooth nibs as I feel like I'm sliding all over the place. I liked them maybe about 10 years ago, and then I got my first Edison and that changed my mind. I'm really searching around and I can't come up with one hahaha!
Had never seen a myu before. Oh my goodness. But thankfully I already have a slim aluminium Kaweco. Not that it lives in the same galaxy as the myu, but it is small, steel nibbed and not all that comfortable to write with. Thanks for a great video.
You’re right the MYU rule! I bought one look like chinese from AliExpress , but... it was a pocket one...the perfect one for one of your notebook...just in case...regretfully we will need to wait for the proper chinese version of the Pilot ...
hahaha! Great question. I've decided for now, Pilot is more fun to goof off with and Sailor is better at keeping my handwriting neater because of the slight feedback. I reserve the right to change my mind!
@@InkyRocks By the way, I don't know how you don't own about a jillion of those pretty Sailor pens with those lovely semi-transparent colors and colorful end pieces. Especially knowing your liking for light-play on minerals and rocks! Lock your money up! 😁
This feels like the only real review of this out there? Do you still like/have the pen? Recently found out about this and really like the look. But the price tag... ouch [relative to what it's based on]. But so hard to find any good "real life" shots of the orange. It's that or blue...
This is probably the only English review. The pen still remains quite popular here in Japan and I don't know when it may be available overseas. I still have the pen and love it. It kept me from buying the Pelikan that looks a lot like this. I've moved from overly glittery pens to material more like this. I agree the price point is painful, but even though I own (and like) the Amaoto Harusame, I feel the Pilot is a much better bargain at the same price. Especially since the Harusame is a Slim.
@@InkyRocks yup, I was looking on ebay and coincidentally, the next day I got the jetpens email. still slightly cheaper on ebay. I think i'll bite..but can't decide on color, lol
I bought one at the Raleigh pen show. The material, all the colors, looks stunning compared to most pens, if you like swirly glittery acrylic. It's material you can find on more hand made pens, or some place like Franklin Christoph. Honestly, if the price had been on the pen, I would have passed. But, I didn't hear the price until I already had my credit card out... and I can't say I really regret paying it (decent discount but still over $300). Of course, if Pilot was reasonable, this would be 912 size not Pilot 91 size. I like smaller pens, in general, but they cheaped out here.
Very beautiful but at that price I would expect a #10 nib at least .... Anyway, those marketing guys at Pilot/Sailor/Platinum have found out what we crave for and they got us where they wanted about pricing ... :-(
I so agree about the nib. The pen would have been stunning with a bigger nib. I always have to evaluate what I want in my collection and have sold off quite a few of my "sparkly" pens because they were all basically ProGears with glitter. That is the only way I can afford some of these hahah!
i would personally prefer this pen without the sparkles, but i'm sure it's a smart move for pilot as a company to finally start offering a line of sparkly pens, considering their recent popularity in japan
Lovely notebooks, but the pen doesn't wow me. I can understand why people keep asking you about the Harusame, it's a lovely looking pen, though I think a little cheeky to ask if you'd sell it. I know I wouldn't.
This has completely blown me away. Its kind of like the iphone SE but it really holds its own. Its a bit unfortunate its a #5 nib and more over smaller than the C.H. 92. If it was in the middle between the 92 and 823 then it definitely would be an unconscious buy for a lot of ppl. My heart fluttered when I saw it; Its not wishful thinking, a lot of us pilot fans want my beloved myu to come back. I treat my e95s as such... Barely using it because its such a great and classy pen. If they do bring it back I hope they don’t “muck up” (a term I just found out about and runs it in the ground such a funny term) the original designs both int/ext of the pen like Parker (the new 51) did (see PENBOYROYS video).
Yes, this pen, as I see it, is hopefully a "start". It missed on so many points. But it's a sparkly Pilot and I'm keeping it hahaha! I totally agree about the Myu. I saw PenboyRoy's review. He is hilarious!
I’m ok with them not including converters now that I have more pens than I can ink at any given time. I need one per brand, not one per pen in other words. I can’t see why this ticks off so many pen collectors. You know it’s not the converter you want them spending your money on in the overhead of making these fancy pens.
Yeah, that’s true. I think one of the things is that the price is going up but you are getting less. Many of us have so many pens inked that you need more than one per brand. I wish they would upgrade the converters though-like make them screw in like the old Delta pens.
"Seul" , is indeed the French word for "alone". It doesn't really mean "unique" but again, "the only one" and "unique" can be the same thing in some instances (BTW the French word for "unique" is "unique" it's just pronounced differently). So the name sounds a bit goofy to French speaking ears when you know what the "SE" stands for "SEul), it's like if it was called the Pilot Custom Heritage "ALO" (for "Alone"). Sometimes westerners are looking a bit silly by overusing/misusing Kanji's and Asian glyphs, to sound fancy. Funny it's kind of the same the other way around. At any rate, good looking pen, thanks for letting us know hat's new in advance.
hahaha! That is so true! Sometimes I see Kanji that is used so strangely by Westerners. And the same thing over here--some Japanese usage of western words are hilarious. What was so confusing to me was that I kept thinking it meant "Special Edition". Using the first two letters is just so strange.
@@InkyRocks Totally. I thought the same, I was expecting oh SE stands for Special something, or Soft something. After all Pilot released the "LS" which is Luxury Silent few month ago so. Sometimes Pilot strange ideas with the naming of their models. Again, thanks for giving us a glimpse of what's to come. And I wish they would reissue the Myu too.
@@InkyRocks Pistons cost the company more than cartridge/converter to manufacture (admitted assumption). So that means the cost is likely in the acrylic barrel, section, etc. material & manufacturing?
@@davidmathews2124 I really don't know. I think your assumption is both valid and widely accepted. Though I assume cost of manufacture is a factor in pricing, I also think that there are other factors, one of them being what they can get away with hahaha! I think this pen is being marketed to the Japanese and there are a lot of sparkly pens here (all the Sailor special editions) but not a lot of this swirly material. There are not a lot of (like none) independent pen turners here that use all the interesting acrylics. I don't think the pen is of particular high quality, but it's a different look for a Pilot.
@@InkyRocks Sure, the old phrase, “Whatever the market will bear.” comes to mind. But many people have been mystified by the seemingly bizarre pricing of Japanese pens here and in Europe. There doesn’t seem to be any apparent logic involved. And think of the significant proliferation of actually very credible Chinese turned acrylic pens out there in the US market. It’s not like we haven’t seen nice acrylics anywhere. To me, “It’s a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.” (that from Winston Churchill). Whatever, it is what it is. It looks nice, but I still don’t see the high price in it.
@@davidmathews2124 Actually, that is looking at it in one direction only. I'm mystified by western pricing--I haven't written with many Auroras that I find satisfying--they are both unattractive and dry out and skip (I have an Aurora where the slit is not even centered on the nib.) And MB "Precious Resin" is just plastic. And almost every western pen dries out way too fast. Chinese pens are fine--I enjoy their pricing, but their nibs are quite boring (though PenBBS is tackling that very well now.) Again, I believe that this pen is being marketed to the Japanese (I have not heard it being sold in the West) so the availability of Chinese acrylic in the US is not a factor. I'm curious as to why you think this pen is overpriced but not the Amaoto? Same price/same cartridge converter but it's a Slim. I was shocked at the price of that pen more. Or why are you not mystified over the pricing of Auroras, steel nibbed Leonardos, MBs etc. I think it's because those pens already started out high. We got used to the $120 Custom 74 and it bothers us that Pilot is charging $300 (same price as a steel nibbed CC Leonardo)
Why does Pilot team.up with a retail to have a Pilot Heritage 823 in a rhodium trim.A pen that everyone that eschew gold is waiting for.Imagine it as a true demonstrator or in a fancy blue or turquoise. Pilot why not.
Fabulous showcasing of a gorgeous pen ---" this is proper pen porn!"----; it's only failing for me is its section...I, err, like a bit of a waist on mine (!). 🤗👯
hahaha! Thanks! Sections rarely bother me as I think I kind of adapt to them. The Bauhaus 2000 really has no section and that tires my hand out a little. I still deal with it because I like it so much!
It evokes mixed feelings to those so called PilotOu (The Pilot Party) people... Pilot FPs "must" look boring or ugly! The standard Custom 67s of good old days, then current standard 742s... They must be in the "Butsudan or Buddhist altar" color (i.e. black and gold). Yes, if you want to know what kind of FP Pilot wants to make, then you have to have Custom 845. The writing experience you get from 845 is completely different form other standard models, but it is ugly and that is the beauty of Pilot! Then Custom URUSHI gives you writing experience beyond the category of FPs. Custom URUSHI is a category by itself. If Pelikan Souverän M800 or Montblanc Meisterstuck le Grand is THE fountain pen, then Custom URUSHI goes beyond the category of FPs. It is a new writing instrument. But it is ugly. That is why people love Pilot! We may purchase 100 FPs through our lives, but deep inside, we all know, say, when you become, say, 90 years old, the only FP you keep would probably be Pilot Custom 742 with the M nib. The most boring FP in the world. You then really appreciate the engineering of being standard of the standards (their demand for perfection).
I'm not really sure what you are saying. For the most part, normal Pilot pens tend to be less flashy than say Sailor because they don't do a lot of special editions. The pen I really enjoy is one that writes well and there are pens from just about every company that does that.

I own a Grance and that line hit me right in the gut 😂
I own 3 and laughed, lovely pens but I don’t know what is a Grance 😂
@renoZon Love the pen, but I don't know what it is! hahaha!
@Lauren Stylish me neither! Great nibs on them too!
Thank you so much for your very supportive comment! I don't think you need a SE, with already owning an Emperor and a 823!
What a lovely review, and such an interesting colour pen. One of the things I so love about your channel is all the wonderful stationary and related items you show, they all look so cool and different (in a good way). Thanks once again for the great review
Thank you so much Peter! I really enjoy the "stationery world" over here!
Love your channel& your reviews. Always entertaining & informative. Glad you have come back to Pilot. Thanks Alesa!
@@amyarmington4665 hahaha! They ARE great pens! Thank you!
what a lovely review! I always enjoy your videos. I am glad that Pilot is doing this - but i'm not going to lie, that Harusame is really tempting me! Pilot - more colors please!
Hahaha! It seems like everyone love that pen! I so agree, Pilot needs to step up their color and sparkle game!
I just embarked on my fountain pen journey and am loving the great community already. 🖋
That’s great! Hope you found it useful! Prices on other pens are going up and their price doesn’t seem as bad as before.
Awesome review! Thanks! I didn't know your channel, but I've just subscribed. Hoping to see more videos like this.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. A lot of weird different things on here, and I hope I can keep you entertained!
Very nice Review .I like the way you detail every facet of the pen
Thanks so much! Hope it was useful!
Thank you!
Another great video, and that sailor converter mod trick! Well that will finally satisfy my my frustration with not matching converters 😂
Thank you! I know! I'm keeping Sailor in business with all the converters I'm buying hahaha!
Nice review. Glad you customize the converter.
hahaha! It is funny how I sometimes get picky about weird stuff--it's not like anyone is going to see it! Thanks!
That is so tempting! I have to get a look at the orange one. The nib on my 912 is by far the best writer in my collection.
This being said I would probably end up having a huge wish list so it's probably better that I don't go to them 😂
hahaha! It is definitely hard on the wallet living here! So many temptations!
Wow! I also thought the product images put out by Pilot weren't that interesting, but then saw how it sparkled in the light. I'd love to see them in person one day.
I'm hoping that they will be released outside of Japan soon. But I don't know what they will be doing with it. I'll spread the word if they do!
Thank you!
I laughed out loud at the Myu bit. That was great.
hahaha! But true, right!?
Aloud not out loud.
I just ordered one - my first pen purchase in a year and a half! Really excited to have a new toy to play with - it's been too long!! Also - I thought I knew all the pen reviewers - this was a superb review and I' subscribed!
Thanks so much! It's not my flashiest pen by far, but it's definitely my flashiest Pilot. Still enjoying that smooth Pilot nib!
@@InkyRocks I love black pens (In fact I ordered the black Custom Heritage SE!) - and I agree - Pilot makes some of the most consistent and smooth writing nibs in the business. Not flashy but they're super functional. Cheers!
Great review (as usual)! I really want to see the orange in person.
Thank you! It is the "wildest" of all the colors. The "tamest" is the black one. Some stores didn't bother to carry it!
@@InkyRocks Yes... the price point is always a big factor.
But when you are willing to sell others, you know it means something to you. ;)
Glad you had strong pen jutsu defense and it didn't escalate to the Budokan ;-P No one messes with Inky.Rocks!
hahaha! This is so funny! You should narrate sports events! Great that you know the Budokan. My daughter competed there once in a karate tournament!
@@InkyRocks Let's revise that: No one messes with Inky.Rocks or her daughter! ;-)
Prices have been going up, but I don't know if it's greed, it may be survival (charging more for one pen to make up for losses in other pens etc.)
I don't know if prices will moderate, instead, there will be more pens that work fine but are not from the "name brand" companies.
I agree with you.
@@InkyRocks Oh yes, not just Japanese makers, lots of pen makers do this at least a little.
I was surprised it was so good and thinking of buying one for myself too
Pilot Stargazer and Pilot Stella 90S are both sparkly pens, I believe
They are a bit sparkly, but it's subtle in some of the colors. And I think those are the same pen with different names in the US and Japan/Europe.
They may be sparkly, it's hard to tell from the images on the computer and I've never owned one. It looks like the SE may be considerably more in line with some of Sailors. It's a pretty pen!
@Marilyn Gardner That's kind of what it looks like to me too.
@@InkyRocks I have the Stella/ Stargazer in blue and pearl white. There is some subtle sparkle, esp in the blue and red. The white is more of a pearlized sparkle, if that makes sense. They are lovely pocket pens--great writers.
@@marilyngardner4269 Yes that does--I'm beginning to appreciate pearlized sparkle more now. I'll need to check those out!
This is fun news didn´t know about this pen , thank you. :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much!
Hmm, I'm going to have to check these out!
They are worth a look. Wether or not they are worth this price is yet to be determined!
0:30 This is another amusing example of approximate use of French in Japanese marketing. « Seul » (the word that gave "sole" in English) has more a connotation of solitude than uniqueness : only, single, alone, lonely, by oneself. « Je suis seul » ("I am alone") is not the same as « Je suis unique » ("I am one of a kind")
Femme seule : single woman
Seul exception : sole exception
Seul condition : only requirement
etc.
If Pilot wanted to evoke uniqueness, it would have made more sense to name this model Custom Heritage Unique or even better, Sans Pareil (no alike), rather than Custom Heritage SE which, even by the French, is interpreted as Special Edition.
―――
Thanks for the review.
@@InkyRocks I totally agree. I wonder how hard it is too make. It seems like a combination of aesthetic and engineering mastery. And very Japanese.
Tsuki yo is my all time favourite ink! Great choice 👍🏻🙂 Thx for the video, some great info. Hows Japan life treating you?
It is my absolute "go to" ink. Always looks good, and if it doesn't work in a pen, there is a problem with the pen! I'm still enjoying living in the land of stationery, though I do miss traveling and good french fries. Hard to get them here!
I love pilot nibs so much, but the pen body... I wished they’d take more inspiration from Sailor! I hope the SE makes it to Goulet pens soon :)
I totally agree with you! That is why I haven't bought a Pilot in so long! I hope they get it soon too!
Try Japan Pens ,its a great company and their prices are comparable.
I do want different pens from Pilot but not to that price point 😅
It just makes me appreciate the resins that PenBBS has a little bit more.
@@InkyRocks ohh I’d love to see that!
That is so true. I now just don't think about what nib goes on what Sailor--it's gotten so confusing. Maybe that's the point.
My legance in celluloid propionate is 91size with no.5 nib.
@@nicolascloutier3199 You're right, looks like there were quite a few different Legances over the years. Thanks for pointing it out, another historical Pilot fact learned.
Woo Pilot started doing something more exciting finally
Lately, they have been going crazy! There is a Capliess SE, the translucent 912s, and a DIP pen is coming out! ( and a new nib!)
@@InkyRocks love a good aggressive marketing especially from Pilot. Think they were a little bit slacking.
Beautiful pen. Wow. Love your vids
Thank you so much!💕
Speaking of new pens, seems like Sailor is going to be offering new models in the 1911 series with a relatively affordable price of 5,000&10,000yen. Would love to see a review on this as well!
Really? I haven't heard! Do you know the names of them? Will they be steel nibs? The 5000 yen one would be going head to head with pens from China. That is so interesting!
First time ever I see a Pilot pen that has a compelling look at first glance.
It really is and and I’m still really enjoying it. It’s hard to beat Pilot nibs.
Lovely pen. Enjoy! Thank you for sharing this :)
Thank you! Have a great new year!
Yup looks exactly like my Legances. Maybe a different-ish size but if you could dim the light to not see the sparkling, it would be really hard to tell from a Legance.
Good to know. Does it have the cap lining all the way to the edge? I've never been a "poster" but this pen wouldn't bother me much to post.
A nice looking pen, but I don't see the point of double the price and less nib choices. Thanks for the review and cheers, Klaus
That is an excellent point and many many people would agree with you. I got distracted by all the shiny-ness hahaha! Take care Klaus!
any filling mechanism design change compare to the Custom Heritage 92?
It's a CC.
Chasing sailors... LOL. Pilot pens may not be the most sparkly and glittery but I do love their pens. I'm glad to see some sparkle on this one.
Yes! Someone caught that hahaha! I'm still loving it!💕
Truly a beautiful pen. I might forgo the Pelikan 215 I was going to order in favour of this.
Excellent review.
What is a buttery smooth nib that you might enjoy and suggest? I mean no feedback whatsoever.
Thanks for a great video.
hahaha! Thanks! That is a bummer it is uncomfortable. I feel like the Myu can be used as a weapon!
Love the "wishful thinking" bit!!!! Yup! Me too!
hahaha! My analytics showed that part was repeatedly rewound and watched--I think a lot of people agree!
@@InkyRocks I think Pilot should take note and do something about it!
You’re right the MYU rule! I bought one look like chinese from AliExpress , but... it was a pocket one...the perfect one for one of your notebook...just in case...regretfully we will need to wait for the proper chinese version of the Pilot ...
The MYU does rule! hahaha! So many people like it, it would be nice if they brought it back!
So the real question is, has Sailor converted you to their nib grind, or do you still prefer the grinds on Pilot pens?
hahaha! Great question. I've decided for now, Pilot is more fun to goof off with and Sailor is better at keeping my handwriting neater because of the slight feedback. I reserve the right to change my mind!
Please tell us more about the background music?
It's from Epidemic Sound. I'll need to look it up and I'll get back to you.
Woo-hoo! In in the first 48 mins!
Yayyy! I went to bed right after I posted this--stayed up WAAAYY too late.
Any issues with nib dry out or evaporation with that alternative cap liner?
In the week that I have had it, none. The real test is when I forget it in a drawer or something.
@@InkyRocks By the way, I don't know how you don't own about a jillion of those pretty Sailor pens with those lovely semi-transparent colors and colorful end pieces. Especially knowing your liking for light-play on minerals and rocks! Lock your money up! 😁
@@tsherbs1309 hahaha! That's why I don't. Empty wallet syndrome!
“Sparkly” trend 🤩
hahaha! I never thought at my age in life I would be talking about sparkly so much!
OMG... if only Pilot made that [insert shark music] pen again :o or even some slightly different version that pays homage to it. One can dream.
hahaha! wouldn't that be wild!
I’m more enamored by the journal than the pen. Maybe it’s a ”must see in person “ pen.
Well, it IS a lovely journal hahaha!
Oh, I just saw that they are for sale on Jet Pens!
Yes, I think many people would prefer a classic looking pen over some of this newer stuff. But you are right, the sparkly stuff is selling right now.
It's not like Pilot has a million different non-sparkly pens you could get instead.
It's stunning. O____O
Thanks! I'm enjoying it!
Hahhaha. love the Sailor/ pilot comparison!
I love them both, though they occupy different parts of my heart hahaha!
It's a beautiful pen
I'm really enjoying it!
Lovely notebooks, but the pen doesn't wow me. I can understand why people keep asking you about the Harusame, it's a lovely looking pen, though I think a little cheeky to ask if you'd sell it. I know I wouldn't.
hahaha! I AM enjoying the Harusame! I, like so many other people, wish it was a full up Pro Gear. But it is unusual with that matte finish.
I do love the feel of Pilot nibs, but they need to make some "sexy" pens. Hopefully, this is the start... As usual, another stunning video. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I totally agree. I hope this is a start and not just a hiccup.
The Pen Addict podcast #451 talks about this pen. I hope they do some more colourful models too.
@@breadyegg It was a great episode!
As always a great job, I may have to get an Instagram account... have a great week
hahaha! I swore I would limit my social media. But somehow I'm on RUclips, Instagram and Reddit, (oh, and Japanese Twitter!)
A agree that having a story behind a pen is important! isn’t this all about romanticizing your writing experience anyway?
hahaha! It could be one of the many reasons people use fountain pens too!
That myu could be a deadly weapon!
hahaha! Absolutely!
Myu 2? Me too!
hahaha! 100%!!!
The orange one must have been hard to resist but blue is more practical ... still ... lol!!! 🙄
So true! And I knew I would like the blue more later hahaha!
Retails for more than Pilot’s 823, eh? That’s bold. Especially for yet another cartridge / converter model.
Maybe! But I don't inherently believe a piston pen is superior--though many people do. I got rid of my 823 because I never used it.
Excuse me, the ink ?
It's Pilot's Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo--one of my favorites!
Thank you!
The orange SE is so dang nice! Anyone got 300 dollars I could borrow?
Seriously. I had a mini heart attack over the price of both those new pens.
God + Love + Kiss + Hope + Effort + Persistence = Happiness
Sounds good!
I hope Pilot will learn from the success of Platinum Procyon.
I didn't know the Procyon is so popular!
“Chasing sailors” lol
Why does Pilot team.up with a retail to have a Pilot Heritage 823 in a rhodium trim.A pen that everyone that eschew gold is waiting for.Imagine it as a true demonstrator or in a fancy blue or turquoise. Pilot why not.
That sounds pretty nice. I wish they would!
Spent your time chasing sailors! Lol
haha! glad someone caught that!
Kinda interesting to see Pilot knocking off the PenBBS Galaxy at over 7 times the cost and with a lamer filling system.
I hear the PenBBS Galaxy is a pretty pen. Haven't got one. I should check it out.
Pilot nib, though.
I am sorry what I have tried to said must have been rather strange feeling. I do apologize if I have made you uncomfortable in any way.
@@dokugohikken8769 Oh, you did not make me uncomfortable at all! I just could not follow what you were saying. (I couldn't understand.) You have commented a lot on my videos (thank you!) and I know you are never unkind!
Thank you very much for your kindness! Since this place is NOT my own blog nor anything, I should not have dominated the real estate of the computer screens of others. Due to the "stay home thing," I must have been starved of conversations (just a little bit being depressed) when I typed in such length. I am now embarrassed a bit, since while I did not intend to, but, reading what I typed now, I was talking like as if I was preaching or something like that... I am soooo sorry!
@@dokugohikken8769 hahaha! No worries! I don't mind long comments--I just can't always answer all of it. But I enjoy talking to the pen community. With this pandemic, everyone needs to communicate more on-line, that is only natural. If you are embarrassed, you can delete this comment if you like. But I'm not going to delete it because it doesn't bother me at all. Take care!
Can someone bring this woman a drink please? Voice fry escorted me off the premises.
Are you always this way on comments?
