From now through Christmas, I'll be posting a series of recordings I did last week back in my hometown. I didn't believe it at first but it's been nearly 2 years since I've been able to perform with these guys. These are my brothers in music and we grew up learning the music together. We had about 1 hour to record the songs you'll be hearing in the next 5 days. All but today's were a first-take after spending 2 years not being able to play together. This was truly a celebration in getting back together with two of my closest friends and favorite musicians on the planet. Enjoy.
I don't want to tell you how to live your life or anything, but you should do a vinyl release of a Christmas album (either the songs you recorded now or down the line) so I can buy it.
I love the 'music in video games' series you've been doing.. and that actually inspired me to work on interactive soundtracks in video games for my (highschool) thesis!
I was hoping the for 'We Three Kings' getting increasingly overally jazzy but I wasn't disappointed. This was amazing to listen to from a person who doesn't listen to much jazz!
I just know that Frank, Ella, Oscar, Duke, Stan and many more legends are up there looking down on this music and smile to know that Jazz is still alive and well
All the musicians are absolutely fantastic, but the stand out, really, is the bassist. He gives the right amount of depth when needed is is a perfect compliment to both the drums and keys. All of you seemed super into what you were doing. Superb trio!
I absolutely LOVE your loose time feel in this, Charles. As a classical musician this reminds me of how a conductor doesn’t conduct time, but he still leads the orchestra. In this case, you are FORCING the drums and bass to almost ignore you and just take cues from your ebb and flow rather than your rhythm. BEAUTIFUL!!
Im sorry but as a jazz drummer I have to wholeheartedly disagree. His phrasing might be sparse at points, but his time is very tight with the others and the drums and bass are listening very closely to him and each other, thats why theyre so together and catching lots of the same rhythms. Hope thats a bit helpful :) all love and happy holidays!
Yes that is what's is happening but sometimes in playing jazz you just get lost in the music and just play on your feeling and you don't see anything but yourself and you lose contact with the world, that is the most amazing feeling there is
Man, this song builds up so smartly and still there is so much emotion and passion in there! Especially the way it starts and ends is so fine that it made my face turn into a lettuce.
Hey Charles, first of all, thanks for finally showing some of your recordings! I see they often don't get many views, but I believe the views you get here are truly honest people who want to see all the work you put in music pay off. I can't speak on how the views affect you, but even if you end up making a second channel just for your songs, just know that me and others will be there to hear you! Amazing squad btw!
Been watching your videos for a little while now, and always look forward to your stuff. I used to play music more seriously, now it's more of a hobby. Your ability and knowledge of music I feel goes without saying, and that alone should propel your career. But, I think the more incredible, and engaging part of you and your channel is your positive, uplifting personality and outlook. There are plenty of skillful and knowledgable people on RUclips who can break down songs I like, or introduce me to new bands and concepts. But, I would rather come here because you consistently choose to look at art and artists without judgement, regardless of your personal taste. This is a long way of saying, I hope you keep making videos 'cause I'll keep watching them. And whatever you end up doing, I hope you maintain that outlook on life no matter what. Thanks.
I've always wanted to see more pure music performances by you, and this truly did not disappoint! I can't wait to hear the rest of the music you created. Please do also consider releasing more music on streaming platforms, I'd love to have some I it in my library and playlists!
The theory videos are great, but I love this! The bridge section was especially fantastic. Ready to see more of this, easy to see how much you love playing and the three of you sound awesome together.
this is amazing!! I played this song on a gig with my jazz trio, and imidiataly fell in love with the melody. Since there isn't that many recordings, playing this song was super kick, and was like the first time my band really shoved ourselves musically. Now hearing this truly amazing take on it, fulfilled my Christmas this year!!
You are a true master at your craft Charles. That was a masterclass. How great that you were able to get back performing with your mates who are a rock solid rhythm section. Word can't express!!!!!
I've had (Coltrane's) _My Favourite Things_ in my head since yesterday (because of PTX and Peter Collins), and now I'm noticing how similar the chord progressions at "field and fountain, moor and mountain" and "brown paper packages tied up with strings" are 🤔
I've enjoyed this and hope to do so again to a greater degree when I have my good speakers to hand. I feel like this deserves the extra space. I'mma treat myself!
That was absolutely beautiful. I stumbled upon your channel just looking up music related RUclips videos. I'd never really listened to jazz before, and now you've got me hooked. Thank you so much for the joy you bring through music.

@@spicy.d I'd buy the hell out of that.
Charles in that thumbnail looks like he's shattering reality with the sheer power of *J A Z Z*
And my god, jazz this good can sure as hell do that
Suddenly the scene from Soul where Joe enters The Zone 👌🏾
It really does look like that lol
Charles hopping out of his seat to put his entire bodyweight behind every chord is the Christmas joy I didn't know I needed.
A Charles Cornell Christmas is literally the best thing that could happen. I've been listening to christmas jazz for weeks already and i crave more ☺
oh right, I forgot Charles is an actual pianist and not just a pure musical memelord ._.
I never realized I needed "Three Jazzy Kings" this much in my life
the drummer is fire
love his playing
Saying "is fire" in 2021 is about as cool as having a mullet in 2007.

deep compliment thank you man glad you enjoyed it
Those three kings are from somewhere in the vicinity of Harlem, ca. 80 years ago. Or maybe S. Cali in the 60's.
Nice.
We three kings is the only Christmas song I enjoyed learning on piano as a kid, so this is quite cool.

I hear a ton of McCoy Tyner in the pedal point parts of your solo, and I mean that as an absolutely massive compliment.
