5:34 It's plastic on echo's and shindaiwa's as well as most other brands. Never seen an aluminum one. Kinda hard to expect premium parts from a very low priced piece of equipment.
I have not looked into it yet but it does have a pretty universal looking filter cover (the blue part) and im guessing you could make any sponge filter fit. The way they overthought and under-engineered this filter is crazy considering the weedeater's overall good quality.
Do NOT buy one of these turds! mine seized up after a few hours of use. I was able to free up the cylinder but couldn't get much compression after that ..the warranty and customer service is worthless. Waste of 190$
I've put several hours in the trimmer and it's still awesome so far.

@a.d.9889 my Husqvarna is plastic as well, I found out. I guess it is an industry standard now, unfortunately.
