What does my unique V6 Honda Odyssey exhaust sound like?

  • What does a 2004 Honda Odyssey with a J35a4 v6 sound like with a totally custom exhaust? It's got stainless steel headers, a stainless custom unequal length "J Pipe", 3" high flow catalytic converter, 2.25x12" Vibrant resonator, and a 2.25" Thrush glasspack muffler.
    Personally, I think this is one of the most unique sounding minivans you'll ever find.

    I did a lot of messing around with the exhaust on my 05 Odyssey for a while. I had a 12” vibrant resonator like yours and a 18” magnapack in back of it, both in place of the stock ones. I loved it but after a while it lost its tone and got drony. Now I just run the stock resonator and no muffler. Sounds awesome and I know the sound won’t change.

    Sounds much better than it did without the resonator.
    One thing I will suggest, and I don't mean this to be critical, but the color temperature of your headlights is too high. I would go with a 5000k bulb (I like 3000k for fogs for that nice yellowish color). Too many people drive around with blue headlights, and it makes no sense because it's actually much harder to identify objects at night when you're shining blue light on them. It wrecks the contrast created by the light beam (the best lighting for night visibility are actually the amber-ish sodium street lights, which unfortunately are being replaced by much higher-temp LED street lights in many areas). By going with a 5000k bulb, you'll get better visibility and more of a pure white-looking illumination which I personally think looks WAY better than the blue bulbs that most people put on their cars. It's also less obnoxious to look at for other drivers.

    I HEAR THE VTEC! I don't know if the exhaust did it but it definitely made the "switch" more pronounced.
    If you decide to go balls deep into this project I'd be interested to hear what a new set of aftermarket cams would do, especially ones with a higher lift for the "performance" phase. Since you already have an AEM ECU you could even tune the "economy" portion to be even more economic, making for a more violent transition; ergo MORE VTEC.

      @tnast  Год назад +1

      Cams and some other performance goodies are definitely in the long term plans on this thing!
      What's making the VTEC sound so pronounced is my intake. Some aluminum tubing and a good cone filter does WONDERS for getting induction sounds from these J motors. Gets all that goofy sound damping nonsense out of the way!

    👍🏼 your ody looks and sounds amazing. 2nd gens rule.
    Looking to make my’04 EX sound a little more aggressive since installing a custom ram air setup and you gave me some ideas. Thanks

    Best sounding Odyssey I’ve heard. I agree with the ‘90’s Porsche’ sound mixed with some Courageous Catmobile. Very cool.

    Just some friendly feedback, maybe leave your text overlays up for a few seconds longer so viewers can actually read them without pausing the video. They seemed to be up for only 1-2 seconds and then the next one would pop up. Other than that, some really great videos. Maybe consider a full video on your sequential shifter in action?! Different angles of it in action?! Just some food for thought. Well done mods!

    Check out the aero/jones turbine muffler. It will knock down the higher raspy tone and make it sound deeper than that current muffler.

    • @tnast
      @tnast  Год назад +1

      Might have to take a look at that... I'm actually picking stuff out for upsizing the system to 3", so the muffler suggestion is certainly appreciated 😎

    How did you make thosw popping sounds? Manual trans?

    • @tnast
      @tnast  Год назад +1

      I'm not entirely sure, but I think it was a combination of the high flow cat, and the ECU/tune. The trans is actually just an auto with a custom controller I built for it to get up and running with the AEM ECU.

      That's my custom trans controller I've been working on! The one in this video was sort of the original, and is fairly crude, but I've got a new prototype I'm working on the code for, and I'll hopefully be able to bring it to market.
