wish they let fred have more lead riffs over their simple power chords. he so talented and their music would have really stood above the rest of the genre
They did on a couple tracks to a degree. I think he made the songs better by giving space for Adams vocals and Rubano's bass lines (fuck me that guy is an underrated bassist) . However I'd recommend you take time to listen to Maimi and Spin of Louder Now with a decent set of headphones, Spin in particular has great guitar work and Eddie's rhythm work is alot stronger than on most of the album on that track.
I guess nowadays the youngins can't handle anything that sounds real anymore. There are very few bands these days that actually sing live anymore. And the more current bands suck live. TBS is amazing live and I love the fact that they switch things up during live performances.

it's worth mentioning to anyone and everyone who will comment on TBS videos from this era saying "back when adam could sing" that these live recordings (live from long beach, bamboozle '09, orensanz, etc.) were ALLLL pitch corrected. it's so easy to tell, too. adam did have some pitfalls vocally but those, ironically, were prime examples of what smoking and drinking can do to your voice. i'd say he's done better this part of the decade than he did in the mid-late 2000s.
lol no, u can tell that he could totally hit these notes. there's videos on tv shows of them playing a lot of songs and they sound really good. in projekt revolution he sounds really good despite makedamnsure sounding like total trash. he really did sing, but now he just can't.
that is a result of the guy doing the live mix not setting that live auto tune to include all the notes in the scale. it's bad. I am all for the live auto tune. helps especially when the singer is having a hard time. but dang.....I think a chromatic scale could have fixed it.
i can almost bet they were set up for the root note and scale of the song instead of just sticking with the chromatic scale. either way using it live wasnt any good for us.
@macalex414 I heard that every band playing the AOL sessions needs to sign some sort of contract saying that they're cool with the fact that the performance WILL be auto-tuned. I might be wrong, though. Anyway, Adam's vocal performances have always been hit or miss. But at least I think he's aware of that. I talked to him before a concert last year, telling him that he's my favorite singer. And he was like: "Oh really? I'm sorry." :-D
they totally coulda pitch corrected with an Antares outboard, and set it with a slow attack, so you can't hear it kick in. They coulda turned it off and on at their discretion as well, so mistakes get through on the verses and lend it some realism, but the long notes in the chorus sound better. Loads of bands do this live, and the sound engineer can make it as subtle or as obvious as he likes.
Sorry for using terms for stupid people to understand. I said autotune because most people don't know what pitch correction is. But yes you can run it live. You run through a vocal processor.
You are gravely mistaken. TBS built grew to where they are based on their live show. Adam is one of the most famous frontmen in this entire genre. They used to be explosive live. One more thing, this type of music isn't about studio perfection... i won't waste any more words.
i have been jamming tbs since I was like 13 or 14 and I am 21 now and I still think I got into them too late. ahaha so all of you must feel young as shit. 2009's New Again" is okay. I miss fred but I am glad shaun and john are back =] if this would of happened 5 years ago I would of been stoked.
From my limited experience he seemed like quite a funny guy. Plus, he jumped right into the crowd and sang the last 2 or 3 songs from there, while physically "molesting" a few people (only males), but in a funny way :-)
@sk8brder40 Sorry I just disagree. I saw them this past summer and his voice was great. He was not flat or out of key. I've been a fan for a long time too so I've seen their earlier shows and now their later shows. They've just matured. And I'm speaking "totally from a vocal point of view" as well. In my opinion he is not completely losing his voice. I'm not sure why we're arguing about this, I have my opinion and enjoy their music while you have your opinion.
Auto tune in their mics? umm how is that even possible? The audio may be edited afterwards, where they can add pitch correction or any other effects. You cant just "autotune" the mics... they all run through a mixer board which can change the volume, low, mid, highs. But seriously, shut the hell up and know what youre talking about.
@sk8brder40 you can't say I'm "completely false" if that's my opinion. I think he's great live and his voice is not ruined and that has nothing to do with the fact that I like them. Sorry if they're not up to par with bands like Simple Plan and Hedley that you probably love and are absolutely brutal live. I guess you're just so used to the mixed bands that anyone that has some real talent and can sing live sounds "bad" to you. Sucks to have your ears I guess!
The best era of TBS, by far.

I wish my balls would stop itching for just 10 seconds.
Fred is the king. Singing and providing lead guitar. Genius!!!
hes said so himself hes got no lungs for singing its the uniqueness of his voice that makes him kick ass
when did he say that?
He smoked like a fucking chimney and that ruined his voice a lot.
I can see Adam was having mic swinging withdrawls in this video.
0:32
I love john but damn, Fred got some mad skills.
I WILL ALWAYS BE IN LOVE OF THIS BAND..
ADAM WANTS TO SWING THAT FUCKEN MIC!! lol
Adam killed it at these AOL sessions. Hands down. Props. I kinda laughed though at Fred's harmony on the word 'beg' hahaha.
That last note of Adam's was killer!
I never liked TBS as much after Tell All Your Friends, but goddamn they're still such a great band. Listen to those vocal melodies.
Sounds like Adam nailed that scream at the end.

Damn that solo is great. Should have done that on the studio version
Adam sings pretty well in this video except for at 0:51 and 1:47. That note was so off pitch.
Those are the harmonies, pretty sure that's Fred singing those parts
James Hack fred rarely misses a note, im pretty sure it was adam's fault.
Autotune
It could have been the in ears, if he’s getting too much of the other mic he might be struggling to harmonise whilst hearing his own vocals
If you notice it’s the same exact note, guessing he can’t hit that note anymore. He does it on each of the other repeats in that song as well.
Great track
That ending
Its 2018! 🤟🏻

100% autotuned. See 1:46 for an example, they screwed up the autotune there hard.
Adam is "bad" live only because he is energetic on stage. Try singing when you're moving about so much.....
Paesan Ng no excuse. Haley Williams from Paramore can do it easy. Adams just accepted he’s a mediocre musician
I miss when Adam could actually sing. I don't like this new falsetto thing he does now where we doesn't support any of his notes
***** Tom DeLonge hurt his vocals with painkillers...Adam never quit cigarettes. Common lesson of drugs being bad.
if you can't tell this isn't autotuned, you need medical help
