I was a huge Evertune skeptic and then I ended up getting an LTD MH1000 ET for very little money, and it completely ruined most of my other guitars for me. I never realized how much time I spent diddling around with tuning before. And I really can't tell any difference in tone. There is a slight difference in how the strings respond on an ET guitar, but it's really nothing too bad. I love it.

great vid, curious to see the comparisons video of evertune vs without,
your observations are pretty much spot on, the tuning stability/intonation is awesome, especially in recording situations and live, where it's one less thing to worry about
the feel is definitely different with everything on separate springs, it's even more apparent when switching between guitars, ends up being user preference with regards to convenience, if the advantages outweigh the negatives
i absolutely love the solar/evertune i have for those reasons, but recently picked up an ibanez RGD with an upgraded hipshot bridge, that i'm enjoying more, despite the tuning instability that can drive me nuts 😄 might just be the honey moon period and returning to passive pickups

I'd love to see a side by side comparison between an ET and a conventional bridge. Right down to even getting a stop watch out timing how long an open string will resonate for. That's what I've found with my ET, it's chords do not ring out for very long, they deaden quite quickly.

I have to say, I agree with you on the Evertune feeling more like a floating trem - something about the spring system absorbing the impact of the pick attack is probably what leads it to feeling spongier than a hardtail. I love the Evertune system a lot, and that's probably the only negative to it for me

All the songs were great Jon. Great job on the repair too. I’ve always shied away from Evertune bridge guitars but I’m a simple stop bar tailpiece fan. My two guitars with Floyd Rose bridges are mostly unused. I also do lots of “boomer bends” lol. Tune-o-matic bridges very good with my playing style. Enjoy the content as always! For some fun, check out some AI Metal that is really good - Frostbite Orckings are an AI band and one of the first in the soon to be growing Metalverse. Check out their video “Guardians Of Time” for a great song amazingly done by AI. The whole Metalverse concept they are building is very interesting to me. The overwhelming majority of ebony fretboards are stained black. If ever ebony is naturally pure black it would be very rare and pretty expensive.
It depends on the guitar but tbh i prefer non stained ebony, i have an e-ii horizon that must have missed the staining process because it has some beautiful striping on the ebony fretboard and i love it. The colour is more like a dark chocolate colour rather than black.

Interested to see if you think the Evertune is worth it. Evertune seems like a good idea, but I think you would need to be reasonably close to zone 3 to be able to do vibrato and bends without discomfort. Imagine it'd be good for tracking though, as you could make it fully in zone 2 for some parts, and then close to zone 3 for other parts that have vibrato or bending.

  • @nevesnow
    @nevesnow Год назад

hi Jon, cool video! I have a similar experience with ESP, Evertune and Thomann which I would like to share: so I've bought a EC1000T CTM left handed with Evertune and Fishmans at Thomann beggining last year, yes more than one year ago :) so was a "pre-sale" and I've waited until the time has come and it was sent to me 3 weeks ago (more or less)..
    - as I took it from the box, oh man.. totally moisted, even I've left some hours in the living room, before taking it out from the box.. well, I've dried it carefully and started to playing it..
    - first problem, 6th string from evertune making horribles spring noises or kind of, and plus something was vibrating on the plate from evertune (I've took the cover to check it).. I was annoyed with it but I thought, ok I can fix this later somehow..
    - so I kept playing and suddently the bridge pickup sound starts to "die" from nowhere.. unplug the cable, plug it again, it starts to work (the battery was brand new, it came without battery, so I had some new here)..
    - there were some marks on the fret board too, the frets were poorly done..
    - the saddle from 6th string was making a lot of friction noise when I was bending
    - activating the second voice was totally awful, the sound was getting muddy, without volume (maybe wrong connection/soldered)
so I've reached Thomann about these problems and they've immediately sent me another guitar and I've sent this one back.
So then came the new guitar, I took it from the box, and man, was a totally different feeling, the weight was different, was better adjusted(string height, bridge etc), so I've tried it and all was fine, no problems with Evertune, no problems with the pickups, better sound. So I'm really happy with it and the Evertune is awesome!
The only two things: on the back near from the cavity from the pickup switch was missing the paint and the binding is already "yellow-ish" in some parts.. so I've contacted Thomann again, and they gave me a discount for that "cosmetic" stuff. The guys from Thomann were really helpful and quick to solve the problem. But ESP should have more attention to these things and to the details, because these guitars are absolutely not cheap and for the price, they deserve a bit more attention, in my opinion. So moral of history: it's kind of a lottery, it can be you reiceve a good guitar or a bot so good one. :)
    cheers

Hey Jon! Guitar looks amazing. Noticed that the saddle for the high E on the evertune seemed a bit 'chewed up' in the close ups -- did it come like that (I feel so negative pointing it out, so apologies for that)?
Also, had some issues with the neck on my Phoenix-1000 Vintage white. Unfortunately, the neck was quite warped & had a divot inwards around the 16th fret while the rest was completely straight. Had to recess the bridge to get it playing right with lower action (plays like a dream now though). Though, mine was made in Korea -- so may just be some QC issues with imports now that manage to slip through the cracks. Hopefully something they manage to start catching in the future!

I love Evertune, but I had a guitar with an Evertune and I noticed that my guitar lost a lot of sustain because of the springs in the back, especially after the 12th fret on every string...this sucks a little bit for lead playing because you feel the note gets lost quickly. And I noticed that you also have to "work harder" for some big bends to happen, even when you are set right in the sweet spot between the zone 2 and 3. But, for metal music, Evertune is really the best option, especially playing live and recording guitars.

I've heard that some other people also had some issues with that lost of sustain. With a Evertune installed the cavity is so big I would hardly call it neck through. I have owned 3 guitars with Evertune now and I absolutely don't like it, the feel is off for me and it ruins the sound of the guitar for me too. I wish they would make a silverburst with a regular TOM bridge. As always your videos are awesome, and your riffs really tasty.

    Apa?!.
Saya fikir mungkin tidak semua gitar nya mengalami hal tersebut. Indonesia memiliki standar yang baik dalam pembuatan gitar ini.

The ESP Phoenix is the only guitar ever made by ESP Guitars that I have ever disliked; the guitar is supposed to look like a Gibson Firebird, but it fails miserably in that regard.

That's a lot of firebird-style guitars, at least LTD/ESP gets them right.
