Pelican is a wiggle-worm 😂. She does not want to stay still at all! So pleased that she's doing better ❤. Any chance of her thumbnail growing back or did too much including some of the bone tip get ripped off that it's not possible? 🎉
Anna, they're not hands, they're her feet; her hands are enclosed in her wing membrane. Batty feet are very spidery but they are feet and don't have opposing thumbs/toes so they're not prehensile.
Yes Tamarra - they like to feel out everything, and she loved to have as much info about her environment as possible and to have her feet hooked into things.
@@Megabattie I figured that. But thanks for putting the record straight. It is everything that I love about these bats. It is that they are everything opposite to what you'd expect (and why they probably creep some people out). Those long "fingers" er toes, that keep grabbing at the cage and at your gloves. Hanging by their "hands" from a branch - but their head is upside down! Er - no - they're hanging by their feet and their head is the right side up - it is we who are upside down. I love these topsy turvy creatures. Baboons also have lovely hands (both ends), but otherwise everything is the right-side up from our perspective.
No flying at Meg’s!!! Hope she continues to get better ❤️🩹 Pelican is a beautiful girl with some cranky attitude hopefully that means she feeling better!!!! 💕🦇💕🦇💕🦇💕🦇💕
She's not particularly cranky - she's just curious and keeps wanting to see what's going on and what I'm doing; the problem is that she's also biting me (not hard) when I try to do it and she's squirmy and I can't keep her still while I just get the dressing on. I could use brute force and just hold her down while I'm doing it, but that would be stressful for both of us. There was no malice in her bites, just gentle nips to say I was hurting her and she wanted to be treated more carefully.
@@dazylulu1832 With some very uncooperative bats you just need to hold them tight to do stuff with them, however it works better if you have their cooperation and permission. She wanted to see what was going on and didn't like me manipulating her thumb, and I didn't need to be bitten. WE kind of worked out a compromise.

Getting involved in bat rescue was a complete accident; I joined wildlife rescue to rescue and care for parrots (love parrots). Somehow I accidentally ended up rescuing and caring for bats exclusively. Once I realised how amazing they were I wanted to learn more and more; once I developed the adult handling skills and gained more facility, I learned to love them and their interactions, their intelligence and their sense of humour. It was an accident but a very happy accident over 17 years.
I'm not necessarily a better person; I am just a different person and I somehow happened to fall in love with batties in my 50s and haven't looked bat since.

I know that you always manage beautifully but have you ever thought of tying a bandage muzzle around the bitey bit the same as vets sometimes do with long muzzled dogs . Just a thought to make treatment a bit easier for you single handed. Love the interaction with pelican 😊
I thought she would be cooperative; I had many options but she wasn't actually biting me - she was nipping to let me know she wasn't happy; had I restrained her she would have been very stressed and distressed, so I decided to continue; I kept thinking I almost had it on so I kept going. I don't choose to muzzle them unless they're a big adult male who is intent on turning me into confetti. Most of Pelican's "unhelpfulness" was because she was so wriggly and I didn't want to use any force to restrain her.
Well Meg, she had to do a half hearted bigwings and take a poke at you, after all, you DID win the battle of dressing the thumb, and she’s not going to forget that. She is such an expressive girl, not content with just using her face, her whole body is involved, but she remains silent through her exertions. She’s a bit of a pain to wrangle, but she is exactly my favourite character of bat, determined and feisty. I think she has put some weight on too. She was even trying to box you with her bad thumb. Small as she is, she will soon be the boss among the other bats I’m sure. The yogurt isn’t as appreciated as the juice and grapes, and some always makes it into her ear. I actually think she really likes you now she knows you are not going to eat her, but she can’t let you know that. She has really started to come back from her shock, and is eager to assert herself in this relationship. I love that she makes you laugh.❤️🖤🇨🇦

@@Megabattie awesome thank you so much!
Pelican does love t gf e yogurt, very much thank-you!!
She is a pretty little bat❤
So sweet, and really warming up to you!!!🥰🥰🥰
So cute ! ❤🥰🦇
^^ Pelican's face is too cute.
So happy she is still doing well.
Pelican is a wiggle-worm 😂. She does not want to stay still at all! So pleased that she's doing better ❤. Any chance of her thumbnail growing back or did too much including some of the bone tip get ripped off that it's not possible? 🎉
I don't know how much damage she has done; it's a matter of wait and see what happens when healing starts.
My thumb Meg, my thumb.
It is not just the face and eyes. Those hands are so human, with the long fingers.
I enjoyed the way she felt out the scissors and Meg’s hand with her feet. She wants to know everything that is going on.🖤🇨🇦
Anna, they're not hands, they're her feet; her hands are enclosed in her wing membrane.
@@annatanneberger1 They're very contrary to what you think; I had one called Tapsalteerie, which is gaelic for topsy turvy.
He’s the king of the darkness. He’s got teeth. 🤭
But he's a she, according to Meg's description.
She is a princess of mischief and interaction.
@@MegabattiePerfect description, Penguin is one I won’t forget…and will revisit when I need a chuckle.🖤🇨🇦
She's a little cutie.
Watched with enjoyment, wonder and awe! Thanks to both of YOU ladies!
Yes, she ' s a funny girl, I hope she is doing very well
She is a funny girl; she's still funny and still stuffing her face.
Feist and battitude, indeed!
I'm so happy she doing Betta the sweet angel that she is thank u for caring for her
You’re an inspiration Meg! ❤🦇
Little, naughty spicy girl.
Funny little girl who was a total stickybeak and control freak. I love her to bits.
@@Megabattie you are so good to them! Brute force would be awful I love that she is so curious and hope she continues to do well.
@@MegabattieShe didn’t look like she was seriously trying to bite you, but she wanted to be in on anything you were doing to her. I noticed she didn’t chew the dressing off, so maybe it is less painful with the dressing on.🖤🇨🇦
@@Megabattie I know I still have a lot of videos to watch, but in the four months that I’ve been watching I have never seen you get bitten! i’ve seen plenty try, but you’re so good at what you do!!!
Hello sweet Meg !!,I was wondering what was it that made you fell in love with bats and still doing everything for them even after retirement?!!
We always were learning at a young age that bats were scary, have diseases and could kill you!. After I saw your channel I dont believe all those nasty things. They are very smart, and cute and not every bad is sick
Love and Kiss from me from the Netherlands
Getting involved in bat rescue was a complete accident; I joined wildlife rescue to rescue and care for parrots (love parrots). Somehow I accidentally ended up rescuing and caring for bats exclusively. Once I realised how amazing they were I wanted to learn more and more; once I developed the adult handling skills and gained more facility, I learned to love them and their interactions, their intelligence and their sense of humour.
It was an accident but a very happy accident over 17 years.
@@Megabattie ohh wow !!!
You're a better person than me one of the few mammals I wouldn't think twice about leaving to natural selection.
I'm not necessarily a better person; I am just a different person and I somehow happened to fall in love with batties in my 50s and haven't looked bat since.

She’s so feisty! ❤
Nice jjob.. 😅😅😅
❤
I admire her feist and confidence, and her stickybeakiness!

Does “stickybeak” mean bitey, Meg?
No, a stickybeak is a busybody - someone who wants to stick their nose into everyone else's business and wants to know what's going on everywhere.
@@Megabattie ,
That’s the best synonym I’ve heard for busybody.
@@MegabattieThat description fits her very well. Here the terms Newsy, and Busybody are most often used, but Stickybeak is wonderful.🖤🇨🇦
@@tamarrajames3590 Ah, Newsy is a new one to me, but Stickybeak is probably the most common term here.

Her name should by rights be Octopussy

@@Megabattie How cute
Pelican is a cutie but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Took him a while to figure out what part of the syringe is the business end.
/edit: I misgendered a bat.
She was applying batty logic to the equation; if you bite on a piece of fruit and squish it, you get more juice at once. If you bite on a syringe and it doesn't happen, then at least you know that you can't run off with the entire bit of yoghurt fruit syringe.
@@Megabattie That explains it then. 😄
