      Thanks Moonlight.
      Welcome to Megabattie,
      I put lots of information in the descriptions under the videos - so if you have questions, look for the answers there first. I also put the fate of the animal if I know it, at the time I put the video up. I may put updates there later if I find out what happened to the animal after it has left my care.
      There is also a Happy Outcomes playlist if you want to only watch videos where the bat survives; this is a real life channel and you get the good, the bad, the ugly and distressing, and even my oopsies.
      You can find further videos on an individual bat by searching in the YT search bar for Megabattie/and the name of the bat you want to follow.
      There is a community tab (like a mini Facebook page) on my channel - if you go to Megabattie home page, there is a menu bar across the top under the cover pic. Home, Videos, Playlists, Community, About. If you click on the community tab there are posts there where I can share pix and talk about some of the videos I put up and answer questions.

    They both have that fairy dust, head smacked wonderment that is so pretty despite what it is. I hope Labyrinth can be saved. Fig Daiquiri does look stronger but watching your channel for years, you just never know which why a bump on the head will go. Absolutely Meg, you're the best bat naming carer ever. I really hope you feel better very soon. 🦇

      Hi Anna
      You seem new to my channel; I always talk to the bats so the sound of my voice doesn't bother them; they don't speak English but they do learn to understand tone of voice and I keep my words and actions and tone of voice very positive and reassuring.

      I actually debated whether or not to leave it in the video, but it's indicative of her having some leg or grip weakness.

      Yet neither of them has a microchip so they haven't been handraised.
      Labyrinth is too young to have been released through creche after being handraised, but Fig Daiquiri is old enough since she's from 2022's baby season - she's not chipped though, or banded.

    Well I saw the oddest sight last night. It was flyout time but instead of them all going in the same general direction, they were going everywhere and basically none of them could seem to make up their mind what direction they were going in. As far as I could see there was no predator chasing them. Any ideas?

    • @Megabattie
      @Megabattie  8 месяцев назад

      When the weather is weird, the bats start flying aimlessly around; they also leave the colony earlier when there's not a lot of food around. If there's a predator in the colony or a disturbance they'll mill around - but if it was flyout time maybe they were sensing a weather pattern which was dangerous and trying to figure out where best to go.

    Meg, my doctor has prescribed ipratropium nasal spray for the irritating runny (drippy) nose & post nasal drip. He says it’s usually prescribed more for men than women, but asked if I wanted to try it, and I’ve had good results with it. I have to use it almost every to every other day due to the runny nose. But I only have to use it once a day and it does help dry it up and stop having that little constant sniffling and runniness to my nose. Something to think about.

    Can a bat become a nice pet? Can a bat recognize a human? Are bats intelligent animal?

    • @Megabattie
      @Megabattie  3 месяца назад

      Bats aren't pets; they're wild animals who want to be in the wild.
      They're socially and emotionally intelligent but colony animals who need batty company and interaction.
      Don't want one as a pet; enjoy them as they are.

    Are you no scared from lysavirus?

    • @Megabattie
      @Megabattie  8 месяцев назад

      No; fewer than 1% of the bat population may be infected at any one time, but they have to be actively infected and sending the virus from their brain at the time in order to be able to transmit the virus.
      The virus also has to be present in the saliva and it has to contact a nerve ending through a bite or scratch.
      I've seen 3 infected bats in 17 years, all of which I correctly identified as being "wrong" and sent them off for testing.
      I don't get bitten or scratched; I wear sensible arm protection and I'm good at handling them so I don't get bitten.

      Get well soon. Not so much bat sniffies as Meg sniffies, know the problem well in the cold winds.

      only it's horribly hot and humid here so it's the opposite end of the spectrum.
      I get out of the air-conditioned car and the heat and humidity make my nose run.

    Have you named one smoke stack after the drink yet? It's not my name, if you have not used it and decide to use it I won't harass you

      LOL no, but it would have to appeal to me at the time and be relevant in some way.

    We do appreciate your awesome naming skills, Meg!
    I get maggot anxiety when I see the lint on the bats, too.
    Was that giant fig tree a Moreton Bay Fig? They get those huge above ground roots. There’s an impressive historic one in Santa Barbara.
    I’ve heard the ear squeaks, too. The first time, I heard my sister’s ear squeak when we were on a ski lift. Mine have done it a couple of times. No one tells us about the phenomenon. Can you use your superpowers to name it something fun?
    I hope that the batties are doing well, and get to see Adrian soon, and I hope your nose sorts itself and stops being annoying to you. Thank you again, for all that you do. 💙🤍
    Addit: I imagine that the dogs smell and hear the bats much better than humans can.

      I think it was a Moreton Bay Fig - it wasn't a port Jackson Fig. I didn't look closely.

    🤞🏻 that Labyrinth’s shoulder is OK, and that her and Fig Daiquiri’s head’s are not too badly smacked. Such beautiful little girls 🥰. Very cautiously hopeful for their recovery. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
    It’s wonderful to see you out and about, at least for a little while. Progress in the getting well department! Still takes a wallop out of you, though. I hate how long it takes to recover from the flu 🤧!
    Why, of course we adore your naming prowess! You are the Master Namer! ❤🦇❤️

      Not everyone appreciates the naming effort and skill I put into name selection... sadly.
