Rescuing a flying-fox hanging out in an office: this is Incu

- Incu (whom we call Inki) is a juvenile/subadult cusp female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox who was noticed just hanging out in the office above a warehouse.
She was just hanging out on a shelf behind the workers, minding her own business, with the office staff going on with their business.
She probably got in through the courtyard doors, and she may have been there for a few days; she was certainly very dehydrated and also very very quiet, so I suspect she's hit her head sometime in her contretemps with fate...
She was an easy catch once I got high enough. I am always entertained by what people think is easily reachable. I had to get 1.5 metres off the ground then lean in another half metre in order to reach her, which isn't possible from the ground or by standing on a milk crate.
In care, she went to Seamorn because I was about to drive north on holidays; she was very unhappy and stiff in care; she wasn't relaxed at all, even when she was joined by Freddi the following day, she still wouldn't relax.
She is now hanging out with the big juvies and subadults (and Freddi) in the hospital aviary awaiting a place in the next release cycle.
Yay! Two survivors; Inki and Freddi
Incu/Inki's name came from the warehouse from where she was rescued; it's a mail order company of some kind, called Incu. Seamorn found it easier to call her Inki and remember the name,
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for me. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.

Awww shes just supervising her employees.
GREAT rescue! Meg you are truly THE battie-rescue ambassador... educating the MOPs... while executing superb gentle but firm rescues. I am quite positive that each bat that gets rescued by you appreciate your calm demeanor... gentle voice... and tube of glucose. BZ!
I absolutely enjoy seeing you educate MOP because through your efforts, I believe more become interested in all of the gorgeous bats survival. Hooray for Inky, and of course you Megabattie.😊
*Battie survivor dance
Remember to watch 30 seconds of the commercials people it helps Meg save these beautiful lives..
All those people listening to you n the office got up this morning never expecting to learn so much about bats or that they would encounter the world-famous Megabattie. Now they are fans, as they should be! They won’t forget. Good wishes to little Incu.
She is gorgeous ❤
She really is quiet. I would be scared silent also.
She is indeed, bloody gorgeous! Hope she does well. Love from England
Dear little Incu hanging quietly until she was spotted. I’m glad she’s ok. 💕🦇
awww shes just so sweet, Thank you Meg for helping these little darlings
Just monitoring their work efficiency🤫I have a name and it’s “cranky”👍
She was so suspicious, and clearly too much of a lady to tell you off properly. She kept her good manners until things got a little more personal, possibly due to the mention of nipple groping, lol. It's wonderful that Incu is a survivor. 🦇❤️
😂
Hang in there Incu.
They are totally endearing 😊
Meg, it never ceases to amaze me how little Australians know about the flying foxes. I think you, with your bubbly personality and singing voice, would be perfect for a TV show, teaching everyone about the baths. Within a year every Australian will be a fan of the flying foxes and you. Everyone will take care of them and the government will ban open holes in buildings. You become famous and rich and can retire somewhere in your dream house, in the middle of a colony of flying foxes. Meg, I wish you continued success and strength with your wonderful work. Warm regards from The Netherlands.
You know lots about flying-foxes because you watch my channel; how little or much did you know before you found my channel?
I didn't know that their legs were on backwards so they couldn't stand up; I knew they were fruit eaters and they hung upside down, but that's as far as it went.
Bats aren't popular amongst the populations, and few people ever come into contact with them to see them up close and personal and to see their face and their intelligence.
Meg doesn't want to do TV or be famous, Meg just wants to rescue bats and see them released.
Love a Cranky pants! 😂❤
Yes, she's a pretty girl and a survivor, yay! There were a lot of "awwws" and "ohhhs" among the workers there, I hope they discovered their love for bats.
Another good looking guest at the buffet. Enjoy, IncU!
Batiful she is. 🇨🇦🦇🍁💕
Marvelous thing you're doing ❤
@Gogo Aridze sure thing ❤️
^^ another cute batty saved
hope she can make it, poor things are so fragile
YAY! I always sigh with relief when they make it! 🦇💕💕💕🦇
So cute 🥹
their faces are so damm cute.
Very pretty girl. Nice to know she's doing good in care and met Freddi. Have a great trip, Meg.
Very very very beautiful bat😅
IncU❤❤❤
Incu is cute but is a feisty one! Lol 🦇🩹☮️
Thank You Meg! Inki is positively beautiful, w/her shiny eyes!!🦇🤗💕 I am so happy the warehouse staff were learning & really cared!! To hear she had feist later, made me smile! Perhaps she & Freddi🦇 are a couple?💕
Same sex couple then...
@@MegabattieOh well, as long as these two ladies and all the Bats survived. Thank you Meg for ALL you do!🥰🦇🤗💕💕
I like it when u tell the mop to take pictures so they can really tell how lovely the flying foxes are.
You gave a wonderful explanation
Nice. Incu seems to be quite relax🥰
In care she was very tense, even when Freddi came to join her.
Love what you do Meg. I watch your daily post in bed just before I sleep. Great way to end the day. You're my very fav animal rescuer!
Thanks Philip, your comment made my day.
the famous Jeddah clip will really relax you ruclips.net/video/WVz8rvIl_vY/видео.html
@@Megabattie i watch your channel twice a day: in the morning to start my day and before sleeping to sleep well
@@sonialignani Thanks Sonia
She is so pretty!
Incu, is awesome!
Good for Inky and Freddi 👍 Enjoy your travels, Meg.
Inki was probably happy to get out of the 9:00 am - 5:00 pm slog! 😂
🤣🦇😂
😂😂😂
She is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Bless you and all of your caring efforts! 💕
Gorgeous girl!❤️🦇🇨🇦
Beautiful little girl! Lovely MOPs who were not afraid and willing to learn from you! Heal quick Incu ❤
Yah! Another survivor! And a new lesson on Nycteribiidae! Which I looked up to see how grisly looking they are....eeeek.😇❤🖤🦇🖤❤️
What a sweet little face.
The glucose is a great ice-breaker. Instant friends!!!🥰
Sometimes they're too cranky to accept it
Beautiful and well behaved 🦇💞😇
I love these flying foxes. Such beautiful animals. You can clearly see her watching everyone with as much interest in them as they have in her. I remember spending several days in Sydney returning to the Royal botanical Gardens daily to see the flying foxes. Love them!
No flying-foxes at the Botanic Gardens anymore; they got rid of them by harassing them into leaving.
They still drive around twice a week at 4am with a golf cart with large speakers playing heavy metal music and construction noise to prevent them from feeling comfortable settling back in the gardens.
WoW 😮 her teeth 🦷 were awesome ❤
Meg, thankyou for sharing your rescues.Inky is gorgeous! 💜🐾♥️ Nora. From USA
Megabattie, the accidental bird and possum in the chimney rescuer. 😊
Occasionally, yes. I've rescued about 2 possums in chimneys, and half a dozen noisy miners in chimneys
Re-watching and so very happy Incu is a Survivor lady Bat!🦇🤗💕💕Thank you Meg!!🥰
I hope I don't step on anyone's toes here, but is it only me who thought that this office had the most depressing vibes, for the first 3 minutes of the video? The way the people seemed bored/desinterested/uncaring? Glad this changed after you plucked Incu and they got to see her beautiful face 🙂 Especially loved the reactions of the people on the lower floor 🙂 So did they offer a permanent job for Incu, or is this not her thing? I hear there's an architect's office that doesn't discriminate against bats that's looking for compotent staff...
The people were in their work place which was a warehouse distribution office. They were fine, just waiting until I did the rescue so they could be interested.
Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🦇❣️ so alert & quiet, hearing all the voices helped, I'm sure, to soften the fear. Hope she can be rehabbed & relesed.😊
Yes, she'll be released when the batties go north to a release cage in the next week or 2.
I can imagine whomever discovered it must have jumped out of their skin when they realized what they were looking at, the only thing more scared was the bat!
reminds me of the bat hanging on the broom/mop handle a while back.
Incu sounds like Inca, as in the Native american civilization in South America. Inky sounds like "Inti" (which means sun in quechua, the language of said civilization, and the name of the sun God, naturally)
Hatunmi sumaqchalla wawa. (Very precious baby)
Allin uywacha. (Good cute animal)
Incu (IN-coo) was the warehouse business name.
Seamorn couldn't remember Incu; she thinks my names are weird, so we just tidied it down to Inki.
Thanks.
What does the Hatumni part mean? I like the look of the word.
@@Megabattie I remember that part of the video, very nice naming idea imo. I just liked how they sounded similar to me by happenstance.
Hatun means big, but using it in front of another adjective, like sumaq, can emphasize it. "Mi" is a suffix that is a marker of evidence.
I made a separate comment already, then read yours. I was wondering if the company name was a play on words, for orders that are "in queue."
@@pjp9383 I didn't ask; it could be the owners' initials or anything
Incu is gorgeous, and I’m very happy she is a survivor. You had that office spellbound while waiting for your ladder. It was good to see a little battitude in this little sweetheart.🥂🖤🇨🇦
Bloody gorgeous indeed! ❤
Get it, "hanging out" 😂
I'm curious, how do you get rid of bat flies when they're a problem? Is it like fleas, where you can give em a bath and watch all the bugs float to the surface? Is it like headlice, where you use a comb? Or is it just down to trying to nab the nasties with your fingers?
We don't. They're endemic to the population and more prevalent during wet seasons.
They won't float off, and FFs don't like being bathed. They scuttle through the fur so you can't comb them out.
I pick out anything I can pinch and get out, but otherwise they keep on the bat.
@@Megabattie I get it, especially for those who are likely due for a prompt release. It is a little counterintuitive that it isn't a higher priority for bats with greater injuries... but I suppose if everything were that easy, we wouldn't need experts!
And yeah, I kind of imagined that as I wrote it - I can't imagine a wild bat being thrilled at being immersed.
But as you said, it's not like there aren't plenty more bat flies out there after release. It doesn't make sense to put a bat through substantial stress unless it's likely to do serious, lasting good.
@@circeciernova1712 If the bat was really badly injured, the injuries would still be more important than getting off the bat flies.
I'd get out anything I could but they're fast and they are really squirmy and can burrow in the fur.
Watching this video I was fascinated by the attention those people paid to you when you explained them something about the bat , here in Italy surely people would have been scared with a broom in their hands!! (terrible/!!!!)
Such a beautiful batty, is our Incu. I’m very happy to hear she’s a survivor, along with Freddi! Big sigh of relief! Well done Meg and Seamorn!
Meg, enjoy your well deserved holiday. I hope you come home feeling refreshed! ❤🦇❤️
🦇🤎🦇
❤️❤️❤️🦇🦇🦇
I’m so thankful that Inku/Inki and Freddi are survivors-YAY! That being said, I’ve gotta say, “Yikes!” It never occurred to me that their toes can be broken by those not properly trained in how to uncurl their toenails from whatever it is that they’re gripping onto! That sent a shiver of revulsion and shock through me, imagining a broken bat-foot, done by an ignorant MOP😢😭Then I got a wave of unexpected nausea! To think that a MOP trying to dislodge a Flying-Fox…
Traveling mercies to you, and I pray that your vacation is a wonderful and joyous one, dearly beloved Meg!
When traveling or just getting in a car for errands, I say, “Lord, don’t let me hit anyone or anything, and please don’t let anyone or anything hit me/us…it’s my prayer for you!
God bless us, every one
Their toenails are hooks, so if you pull on them they can't let go because they're hooks; even if they wanted to let go they simply can't.
Also while there is tension on their legs, they can't undo themselves even if they wanted to - the tension on their legs locks a tendon into place and it can only be unlocked by taking weight or tension off the leg.
Listening to the workers and you saying the name, I wonder if it's a play on words, for orders being "in queue."
It's in-coo rather than in-Q.
She was quiet because she was wary of all the very nice but slightly Goth looking MOPs.
Bats have an uneasy relationship with Goths
At least she chose somewhere air conditioned!
I would be so stoked if a bat was hanging out at work. Probably quit my job and beg Meg to let me assist or at least do the bat laundry and fruit cutting so she has more time doing being nurse doctor and Mum and fire department tree rescues.
I didn't know there was such a thing as bat flies.
Each species of bat has a slightly different species of bat flies.
Maybe battie was this office boss?

Question. 1i know you uusally give them paon meds but do you give highee doses to bats in rough shape ? Kinda a dumb questio .
The dose rate depends on how they are, and what their weight is. I have pretty good stuff for them, but if they have a fracture I can get better stuff from the vet, in patches.
