    For the downfall of 4590, it’s due to a Continental DC-10 which took off before the Air France Concorde. A piece of debris was on the runway which struck a tyre, and then the tyre struck the fuel tank, it ruptured and vented to the exhaust of the Hot after burning jet engines which caused a fire.
    You don’t have to be in a DC-10 to die.

    • @GreyJunkie24
      @GreyJunkie24 Год назад +6

      The tank was also overfull, causing a shockwave, the debris didn't pierce the tank but caused a shockwave bursting it like an over filled balloon. Furthermore it was overweight and one of the pilots shut down an engine (even though it was on fire, it still produced thrust). Therefore it got in the air but shortly fell down due to insufficient thrust.
      And the final nail was that air France backed out of their agreement, meaning all the maintenance was British which we could not afford causing the last commercial Concorde flight to happen on October 24th 2003.

    The Concorde crashed because of the DC-10 that took off before the Concorde. The reason is here:
    So a few minutes before the Concorde took off there was a DC-10 that took off on the same runway the Concorde did. But that isn’t really the reason it crashed. When the DC-10 took off, it left a piece of metal on the runway. So then the Concorde took off on the same runway. While the Concorde was taking off, it had a slight jerk to the left. That’s when the tire ran over the metal piece. The tire had bursted so hard that it impacted the left wing and made a dent in the wing. Where it made a dent is where fuel tank #5 was. Since the rubber from the tire impacted the wing so hard, it caused a fuel leak right by the hole it made in the landing gear. So there were wires sticking out while the jet fuel from tank #5 was gushing out. Then the wires ignited the the fuel so then there was a huge flame coming from the landing gear. So then the rubber from the tire and the gases from the fire went into the two engines #1 and #2. That caused a loss of thrust on engine #2. Eventually there was a engine failure on #2. When the Concorde was airborne the fire was melting the wing which then caused a °103 roll to the left. The air traffic control(ATC) gave clearance to turn back but it was already too late. The rolling had caused a loss of altitude. The cockpit alert went off,” Altitude,Altitude.””pull up!,pull up!”. The Concorde had then crashed into a nearby hotel.
    And that was the end of the Concorde.

    • @stancelife_
      @stancelife_ Год назад +2

    The Concorde crash, which happened in Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris (Air France 4590), was caused by a metal piece of debris that fell off from an engine of a McDonnell-Douglas DC-10 The Concorde just happened to run over the metal plate, causing the tyres on the landing gear to rupture and hit one of the many fuel tanks on the Concorde, also causing the fuel tank to rupture. Because of this, engine 1&2 went out in flames and caused the aeroplane to crash into the Hotelissimo hotel just near the airport. After the crash, the Concorde got stronger tyres & the runway was thoroughly cleaned of any debris after one aeroplane took off.

    The Concorde was actually very safe, opposite to what people thought, mainly due to 3 reasons:
    1) The multiple Tupolev Tu-144's crashes. The Tu-144 was a cheap copy of the Concorde made by the soviets in an effort to compete with western supersonic commercial flight. However, it was incredibly loud inside and outside its cabin and was also very unsafe, so it crashed a lot before getting retired. The Concorde had nothing to do with the Tu-144 other than flying supersonic, but, to the eyes of a not-very-informed person, both planes were equally unsafe... :(
    2) The Concorde's 2003 Paris accident - caused by a part left on the runway by a previously taken-off DC-10 (which was a very unsafe plane, but that's a different story). Once more, although merely unlucky, the Concorde seemed problematic to a not-very-informed person. :(
    3) The sonic boom and the engine noise. As mentioned in the video, the boom was a big problem for Concorde route-wise, but also concerning the people's opinion on the plane. If you were at sea or in eastern parts of the UK, you'd still hear the sonic boom relatively loud. As it is an annoying and somewhat scary sound, people would not enjoy it. Plus, the engine noise disturbed people who lived near airports, especially near Heathrow. Why? Unlike regular jets, the Concorde was equipped with afterburners, which give more power while spending a lot of fuel and making enormous noise. During takeoff, the Concorde would turn the afterburners on, therefore disturbing people on the ground. This did not help to build a positive opinion on Concorde... :(
    HOWEVER, the Concorde was not a failure and still remains an aviation marvel and icon.

    The crash of the Concorde (Air France 4590) was a fault of a metal strip from another aircraft which was a DC-10. The Concorde hit the metal strip at around 150-200moh and it burst a tire, the tire rubber pierced the fuel tank in the left wing. The tire also damaged the actual landing gear as well, meaning there would be sparks from wires in the aircraft tire which sparked a massive fire being fuelled by the tanks. This made Concorde start to melt. This affected flight controls and the crew were unable to climb out due to the engine power difference on the wings. Air France 4590 crashed into a hotel just 5km from the runway of Charles De Gaulle Airport. 100 passengers and 9 crew as well as 4 people in the hotel died, with another 6 people in the hotel seriously injured. Rest In Peace to the 113 people who passed away on June 25th, 2000. 🕊

    The Concorde: A Symbol of Innovation, Luxury, and SpeedThe Concorde stands as one of the most iconic and revolutionary aircraft in the history of aviation. Developed through a joint effort between France and the United Kingdom, this supersonic passenger airliner not only pushed the boundaries of engineering but also redefined the possibilities of commercial air travel.First envisioned in the late 1950s, the Concorde's development was a testament to the ambition and determination of its creators. Led by British Aerospace and France's Aerospatiale, the project aimed to produce an aircraft capable of flying at twice the speed of sound, reducing travel times across the Atlantic Ocean significantly. After years of rigorous testing and development, the Concorde made its maiden flight on March 2, 1969, marking a milestone in aviation history.One of the most striking features of the Concorde was its sleek and futuristic design. With its slender fuselage, delta-shaped wings, and distinctive drooping nose, the Concorde exuded an aura of sophistication and elegance. Inside, the aircraft was meticulously designed to provide unparalleled comfort and luxury to its passengers. From plush leather seats to gourmet meals served on fine china, traveling aboard the Concorde was an experience unlike any other.However, it was not just its aesthetics and opulence that set the Concorde apart. What truly made it revolutionary was its ability to fly at supersonic speeds. Capable of reaching Mach 2.04, or over 1,350 miles per hour, the Concorde could whisk passengers from London to New York in just under three and a half hours, less than half the time of conventional subsonic aircraft. This unparalleled speed made the Concorde the preferred choice for the elite and time-sensitive travelers who valued efficiency and convenience above all else.Despite its groundbreaking technology and unparalleled performance, the Concorde faced numerous challenges throughout its operational lifespan. High operating costs, limited seating capacity, and environmental concerns, particularly regarding noise and emissions, all contributed to its eventual demise. Additionally, the tragic crash of Air France Flight 4590 in 2000, which resulted in the loss of all 109 passengers and crew onboard, dealt a significant blow to the Concorde's reputation and viability.On October 24, 2003, after 27 years of service, the Concorde made its final commercial flight, marking the end of an era in aviation. Although its retirement was met with sadness and nostalgia by many, the Concorde's legacy lives on as a symbol of innovation, luxury, and speed. Its groundbreaking technology and iconic design continue to inspire future generations of engineers, designers, and aviation enthusiasts, reminding us of the boundless possibilities that can be achieved through human ingenuity and perseverance.

    Some things I have to say about Concordes failure; 1 Whilst flight 4590 was Concordes only crash and other planes have had more, it was well known and caused Concorde lots of problems 2 Too little demand.There wasn’t any demand for supersonic airliners when it released, and little people wanted it. 3 It guzzled fuel like a greedy alcoholic and was very expensive to run. 4 it made little profit,and couldn’t really pay for itself near the end of its career. Like every machine, Concorde had its flaws, and will be dearly missed.

    Concorde has an almost perfect safety record. One hull loss out of all aircraft built. 5% only slightly worse than the Princess of the skies (Concorde is the Queen) the 747s 4% hull loss rate and that’s 61 out of over 1500 compared to 1oit of 20

    this is partially true. the main reason was that because the concorde had to take off at 402 kmh, the tires were much more vulnerable. this means, that theres a remotely high chance that the tire would explode off both pressure and wear, so pieces of tire could fly up into the wings, where most of the gas tanks were allocated. this could lead to a gas leak, which is fatal because it would get sucked into the jets of the concorde

    Tuplev TU144 flew before concorde. It was nicknamed concrodski because it looked very similar and was based of stolen technical drawings for concode. The TU144 did have a bit of a habit of crashing and iirc remained in passenger service for around 1 year.

    The concorde crash has nothing to do about how it failed. If anything it had one of the safest safety records of any aircraft. Out of 27 years of service it only crashed once. That is insanley good. The real reason as to why the concorde was retired was because the planes were getting old and they werent being produced anymore not because of fuel costs or capacity, but that the SST is a failed concept. The fact that it managed to go until '03 is incredible. Even without the crash or 9/11.

    It is worth mentioning that the Concorde was not the first supersonic commercial airliner, and neither was the Tu-144. The first supersonic airliner was a Douglas DC-8 which broke the sound barrier during a test flight on August 21, 1961, 7 years before the first flight of the Tu-144.
    The Concorde isn't even the first purpose built supersonic airliner as the Tu-144 was rushed through production and beat the Concorde to the skies by 2 months.

    You could contribute many reasons that the Concorde was retired, one would be it's aging fleet, another would be costs like maintenance, fuel, the fact that every flight was losing money, one would might be the major decrease in international flights after 9/11, what ever it is, it's gonna come down to costs and timing with Concorde

    pretty sure the tu144 beat the concorde by months, that plane did in fact have structural issues if it moved to quickly (i.e. fighter jet sorta moves). also the af4590 crash didnt mean the service would end, it was just a freak accident. the concordes' operating costs were getting very expensive due to limited fuel if i am not mistaken.

    if yall are wondering what happened and why the engine go kabbom by a metal thing. previously. a DC 10 left before the accident it left a metal peice in the runway. during the take off. the metal hitted the Conrcorde Tire Which Blew the tire and the rubber. a peice of rubber blew off the tire which hitts the engine full speed as heck it created a presure wave across the wing so strong that it hit the Fuel Engine which caused the fuel to leak out which caused a wire spark yall know what happens. (spark+fuel=kaboom) then eventually stalled and crashing in the Hotel Killing all passengers and 3 deaths in he hotel i think and the rest is history. (rip)

    Alright heres a long text on how the concorde was actually very successful. I'm surprised if anyone reads the whole thing.
    The concorde didn't fail, it beat the tu-144 and boeing 2707. When it entered service they didn't gain money by using it so It would be obvious that It would fail but the passengers said they thought it would be way more expensive then it really was so they thought "why not just charge them what they think we are gonna charge". And just like that concorde was a money making machine. They also gave passengers exclusive posters and gifts that showed that they flew with the concorde, so everyone wanted to try the supersonic plane. Not just that it would get them across the atlantic in 3 hours, but just so they could be in this magnificent plane. It was very luxurious to fly it as you would get tons of champagne, alot of delicious food and of course the supersonic flight itself. So they also started charter flights with the concorde that they would just. fly around for an hour and then land back just so passenger could experience the aircraft.
    But of course then it crashed which wasn't even their fault, but they got grounded anyways. After some upgrades to the fuel tanks and tires they were to do a test flight to see if it was airworthy which it went perfectly. But that test flight was done on September 11 2001 so then right after that great flight the attacks on 9 11 happened which made everyone afraid of flying and concorde that everyone thought was gonna make a huge comeback in 2001 got retired in 2003.
