    The blue methane flames in the road is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Makes me wish I had the time and money to go see this event first hand. Stay safe Hawaii and god bless

    Could you guys release an activity or volume line graph of each fissure and the crater's activity over time since this eruption first began with a different color line for each fissure and the cone? It is so hard to see the overall activity of this eruption because all we see are the buzz videos with whatever big thing is happening that day. It would be helpful for all to see the rise and fall of activity as a whole. Thanks.

    "Rift zone is widening." Doesn't that mean that the Hilina slump might become more than just a slump given that there's little holding the south side of the rift zone to the north side?

    There is a fracking plant next to the vents, are they responsible for causing this?
    I know lava is not a result of the fracking, but what I mean is did they open up vents that would have not opened if they were not fracking.

    There's something bittersweet about this kind of natural disaster. People are displaced and have lost their property, but there is no danger to life as long as people exercise common sense. And the end result is ultimately a gain. Hawaii is literally growing.

    I am very curious about one scene in the video. It shows two troops and a couple civilians standing on a road. The mountain of lava looks to be 20 to 30 feet deep. Can you give us some details on just how high this wall of lava is? This is an amazing view.

      They cannot reach the power plant. Access has been cut off by the lava. Lava will eventually cover it and burn it to the ground and the water will evaporate. when that happens nothing different than what is happening now will occur.

    I wonder about septic tanks and cess pools. Those are basically methane pockets trapped under ground. Now that the houses have burnt they no longer vent it into the air through the roof vents.

      I think the USGS person may be wrong, the blue flames might not be methane but sulfur burning. Sulfur burns with a blue flame. Also, the burning flames leave a yellow residue of sulfur. Here's the cracks a few days ago with sulfur along the cracks...

      I understand gases released by volcanic activity I live Molokai Hawaii. Just brought it up because it was said, pockets of methane from burnt trees if trapped could cause explosions. Septic tanks and cess pools are basically bio digesters that produce methane and release it through plumbing vents. If the vents and leach field are sealed by lava you have a digester with no way of emitting gas...= underground bomb. So thanks for schooling me on who knows what else.

      I think the USGS person was wrong, the blue flames are burning sulfur. The cracks have sulfur residues in daylight, and sulfur burns with a blue flame. It's not the first time blue sulfur burning lava has been spotted. Here's a guy who visited the road where the blue flames were seen a few days ago, the cracks were lined with sulfur deposits.

      Darrell Grisham
      Actually a lava flow on your property doesn’t relieve property taxes. You still own your property, even if you can’t get to it.
      I don’t think you’ll find a mortgage company that took a loan on volcano homes. Cash only. (So I’ve been told)

    • @Bottlekap
      @Bottlekap 6 лет назад +5

      Trainfan1055 there are Mouna Loa rift zones that could effect any part of the island depending which becomes active. Building on the leeward side doesn’t really promise anything.
      People of Hawaii know this though. There are VERY few people who live big island that just magically didn’t think about the fact they live on a volcanically active island.

    All that lava is creating a massive ledge and heavy and is prone to fall into the sea. When combined with an underground low pressure pull of Puna into the sea by a larger eruption at Kīlauea then it will happen and fall or get pulled into the sea.
