      All the Ottoman subjects including the Christian Armenians, Greeks, Coptics as well as the Muslims dressed like that. It was basically a Western suit with a fez (the cylindrical hat).

    This was a good video. I liked how you blended Islamic history into a video about western fashion. That was a nice touch. Also I liked how you talked about early British people who embraced Islam. You should do some videos on each of them. Also since you look like Quilliam, you could do a video like this one on his life.

    Actually there is a true Victorian Ottoman coat called ‘İstanbulin’
    You can find it on photographs of the period mostly taken in Istanbul

    As a Turk who is interested in history, I knew during Ottoman time attire depended on one's religion, place they live and their social class. But I would never have thought there was a time that what a classic İstanbul gentleman wears is same as a British Muslim gentleman. Very interesting.

    Dr William, you have put to video, what I have always wanted !!! All British Muslims should really dress up. Historically the Muslims of the Ottoman , Mughal and Persian empires dressed up to the MAX 😅, with beautiful elaborate costumes !! We should revive this practice!! Im tired & sad of young Muslims attending Friday prayers in their tracksuit pants 😢 !!

    It's interesting learning about the Islamic side of the Victorian era, and the Brits who converted to Islam. I feel like this is a forgotten part of British heritage with the likes of Britain First and EDL.

    At Malaysia, we, Malaysians still keeping our beautiful Traditional Muslim clothes. Africans also did that as well. It's pretty sad to see there are many Arabs lacks of this. I mean most westerners mistaken of Muslims' clothes! They thought Muslims lacks of fashions.

      @@pokemontrainerneville5236 I've worn mine since 2014 regularly and so far it's been pretty solid. I've had modern t-shirts and shirts completely worn out in a few months. However I haven't done any outdoor or manual work in them!

    Victorian and pre world War 20th century fashion were the last bastion of rich, quality fashion. Nowadays fashion is reduced to an infatuation with quantity and the fashion itself has a grotesque monoculture, no richness - made for everyone, yet for no one!

    That Fez was originally Tunisian under name Shashia which the Andalusian immigrants created and improved later and had differen forms such the long one which called İstanbulli and the original one called Shashia that şis still ısed in Tunisia libya and Nigeria and produced in Tunisia and the istubulli styşe spread in the east . the shashia liek is still used by greek traditional soldier that blue one

    Are you holding the Quran upside down in an attempt to read it from left to right, which you wouldn't be able to if you had held it upright because arabic is from right to left?

      @@zohaybkhan it's possible early Victorians didn't know Arabic and misunderstood when told to read "the other way round"
