As does Margo Channings party dress in All About Eve, allowing Bette Davis to use them and the dress to emphasise Margos’ emotional condition and general character. I remember reading that Margo was the ‘kind of woman, who would throw a mink on the floor’, and perhaps the kind who would treat a beautiful cocktail dress like a workman’s overall?!

I adore Carol Burnett, but I really don't like that almost every mention of Scarlett's curtain dress HAS to also mention the parody. It's not just this video, but lots of other places. I am a huge GWTW devotee (mainly the novel) and the constant attention to Burnett's parody shifts the true meaning too much for my taste...but that's probably because I am born & raised in Georgia and know how truly horrible Reconstruction was, especially on the women.

Not just the show-stopper dresses from the ball or the races, but the green dress she wears while being made to ¨say her letters¨ and others like the gorgeous dress she wears while singing ¨Show Me¨ to Freddie, the young chap who ¨sniggered¨ at her. The construction of the latter was pure genius in the way it was constructed to work with Hepburn´s very slight figure. I need that designer in my closet!

My Mom had several of Edith’s dresses. Unfortunately, without our knowledge, she took various gowns to places like DRESS FOR SUCCESS thinking it was a good thing to do. Several French designer gowns disappeared, as well. Her designer purses are all gone. An incredible diamond necklace is missing, too. She has no idea where it went. Dementia is a very sneaky disease. This retired NYC fashion illustrator who also studied fashion /costume design and the history of costume found this most interesting. You filled me in on some info I didn't know! Sad that the late great Debbie Reynold's wasn't able to fully realize her dream of a Hollywood museum that preserved the past history of the Golden Age of Hollywood and these great historic costumes. She only did so for a short time before she passed away. I once saw a great exhibition which was actually the very first exhibition of the Costume Institute at the MET in NYC around 50 years ago, "Hollywood Costumes" and saw many other fabulous costumes worn by the late greats Greta Garbo, Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe plus many others. Unfortunately, many who buy these historic Hollywood costumes at auction for millions of dollars also do it for buying bragging rights! I would rather see them all on display at museums so all can see them and appreciate them! Thanks for sharing~

Hi Brenda, Thank you so much for your comment. 😁 It's lovely to hear your experiences.
I didn't mention it in the video, but I had read that Debbie Reynolds late husband has saddled her with great debt without her knowledge. It took her 10 years working in Vegas to get back into the black. I suspect it might have been one of the reasons that she had to auction off her vast collection. 😁

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned the Schiaparelli-inspired fuscia gown Marilyn M wore in Gentleman prefer blondes. It's been referenced hundreds of times in pop culture; even James Franco wore a version of it at the Ocscars. On a side note : in the early 1990's at Bloomingdales in Manhattan - there was a Hollywood themed exhibit of original gowns. I was blown away by the tiger striped gown Marilyn wore in the Rachmaninoff sequence. in person on a mannequin - and on film it was jaw dropping.

My favorite dress from that movie was the pink and white gown Hepburn worn.
