Hi Gil, I’m from the UK and have just bought my first laser engraver - the SCULPFUN S30 Pro Max I’m really pleased to have found your site and hoping to learn lots from your tutorials - as this is me starting out for the first time 👍🏼😊
Hi Derek! Fantastic to hear that you've started your journey with the SCULPFUN S30 Pro Max. I'm happy that you've found my site helpful. As you embark on this exciting venture, remember that practice and experimentation are key. You'll find a range of tutorials on my channel that will help you master the basics and exploreyour new engraver. If you ever have any specific questions or need guidance on a particular aspect, feel free to ask. What's the first project you're planning to work on with your new engraver? 🌟🔧
Hey Steve! There are many ways to get to the same result, but for me the correct way is getting the result you want and being safe while doing it. Love it if you could let me know what you are creating with your laser. Always interested in what people make!
Hi Anne! Thank you for the feedback and I am so happy that this tutorial was able to help you on your laser journey. What are you planing to make with your laser?
G'Day Gil, I'm from Western Australia & I'm very new to lasers. Recently I purchased a Creality Falcon CR 10W laser unit & now I'm in the process of trying to find out what settings I need to have set in Lightburn to be able to engrave on stainless steel & Aluminum. I am hopefully going to work out about how to place the keyring (or other items) in the right location to be able to engrave it the right place. Fingers crossed I will find a tutorial to help me with this. I really enjoyed watching your tutorial & I look forward to watching & learning more. 😃
Hi Sharon, Engraving on stainless steel and aluminum with your Creality Falcon CR 10W requires experimenting with power, speed, and frequency settings in LightBurn, and using the 'Preview' feature for accurate positioning. Start with lower settings and adjust based on your results, and consider using jigs for consistent placement of items like keyrings. What projects are you planning to work on with your new laser unit?

*You tell 'em Gill!* It is SO important to do this test on a sacrificial piece of of every material you work with! Get them swatches done! Good to see real information....
even then people still need to put some time in with their own machine and wood....same wood from the same pile does not always end with same results.....And thanks to you as well for your informative vids !!!!
Hi Steve! Thanks for the feedback, it means alot to know that this tutorial was able to help you on your laser journey. What are you planing to make with your laser?
Hi Pam! So happy that this tutorial was able to help you on your laser journey. Lightburn is great, I love the flexibility and control it allows me to work with my laser! What are you planing to make with your laser?
You know what? I've always hated people writing on the tabs of folders, or even trying to print the labels and watching them fall off. What an awesome way to make everything look uniform and permanent. Thank you. One of my lasers now has a new life purpose. I own 3. A 10 Watt Ortur, a 20 Watt FoxAlien, and very soon, it's on order, is an OmTech 60 Watt CO2. The Ortur is my enemy, the FoxAlien isn't well made. The Ortur may become my new label maker for file folders.
That's a great idea David! I use the folders cause they are fast and cheap. They also don't have a lot of latitude if you make a mistake, so if you can master the test on a folder, you will almost always get a better result on the material your using!
Hi Brad! So happy that this tutorial was able to help you on your laser journey. Are you using your laser to help you in your guitar creation? Interested in how your laser might be helping you. Please let me know! :)

Hi. I do bottle engraving at my job. " wine and bubbly" ' Sadly i rarely get to use the machine since its not popular right now. This video was very helpful. I'm always having issues with light engraving on smaller text fonts.
2 question's if you will. 1, what wattage of lazer was you using that it didn't fry all that paper? And 2 i have seen lots of reviews on all the brands of lasers and all but one person does there tests up to 100 percent power . The reason I asked is because I have read from the manufacturer not to use 100 percent power because it weakness the lazer fast so why not stop the test at 80 or 90 percent power And I want to thank you very much for your time and effort you put into your videos and I will subscribe. Thank you again.
Welcome aboard. Glad you found us. Try to answer your questions. 1. I use mainly a 5-watt and 10-watt laser for my tutorials. Power is not the issue when cutting paper, but speed, power and focus. Understand how to get the correct settings, and you can cut paper with a 100-watt laser without burning it up. 2. There is a lot of information around, and the 100% power subject is one that always gets comments :) Ultimately, I'm sharing what works for me; use as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Laser sources are consumable, and while you want to get the most out of them, heat and cooling are critical to getting the most out of your sources. Many people who run CO2 lasers won't go past 80%; diode laser users hear this and adopted the same practice. In the end, my experience is you get what you pay for. If your laser has a well-designed cooling system for its laser source, there is no reason why you can not use your laser at 100% with the proper settings (this tutorial is one way to work out what works with your laser specs) and get to your next job quicker. That shared, always do what you are comfortable with, and if that's not passing 80% on your power setting, that is OK with me. 👍 In the end, be safe, make something amazing and have fun.
@@LaserLivestream thank you again. I'm hoping to get a Lazer late November or early December and I watch all that I can about each brand and power and in hopes to find what's right for me. I just came across your channel, so thankful for it! I recently purchased an 80watt co2 OMTech laser. It came with a chart of cut settings for different material. But I have come to see that it’s not very descriptive. So from what I’m getting from the video is you test this pattern on each material. So now if you want that certain shade on material you enter in that percent and remain at the speed correct? And lastly, is there a video on locating placement of material on laser bed without wasting so much time guessing and moving laser to material and running frame option a hundred times?
Hi Dianne, glad you found us. I personally always test the martial I use. Every settings chart should be used as a place to start when working out your settings. After all, not all materials are created equal. Run the test that gives you the best shading range and use those setting when running your engraving job. As for working out placement, keep your eyes on the channel, we will have something coming soon. :) Also, join us on the Facebook group! Link is in the description.
Hey Gil, Ant here from New Zealand .Excited to get into laser I have been doing 3d printing for a few years and tried cnc routeing .But seem to have problem after problem.I also bought a laser for my cnc but could not get it to work. So Here I am all new to this but very excited .Have yet to pick a printer. I have a few in mined .leaning toward a Sculpsun s9 over a Ortur 2 pro. Just for the price
Hey Anthony, sounds like you are just starting out on a very fun journey. Not sure what laser you attached to on your CNC, but I would look at your laser focus as a place to start. Let me know what laser you choose to purchase. Love to see some of your projects! 👍
Been looking for a video with a chart like this! Thanks I subbed and tomorrow after work will be testing it on my new Atomstack P9 M50 10W diode laser. This is my first laser engraver and looking forward to learning as much as I can. PS: I see you got your filament dryer back there lol

@@LaserLivestream hey so how would one change the settings for it to test actual Cutting of the material? I'd assume the speeds are way lower and it would be set to the Line setting and not fill? If you have one made I'd appreciate the files for it! Edit: i also see you had Overscanning enabled on one of the layers but not the others? The same goes for Fill all shapes at once and fill all shapes individually. could those selections change up your results?
Hello Gil I love the videos, they help me a lot. Do you find that there is a difference in the laser tips, like the red versus the blue that comes with the rotor tool.? Thanks again
I have found a difference in different types of lasers (c02/diode/galvo) but not so much when it comes to colours. Power will definitely make a huge difference. What are you using?
Great question. I don't know what laser you are using (Co2/Diode) or what model you are running. While you are correct that if you run your laser at 100% will push your laser components harder than what you would like, the companies that I have worked with actually set their default under 100%. So it's totally your choice. You can set your power to less than 100% if you want, or do so. Either way, your laser source is consumable and over time, it will lose output power. I always try to show my method and ideas, including the mistakes that are commonly made when learning a new process. Let me know if that makes sense :)
Hi Rick... Great question. I will have to pull up the file to check my X feed rate, but I believe it was around 350 for the card stock I was using. Let me know if that helped :)
HiNeil! So happy that this tutorial was able to help you on your laser journey. I used a 5watt Emblaser diode laser from Darkly Labs for my tutorials, but the results I achieve can be found by following the workflow. What are you planing to make with your laser?
What is the laser power required to engrave using the Norton method. My blue laser has a maximum laser output of 1.8 watts. Tried running it at max power and various speeds but no success. Maybe i need a 5 watt laser.
Have you run the engrave test used in the tutorial? I suggest that if you are not getting a result, check your laser focus. If that doesn't improve your results, try slowing down the speed in increments till you start seeing the engraving. Let me know how you go! You should be able to get a result even with your 1.8 watt laser. Worst case, you may need a second pass!
To prevent dark edges in raster engraving with LightBurn, use the 'Overscanning' feature. This allows the laser to move past the image's edges before changing direction, turning off the laser momentarily to avoid excess burning. Adjust the overscan percentage in the 'Cut Settings Editor' under your image layer settings. A good starting point is around 5-10% of the image's width, but you may need to experiment to find the perfect balance for your specific laser. Have you tried adjusting the overscan settings before, and how did it affect your engraving results?
Hi....I'm just starting out. I can't seem to get my images to appear. It's so light. Can you please let me know what I'm doing wrong with the power and speed?
I don’t know what type of laser you have, but i would start by slowing down your speed and seeing what happens. Try dropping the speed 25% but keep an eye on your material, you don’t want to start a fire. If your engraving is still light, check your focus. Let me know how you go…
Welcome abaord. Great to meet you Chris. What do you make with your laser? Feel free to join the Facebook group so you can share your projects with us! Details are in the video description!
Lightburn takes the image and based on the darkness of the pixels, regulates the power directly to the laser as it scans the image across. Your set it up, and Lightburn does the heavy lifting! :) Let us know how it turns out!
The experience I have had with most laser I have worked with is that even if you run the laser at 100%, they have a hardware limit under 100% to protect the tube or the diode. Always putting in an extra factor doesn't hurt if you want to be extra safe!
Depends on many things that we do not know. What laser wattage do you have. What specific laser module do you have. What batch of clear acrylic did you receive? Materials do not always act the same from batch to batch. Just because you have a 10W laser, does not mean someone else's 10W laser will act the same because of laser spot size, focus, laser spot shape, etc. Maaaany factors
Great question Guillaume. For me it is a personal choice but I find that by turning off air assist, the particles of paint are not blown all over my laser meaning I need to clean it more often. As the tile is not being cut, air assist is not really needed. It wont hurt to have it on, but I choose not to use it with when engraving a tile. Hope that explains my thinking. What do you use your laser to make!
@@LaserLivestream Thanks for the feed back ! I get it. I'm mainly use my laser to build present for the one I love. Mainly with plywood, and some ceramic tiles too. Thanks for your clear tutorial !
is there a place to download a settings library for basic settings for each material that i could save into light burn? then adjust to my laser I have a c02 100 watt laser

Hello, I am new to all this cause I am disabled and stuck at home so I chose engraving because I really enjoy working with wood and since I am limited to what I can do I really would love to learn as much as I can, it has been frustrating for me because I downloaded LaserGRBL and was having alot of problems with adjusting pictures and photos and so I downloaded Laserburn to see if it would help me alot better and easier? I am doing this to make a little extra money since my medications and my disability id not as cheap as one would think with the help of my SS and Medicare lol. I will take all and any advice you recommend to me and I already followed you my friend so thank you very much, and I really could use your help in anything you can help me in understanding and troubleshooting any of my problems I come across. Thank you @waltermartingloor What a nice thing to wake up too. Stay safe using your laser and come back and share your results! 👍
Hello from the South Bay!

Hi from NH
Hello Gill. From Denmark herr
Big hello right back at your from Melbourne Australia! What are you planing to make with your laser?
Hi great vid lots to learn, thank you for a good insight.
My pleasure Bob. Im curious what you create with your laser?
HELLO THERE tks for the information
Hi new subscriber looking forward
To learning new skills 😌
Great to have you aboard Pod man. What do you make with your laser?
I'm having trouble in engraving my ar magazine it just makes lines I can't figure out how to engrave on it
Hi Gil!
Hi Kevin! What are you planing to make with your laser today?
Darling, I love what you are doing. =) Thanks for helping us all keep our lasers and lightsabers pointed in the right direction
Thank you.... I think!!! 🤔 😎
I have heard that running at 100% will degrade your laser too fast. What’s your view? Love your videos!
@@LaserLivestream absolutely helps! Thanks!
Great, 100% and 2000mm/min on my A10 pro works best on oak.
Hi Gill thanks for the video can I ask what is your $130 set at
Hi Rick... Great question. I will have to pull up the file to check my X feed rate, but I believe it was around 350 for the card stock I was using.
Let me know if that helped :)
Thanks for this tutorial. What strength laser are you using for these projects?
HiNeil! So happy that this tutorial was able to help you on your laser journey. I used a 5watt Emblaser diode laser from Darkly Labs for my tutorials, but the results I achieve can be found by following the workflow. What are you planing to make with your laser?
Do you have an example for engraving silver
What is the laser power required to engrave using the Norton method. My blue laser has a maximum laser output of 1.8 watts. Tried running it at max power and various speeds but no success. Maybe i need a 5 watt laser.
Have you run the engrave test used in the tutorial? I suggest that if you are not getting a result, check your laser focus. If that doesn't improve your results, try slowing down the speed in increments till you start seeing the engraving.
Let me know how you go! You should be able to get a result even with your 1.8 watt laser. Worst case, you may need a second pass!
How can we engrave "String Art" on laser machine
When I do a raster image, th edges burn too dark. How can I turn the laser off when it changes direction? Thanks!!
Hi Gil, just starting out
Great to have you starting your journey. What are you planning to make with your new laser?
Hi....I'm just starting out. I can't seem to get my images to appear. It's so light. Can you please let me know what I'm doing wrong with the power and speed?
I don’t know what type of laser you have, but i would start by slowing down your speed and seeing what happens. Try dropping the speed 25% but keep an eye on your material, you don’t want to start a fire.
If your engraving is still light, check your focus.
Let me know how you go…
Hi there first time viewer.
Welcome abaord. Great to meet you Chris.
What do you make with your laser?
Feel free to join the Facebook group so you can share your projects with us! Details are in the video description!
You set the speed to 100% How does it know to start at 5% and increase from there? I’m new at this!
Lightburn takes the image and based on the darkness of the pixels, regulates the power directly to the laser as it scans the image across.
Your set it up, and Lightburn does the heavy lifting! :)
Let us know how it turns out!
Hi and help, newbie here how does a person set up macros? Please
Hi Gil, I am new to all this, I want to engrave on metal and wood, have you video's that could help me with the settings etc ? x
I'm confused, one of the tips I read is never run the laser at 100% power that it will shorten the life of the laser tube, is this not true?
The experience I have had with most laser I have worked with is that even if you run the laser at 100%, they have a hardware limit under 100% to protect the tube or the diode.
Always putting in an extra factor doesn't hurt if you want to be extra safe!
Hello, Salem SC
Hi ty
Why is air assist off?
Where on malcom in the middle?
what would be the best settings for laser engravings on clear acrylic engraving football players on them and logos?
Depends on many things that we do not know. What laser wattage do you have. What specific laser module do you have. What batch of clear acrylic did you receive? Materials do not always act the same from batch to batch. Just because you have a 10W laser, does not mean someone else's 10W laser will act the same because of laser spot size, focus, laser spot shape, etc. Maaaany factors
Hi ! thanks for the video. Why do you turn off the air assist, I assume it always help ?
Hello. I just got my sculpfun S9 engraver. Would appreciate any tips to help me get started.
Hi Gil
Hi Frank. Thanks for joining us!! What do you make with your laser?
But does that chart work on all materials? I’m trying to figure out a good way to know what settings to use to engrave vs cut on different materials
is there a place to download a settings library for basic settings for each material that i could save into light burn? then adjust to my laser I have a c02 100 watt laser
Let me see what I can find. I'll also see what I can put together for you. Till then, I have this tutorial that walks you through how to make your own martial library in Lightburn. what ar are you using your laser to make? Helps when setting out a library :)
Both 2000mm tests 80% & 100% have air assist ON which throws off the results tho.
Why would you use air assist or when not ?
Gil, I'm trying to put a logo on ceramic tiles I can't get Lightburn to connect to my Ortur laser master 2.
Discuss connecting Lightburn to Ortur laser machines in this video - ruclips.net/video/3fOo8SDi_Ow/видео.html
Seems like we are on the same page!!!
Good to hear David. What do you use your laser to make after engravings?
Hello Gil
God Bless you and your family always. Your friend always, John Garza
Hi SJohn,
Glad you found us. Laser cutting can be a fun and exciting tool to learn and use. Looking forward to seeing what you create with your laser. :)
Hi I am a beginner and am trying to photo engrave VegTan Leather
Very nice. Love to see your results. Glad you found us :)
Actually not making anything...I just received the laser (Sculpfun S9) unpacked it and put it together and trying to learn Lightburn. I'm having a bit of issues with the fonts. When I burn a word the lines are a bit squiggly - any suggestions? The images are fine though!
Hi Kostantino, welcome aboard.
My first guess without seeing your machine would be to check the tension on the belts.
Let me know if you solved the issue and did to get the fonts working! You are going to have fun with your laser! :)
Hi Gill, Love your videos , i have just run this as you have explained but my results are not quite the same, im getting banding or lined in my engraving, what do you think would cause this please
Hey Gary, Could be a number of things. Firstly, what laser are you running?
found it!
Awesome. How did it turn out?
How do I download file that has the circular setting guide you talked about
