In this video, I'm going to show you how to trace your own artwork using Lightburn. There are a lot of great advantages to using LightBurn over other software when it comes to vector tracing and getting Lightburn to trace images.
Vector tracing is more accurate than other methods because the software within Lightburn is designed specifically for vector graphics - It can trace any type of image, not just photos and you don't need an expensive license or secondary piece of software like Adobe products to get great results.
I'll also show you some shortcuts and tricks that will make things easier for you and finish with a product you can create yourself when practising these techniques using Lightburn to trace images.

Thanks. Very informative. I have found tracing in Lightburn is easier and sometimes better than in dedicated graphic programs.

Hey Gil, just found your channel. i have been lasering for about 10 months and absolutely love it. This video fits in perfectly with a project im trying to do. I have a customer that hand drew some art work and i just can not seem to get it cleaned up. This video seems to be the ticket for cleaning up the image. The image has a million nodes. I 'm going to ty this today and see if i can get it cleaned up. Thank you or your videos. Jim in Idaho USA

When I try to insert or copy+paste image or clipart, the image is gray! What am I doing wrong?

Hey man, you could show us how to make it multilayered from what you created. That would be amazing.
Hey Gil, just learning and trying to bring in images. I dont understand all the different types of files such as png or svg etc. I only use lightburn on the Otur lasermaster 20w. when trying to copy an image from the internet, what files should I be looking for or which is a better file type. thank you for a great video. The comments are also informative.
File types like JPG and PNG are raster image files (made up of little pixels). SVG is a vector image file (made up of lines). If you want to make trace like the tutorial, look for high-resolution JPG or PNG files. Sometimes they are compressed for placement on the WWW, so look for large files when you do a google search (You can choose "Large" files on the search options).
If you can find an SVG file,. use that as you can scale it up and down without having to trace the image. In fact, running a trace turns your image into a vector, just like an SVG!

Running macOS using supplied cable using an USB-A to USB-C adapter. Xtool D1 10 w
The only software that connects is XTool Creative Space. It runs on this software.
I am unable to get so lightburn or laser box software to discover D1. Kind of weird seeing how laser box and creative space is the same developer. I think. any help would be appreciated.

I would love to see a video of the process, rather than a history or i like doing it this way. Short to the point.
can you do a trace say of a fish for an engraving and set it to cut the perimeter of the fish . so you will then have a fish shape as your picture and the body is laser engraved. I'm sure there is a way to do this if so can you show us please.Thank you so much.
You can ungroup everything and then select the out line of shape that you want to cut. Once that is selected, you select the setting to cut. Everything else should remain as engrave. Once that's done, you select all and group again.
Very nice, what font did you use for the logo?
I believe that one is called NASA... I like it as it emulates the old NASA worm font used in the 70's... :)
Idk if this works on mac but if you click and hold the middle button. "scroll wheel" you can move across the grid instead of zooming out then back in.
Great tip, I will try it the next time. Don't tell anyone, but when I make my tutorials, all my USB ports are taken up and I actually use mt trackpad. I'll see if your tip translates to the trackpad as well. Thank you 🙏

Can you tell me how to engrave an image and cut the design uit after engraving it ?
Hi Emiel, I think I know what your asking, but if this is not what your looking for, let me know. You can put a border around your image using the offset tools in Lightburn, or manually create one using the shape tools. Then cut the border on a seperate layer set to cut. Let me know how that works out!

Does LightBurn accept SVG files from CorelDraw or AI?
Yes, LightBurn does accept SVG files, which means you can use SVG files created in CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator (AI). Just save your designs in these programs as SVG files, and then you can import them directly into LightBurn for your laser projects. What are you planning to work on that involves designs from CorelDraw or AI? 🎨🖌️💻
at 12.41 of the video you removed the outer layer - what command did you use.
At that time mark, I did not remove anything from the logo on the workbench, what I did was centre the work area by hitting Zoom to Page (Ctrl + O).

Gil, good presentation. I hate to say this because it is so picky, but if you would turn off the traverse lines on the preview it would be easier to see the end product. Also all those scan lines tell me you are not using the "Fill shapes individually" function on the cut settings editor. By using that function you can save a lot of burning time. I don't mean to be critical, just trying to help out.
Not a problem at all. I will be covering those features in a future video, just wanted to create what someone would experience “out of the box” 📦 :)

Il tipo di tracciatura eseguita da Lightburn crea la doppia linea. Si desidera utilizzare il tracciamento della linea centrale, disponibile in Adobe Illustrator o Inkspace.
Ho avuto lo stesso problema con alcuni dei tracciati che ho fatto. Ho usato Inkspace per creare il vettore di cui avevo bisogno. Spero che sia d'aiuto.
