As someone who’s best friend died at 25, aging is a privilege and blessing. I welcome every grey hair, every fine line, every wrinkle. There was literally a dude in the video so that's not true. Women also tend to get a lot more hung up over their appearance (and before you blame this on men, an enormous amount of the people talking about and commenting on this trend are all women/girls). Men are held to a lot of unfair beauty standards too, such as height.
Honestly I just hate ageism, born 1996 and my coworkers how are born just 3 years after me say I'm old this, old that. Like at this point ya I'm pushing 30 not the nursing home 💓⏲️
I think women believe men won’t find them attractive anymore if they’re “older” which is why women are so obsessed with looking young But I think this is true. @@nachgeben not everywhere. aging was once rare. people only lived so long, many cultures would praise the old. it was majorly northern Europe and Asia that had stricter standards of beauty for women. when colonization began these standards spread and stuck. i mean there are many people still today who find older women attractive. its just mainstream advertising that shoves this standard down our throats and makes people believe there is no value in becoming old.
There's still a sort of ethereal elegance and wisdom associated with old age sort of that is seperated from attractiveness. I never comment but a lot of this is a sweeping generalization for people who are chronically online as well as those that have created an algorithm that produces these results. I never see things like this on TikTok. I actually think my feed is generally positive and shows a lot kind millennials proud of where they are at living their best lives, aging gracefully, and staying respectful of others. It’s unfortunate that people get pigeonholed into a negative feedback cycle on TikTok that gives an inaccurate view of the world and the way that the majority people (yes including millennials) actually think.
I think these platforms in general bring out the worst in us. People said the same thing about Facebook, and if it weren't Facebook or Tiktok, it would be something else. Folks have a lot of inner work to do.
It’s every social media at this point. The comments I’ve read on Instagram reels has shown me everything I need to know about how viscous an average person is when they’re behind the screen.
This- filler makes young people look a lot older! It stretches skin, especially when you get it so young and keep doing it over and over again. It weakens the facial muscles. These “anti-aging” things that we’re getting young are ruining our faces.
That’s where my brain went. All the fillers and the fake eyelashes and such are things we’re used to seeing on older women, not young people. It’s the cosmetic procedures that throw me off the most though.
I'm a millennial and I don't personally know any other millennials who do this to Gen z. I think the Internet attracts bullies and narcissists and it can make these ideas seem defining of a generation, but most of us are just normal people living our lives. Haters are gonna hate on whatever they think you're sensitive about, which often is based around what they're sensitive about.

And the videos TikTok's algorithm are showing you aren't representative of how an entire generation thinks, feels, and acts. They're showing you videos they know you'll engage with. Sure, there are morenos and morenas that are praised for their beauty but unless you already look flawless, your skin will be criticised. I feel like the younger generation are more open to a wider gradient of skin colour, but I could be wrong as taking gluta pills is also popular. It's a deep rooted problem and will take decades to improve.

i'm 36, no kids, career woman - i personally credit my youthful look to clinical depression and going several years without emoting. there's a joke in there somewhere i.e. "my botox was sadness". regardless, i did NOT survive the 2000's without an ED, and i credit that to my monthly vogue subscription i started receiving at age 12 (yes, the actual physical magazine). i cannot imagine what it is like coming of age today as a female, but this is the best i've got so far for ya'll - 1. set boundaries with social media, and media in general, meaning: step the F away on a regular basis. 2. identify your physical preoccupations honestly, as things you'd like to change vs. things you MUST change, to live a better life. 3. if you do #2 and there truly isn't anything you must shell out thousands of dollars to change, then be patient and wait until at LEAST 25-27, and i promise, your body is more than likely to do the rest.

Do we even have “beauty standards” anymore? It seems to me that people are just looking for any excuse, no matter how flimsy, to tear apart someone’s appearance. They’re not comparing women against some definable “standard,” they’re just making up reasons to be cruel because that’s the culture on places like TikTok - everyone is competing to see who can be the biggest jerk. It’s the cruelty that’s the point, not your failure to live up to a “standard.”

I think we are talking on a very particular group of millenials. Because lets be honest, half the millenials i know including myself are removing ourselves from social media because the comment sections are too toxic in general. No matter the generation people are trying to point out the negative in everyone and its so tiring. Anyways, while i understand the millenials upset by the negative millenial take, especially when we have copped it for both our generation and gen z by politicians and media for years. I also have to step back and realise this is a small minority of social media obsessed millenials that may just be trying to troll and be antagonistic for the sake of it online.

It’s a very age-old trend of generations wanting to stay young for as long as possible, and that’s not likely to change. Most of my gen z friends aren’t interested in anti-aging stuff which is a blessing, social media can become this echo chamber of people telling others that they have to be concerned with aging when in real life, bigger things are happening. All you can really do is live well, exercise somewhat often, and drink lots of water, not to prevent aging but to age naturally and prevent back issues 😂

As an elder millennial (42) I have been told by gen z repeatedly that I’m “old, dehydrated, hideous, need Botox, etc” just because I disagreed with something they said. I’m not going to ever insult someone’s appearance because that’s disgusting behavior, but let’s not pretend that gen z hasn’t had their own role to play here. And furthermore, it’s not millennials job to coddle gen z into feeling better about their appearance, _especially_ when they have been shamelessly hostile towards the appearance of anyone older than them. I’m classifying this as “not at all my problem.” With a touch of “don’t dish it out if you can’t take it.”

Most of these people are just online; and it's much easier to be mean online. As a gen z just know i think you're beautiful and you're absolutely right about treating everyone with respect. As for the fashion trends, I think I would prefer wearing 2000s clothes to the now common short crop tops and revealing outfits teenagers (me) are pressured into wearing. I completely agree though, don't give hate if you can't take it.

I'm 30. I feel like I have to keep reminding people that 30 is still young. I don't think gen Z is aging fast or anything, but I think it is easy for our brains to associate the things celebrities who are in their 40s do and the things gen Z does as similar. Like how if we look at high-school photos from the 1950s, we think they look old, but that's because they are wearing the same style that today's old people wear (cuz old people usually wear things they have liked for a long time). That said, wear whatever you want! You're young in your 20s, you're young in your 30s! You're not old in your 40s, but rather I see it as being in your prime. When you reach 50, you're only half way there! There's so much life left! My grandma is in her 80s and I think she's beautiful! I think we should focus on nurturing our bodies, taking care of ourselves, and being kind.
There aren't a ton of people left who were in high school in the 1950s. Born, yes. But ones who were in high school would be in their mid to late 80s if still alive.

I agree. It’s not that Gen Z look older facially (although some do, I can’t lie), it’s that they carry themselves in a much “mature” and older fashion.
That and I think we automatically equate certain features that are associated with age (like getting filler and Botox) to being something for older people. I first saw the“how old do I look” trend come about when a 23 year old who was heavy into the “mob wife” aesthetic was mistaken for being in her 30s. She didn’t look “old” or bad at all - my mind just saw the chic Chanel suit jacket and her put-together make up and immediately was like “oh yeah 30”
The real enemy is the societal standard that "aging is bad" and people end up spending their lives trying to stop aging. A lot of people don't realize they could challenge the societal standard so they just fight/shame each other. I genuinely hope people stop trying to live up to an unattainable standard and just live for themselves.
I highly disagree that the “majority” of millennials are shaming Gen Z’s looks. The ones you’re assimilating an entire generation to are the loud minority. Certainly not the majority. There are loud miserable people of all ages. All of this “Gen Z looks old” started years ago, when millennials started pointing out that Gen Z kids seemed to skip the awkward tween stage. They seemed to go from being little kids to young adults with no in between. It was a stark difference from the experience of most millennials. The sentiment behind this talking point on behalf of millennials was 1.) clowning on our own awkward tween stage and 2.), most importantly, being sad that Gen Z was raised with the internet, influencers, and facetune, and were obviously pressured by high/fake beauty standards, thanks to capitalism, since they were kids. It was never something millennials took glee in. Any other millennial I’ve had these discussions with feel sorry that Gen Z has been unfairly pressured and criticized since they were kids. I can’t imagine growing up with those standards being shoved down your throat 24/7. All we had to make us feel bad about ourselves were models in magazines and eventually the Kardashians. If it was injected into our brains at every moment by the device we’re connected to 24/7 since we were kids, well I just can’t imagine. Yall have it a lottt harder in that regard. Now this isn’t to give a pass to the millennials talking 💩 about an entire generation and saying they look old. That’s disgusting and they are clearly miserable people. But please know that the actual majority of millennials do not share that sentiment whatsoever.

Im one of the oldest gen z and definetely had the akward pre-teen stage, but I see teens now dressed like adults, maybe in my country it was just delayed (just like the internet connection, in 2010 still internet access was still not common where I live, i got my first phone with WiFi connection in 2015 i believe)
Actually what's happened is gen z was bullying millennials and now, just as bullys do, are getting their feelings hurt that we pointed out something about them. I thought the girl in the vid was a millennial , till the 8 second mark. Gen z was growing up to be bullys, millennials are too tough for that. We are often being judged by women with multiple plastic surgeries, fillers, Botox and all different kinds that of treatments. These days not having work done or needles puncturing your face is like a crime.

As a 29 yo I feel like this vid is kind of hostile towards people my age. Beauty standards were always harsh on women, no matter what age. And aging has always been a sensitive topic for all genders. Beauty industry is obsessed with “staying young” resulting in people developing Dorian Grey syndrome. I don’t think it’s about a certain generation. It’s really about what’s trendy.
I don't think it's a generational thing but I think the trend of using tons of skin products and getting procedures done actually ages people, which is the opposite intention. The more you fuss with yourself, the worse you'll look. These celebrities might look good on TV or in pics with good lighting and filters but in person, if they're full of botox, fillers, a bunch of stuff slathered on their skin, they probably don't look that great.

Okay so quick questions have you ever talked to a millennial that isn’t internet poisoned? Gen z is way worse about beauty standards simply because a lot of millennials don’t have time to be on the internet. I can’t tell you how many gen z I bump into on Twitter (I’m into geek stuff, so it happens) who when I tell them I’m 30 immediately make jokes about it. Additionally gen Z has access to certain trends that we millennials didn’t. A lot of millennials were trying to look older we just didn’t know how to properly achieve that look. We didn’t have internet tutorials instructing us step by step on how to and we didn’t have online shopping access. We were stuck with what you could get at the local mall. Also boy bands and Justin Bieber, music made for teen girls was considered super cringe back then. Same goes for high school musical although that one is more gender neutral. If anything it was worse because the internet was the Wild West back then. You know that hating on Twilight Trend, yeah that too. I’m not saying millennials are blameless. There are plenty of cringe bullying millennials on TikTok and that’s pathetic because we all of gens should know how much it sucks to be shat on by the older gen. But a lot of these trends are things that have been around forever the internet has just enabled them more readily,

As a 30 year old, it was also considered “cringe” to like things made for us when we were younger too. A lot of us also felt forced to age up quickly. I work in the beauty industry and a lot of my clients are women 35+ and they are constantly putting themselves down and talking about how terrible it is to age (most of them are mid 40’s -50’s) and they don’t realize that I’m really only like 10 years or so younger than them. Im excited to age. Idk, I’m convinced my 30’s will be my prime decade. Aging truly is a privilege. I don’t understand why everyone is being so hateful.
Yeah, it definitely has been a thing for a long time. There was a reason the teenage girls at my school went so hard for Playboy products / got Playboy bunny tattoos - it was "adult" and therefore cool.
You’re so right! It would break my heart when I was a brand rep working at stores like Ulta and Sephora and the women would constantly shame themselves. Including those who were just customers. I always would say aging is a privilege and not everyone gets to do it. And I’d tell them to put the magnifying mirrors down, stand in natural light to do your makeup, and don’t follow trends just stick with classics. We uphold music, art, film, etc from decades ago as “classics” but when it’s a person (woman) we’re talking about, our connotation switches to be negative. Words like “aged”, “mature”, etc. flip the script. Healthy aging is in, anti-aging is out. Healthy aging is an all encompassing term that includes mental and physical health, Got crows feet? So what?!?! If you take care of your mind and body and can go for a 2 mile run and still do pushups after at the age of 65, that’s more beneficial than a lifted face any day.
I’m simultaneously excited for and scared of aging. It’ll be so nice to (hopefully) know myself a little bit better every year and have more perspective on life, but it’s a bit jarring to know that society will eventually ignore me completely because I’m not young and hot.

Millennial here, what’s infuriating to me are content creators like this one who won’t stop fanning the flames of a generational animosity that wouldn’t exist without content creators blowing up the nonsense from a couple of chronically online goblins who happen to be millennials or gen z. My circle of friends and people we know through each other are also millennials and none of us punch down at gen z. We are too busy getting burnt out by our jobs in social work. We live along side you gen z. You came of age in a bleak and volatile world of climate collapse, and corporate driven hyper consumerism mutated and perpetuated by social media to create this horrific monster of unnatural unobtainable perfection. We know it’s hard and you try your best. And yeah it stings to constantly be blamed and labeled en mass for … well just about everything (especially petty drama that starts on tiktok) when all of us are trying our best to survive a world that is actively trying to break our spirit, kill us, and everything we love. My request to content creators like this one is to stop sensationalizing and punching down at millennials (especially for the harmless things we choose to take comfort in) and focus on the root causes of these issues.
As a Gen Z, I agree! It’s just another way of scapegoating and causing division when we should be working together! I don’t discriminate on people based on their age or what they look like, I care about whether they are a good individual!
Yeah, I usually like Salem's takes, she's always coming from a good place, but I'm over the Millennial vilification. This isn't just her, but people could do less with forming their opinions on generations based on the TikToks of chronically online nobodies.
I get what you’re saying but usually when people make these type of takes it’s usually just people wanting you to stop talking because it triggers them or to tone police people when they speak on topics they don’t deem important. it’s easy to scroll pass unproblematic content that doesn’t resonate with you. I think as a whole her video came full circle bringing a current hot topic into a more overall bigger well rounded point about ageism, aging, and body image. Which are very important topics to speak on. And also, (not that articles are always the measurement for weather a topic is important or not) I think that the fact that this reach such a big article like The New York Times means it might not be a minuscule as you think or at the very least note worthy.
I'm 25 but i get such mixed reactions about my age... sometimes i'm tokd i look 30, and a month ago i was told 19... i guess it really depends o each person's perspective, but also the state of my skin on that specific day, how i did my makeup, how i dressed, what my energy levels were.... when you create a mean, you look juet your age, as is normal ❤
I think what you meant instead of the general term “millennials”, was that you meant the millennials on TikTok or whatever. There are plenty of us millennials with actual lives, who have never wasted a second on TikTok, who don’t raise iPad kids and are good parents, and would never make some narcissistic video claiming we’ve aged better than gen z or any other nonsense.
I agree, it felt such an overgeneralized thing about a whole generation. And what triggers me: what if someone doesn't wanna grow up/do adulting/read harry potter or whatever, now she picks on THEM with this comment. Is that a crime now too? It's their choice, so how about not making sarcastic comments about it? The same way how making derisive comments about having 5 kids? What if they do? But what if they are actually -gasp- childless? And funnily, none of my millennial friends with kids are iPad kids, so idk. I must know the wrong people...

To me it seems younger generations have access to better skincare, make-up, hair products, etc. and tutorials on how exactly to achieve celebrity-level looks so it makes teens look older. Plus the current trend right now with cat-eye liquid liner with fake lashes and tons of highlight and contour (no shade Salem) is more adult style even if it does look glam--it's just weird seeing it on a younger person, and definitely borne out of looking good on photos/videos for social media. Maybe this is controversial, but I think Salem (and many other media essayists both mainstream and on social media) grab on to and show the same five viral videos as though it's a pervasive thing throughout the globe when it's not really. I've watched several other youtubers talk about this and everyone shows the same videos, so I don't know how much it's even a real thing or just a catchy topic to discuss. I appreciate that she throws in a positive message about how beauty standards are affecting women in particular, but I feel like Salem used to have more nuanced takes and didn't just do the same thing to millennials that she hates seeing being done to Gen Z ("I'm quirky, smol bean, etc" like girl you are becoming the thing that you hate) and it just feeds the generational in-fighting. She can make the commentary without getting defensive, that's all I'm saying.

I also think that Gen z appear older because they do more procedures like lip fillers, botox and eyelash extensions from a very young age and we tend to associate this look to older women trying to look younger. Millennials didn't grow up with these procedures being so common and affordable so a lot of them didn't get into the habit of doing them. This is not to shame who does them or say they look bad I think its just a general perception like when you see someone young dressed in an antique style and they look older because we associate this style to older folks.

I think Salem is right about stylistic choice dating Gen Z but I think it goes beyond clothing. I think the Gen Z influencers that supposedly look "older" is the use of plastic surgery/botox/filler/procedures done that previously was only seen on people who were 35+. So it just reads as older? I definitely cold-called the featured 22 year old blonde lady as older because to me she looks like a Real Housewife of BlankCity and I associate those women as being like early-40s. The cosmetic procedure might physically get rid of the "signs of aging" but the presence of the procedure dates the face by association with an age group. And it tracks that Millennials would fall for this association too but we were the first to be judgy about over-procedured older women so we're just keeping the morality/beauty complex trucking.
One thing though - I have no idea what it looked like in USA - but in my country 'act your age' means literally 'do not have any hobbies! You're way to old to have fun!'.
Millennial fan here! I just wanna look and feel my best. I’m not as worried about how old I look but choose to be more focused on how taking care of myself makes me feel. I’m an 80s baby, a 90s kid, and a 2000s teen ☺️ It’s a blessing to age 💜
I wish I could convey my tone better in a comments section so I hope this doesn’t come across as whiny or hostile but it’s truly disappointing that your message gets lost in some of your takes on millennials. I hate the generational wars online so much. We can all learn so much from one another but instead all of our energy is directed at attacking each another. You are one of my favorite creators but it gets hard to watch you generalize negatively about millennials while trying to uplift Gen Z. The millennials who participate in tearing down Gen Z and Gen Alpha should be ashamed but taking a dig at their parenting, personalities and so on isn’t going to help bridge the gap.
The reality is, the people who shame others on the internet come in all ages. That's how social media is. We really need to focus more on the fact that people are much too comfortable being jerks online and not "this generation is bullying the other!". It's everybody.

I haven't really noticed any of my millenial peers doing this. I guess we've talked about how younger people are looking more mature then we did in our teens and early 20s, but never to say they look bad. We just didn't grow up with as many beauty tutorials so our awkward phase lasted wayyyy longer. I guess this is one of those niche tiktok trends (not real life; shouldn't represent all millenials as cruel)
Social media has definitely made the awkward tween/teen phase seem nonexistent, which kinda forced current tweens/teens to just skip it if that makes sense? I was a tween during the pandemic and I had somewhat of an awkward phase, except I didn't have to deal with how cruel 7th graders are because I was doing online school lol.

Telling millennials to stop behaving a certain way and to act their age is borderline ageist, and really undermines the message you’re trying to get across in the rest of the video. Why should younger people NOT be afraid of aging when even creators that claim it’s okay to embrace it turn around in the next breath and tell *slightly* older people that the way they’ve always acted is no-longer “age appropriate”? Our culture of ageism isn’t just about looks, it’s also about policing (mostly women’s) behavior, dress, opinions, and eventually their overall visibility in public spaces.

Yeah, thinking abot it, the millenial "you look old" backlash might actually be retalliation for shaming some millenials for just being who they are without hurting anyone. So yeah, let them be "smol beans" or potatoes, and let them complain about adulting, it's usually harmless ways of coping with the idea of getting older and being thrown into a world you don't feel ready for. It is immature behaviour to retaliate by dragging people for looking older, but it's probably the only strategy they know, since they remember their own youth where the older generation was unable to shake off the "dated" label. We all just need to stop trying to police other peoples way of existing in the world, even if it makes us cringe.
Salem, I love your videos and your opinion on things. As a millennial I think most millennials are obsessed with being younger because a lot of our childhood was stolen from us, we were forced to grow up fast because of society and partly because of 9/11. I see it now with kids of today they were forced to grow up because of the pandemic, it’s trauma. But I don’t agree with millennials criticizing how gen z looks. Every age group as people who look their age and people who don’t, doesn’t mean it’s right to criticize a whole generation. Millennials should know better but we were raised but our overbaring narcissistic gen X parents

There's a movie called The Guardian (2006), which is about Coast Guard rescue swimmers, but one of the characters is a bar owner. At one point, she's talking to one of the older swimmers and says " I mean if my muscles ache, it's because I've used 'em. It's hard for me to walk up them steps now, 'cuz I walked up 'em every night to lay next to a man who loved me. I got a few wrinkles here and there, but I've layed under thousands of skies with sunny days. I look and feel this way, well cuz I drank and I smoked. I lived and I loved, danced, sang, sweat, and screwed my way through a pretty damn good life if you ask me. Getting old ain't bad Ben. Getting old, that's earned." That struck me and has been my philosophy on aging since then.
I think this is the first video where I don’t completely agree with you. You did make some good points but I don’t believe it’s an entire generation’s fault that people are trying follow certain beauty standards. Some people are just mean for no reason regardless of age. I think we will all be happier if we accept that aging happens and that’s okay. We’re not going to look like people that can afford filler and plastic surgery.
Also, the dig at millennials being bad parents of iPad kids was phrased as a generalization of millennials as a whole. When that’s obviously not the majority of millennial parents. iPad kids, and kids who have near unregulated access to the internet from an early age in general, are new issues that millennial parents have to deal with whereas parents from older generations didn’t have to(as much, depending on the person). And some of those parents don’t do a good job. But bad parents have existed in every generation. And there are plenty of good millennial parents. This video is unnecessarily accusatory of millennials for broader societal issues that predate them. The exact beauty trends may be current, but the way society enforces them isn’t millennial’s fault. Just because some people are awful and nasty on social media doesn’t mean they represent the entirety of their generation. This video didn’t do a very good job avoiding painting all millennials with the same brush. Which is disappointing, considering Salem usually has more nuance.
This stupid ass battle of the generations needs to stop, this really isn't helping. Not all millenials are like this. I'm about to be 37 in a few days and I don't shame younger people about their looks. Let's try to be more about the solution here not perpetrate the problem by generalizing.
I agree with you when you say that social media has influenced the way that we assume someone is "young" and "old"; but I also disagree with this idea... If I compare Kylie Jenner to the girls I see at work, then yes, Kylie Jenner looks way older than them, maybe because of the fillers or the make-up she used. I do agree that social media disturbed our conception of "age" and "aging" somehow but it's not just that. Young elementary school girls going to Sephora to buy skincare products and makeup and then looking like high school girls / girls in their 20s is actually happening. I work in a highschool and trust me, the amount of teenagers who look older than most of my coworkers who are in their thirties is insane. And it's very specific to the western world, because, as we all know, in Asia for instance, people tend to avoid looking "older". Asians still use a lot of fillers and undergo cosmetic procedures, but the results are drastically different.
As someone who's living in Europe I can say that gen z here does look younger. I guess it's only in the US because people there seems like too obsessed over looking good, but idk
Wow, I actually needed to hear this today. I would never dream of body shaming and Kylie looked amazing. But being 33 and loosing close to 100 pounds for my health, I was disappointed I didn’t seem to look like “other people my age.” Because I noticed loose skin. Thanks for the reminder that social media is fabricated and that my loose skin is proof how far I’ve come from my 20’s. As a millennial, i grew up watching so many tv shows where high schoolers were played by people in their late 20's to mid 30's. so i feel like it influenced how badly i cannot guess peoples ages.
As a 27 yrs old teacher working with university kids, I purposely make myself look older (wear darker clothings, blazers, trousers, dress shoes, wear make up more often) so they would take me seriously. I used to be the youngest in the faculty too. Nobody literally nobody took me seriously if I didn't intentionally look a bit older. So much of how you come across is ur clothes n style, not actually age. Insightful video per usual Salem just wanna say you always look fantastic 🦆 quack quack
I'm on the cusp, and I think a lot of the 'preventative measures' and heavy makeup mid gen z use serve to age them in an indirect way, because older gen z/younger millenials, and I guess older millenials too, associate that stuff with like, actually old people. They're doing the level of skincare and makeup boomers did in the '00s. But I agree it's Society's faut, obviously. The pressure was on when I was a tween in the late '00s, all the clothes were SO adult, I can't imagine growing up on tiktok (or choosing to be there even now, my god). Also you ARE cool and unique the way you are and should do whatever makes you happy. Also also anyone who wants to be mistaken for a teenager when pushing thirty is incomprehensible to me.
I really don't get when people say its just millennials raising iPad kids, as a middle school teacher most of the parents I meet are older, like parents who had kids in their late thirties and now feel "too old" to actually parent. Most of the younger parents I meet are actually pretty involved or are immigrants who have other struggles to deal with. I think we forget how many older people are having kids. My mom had my brother lil brother 16 years after me at the age of 40.

It has NOTHING to do with styles. They had entire families jobs and mortgages right out of high school. We did not have the privilege of experiencing that. Which does age u significantly.

I also feel like a part of our obsession with youth and infantilizing ourselves as millenials is our inability to cope with us being the adults now 😂 there's like a disconnect between our actual age and mental age. Some chronically online millenials keep engaging in dumb feuds with gen z on tiktok. Some millenials are bad parents (like every generation before us). As a millenial who has neither tiktok nor kids, I don’t get why I should be bunched with those people in a criticism of "millenials" in general; that’s unfair. For what it’s worth, millenials in my friend circle (offline) are very empathetic about body shaming because we all suffered too much from it. ONLINE however, I’m under the impression that people of all generations can be nasty about people’s appearance in social media comments

Saying a whole generation are bad parents, delusional, mean spirited bullies is reductive. Every generation has a mixture of people. Millennials are not a monolith. i think it's a weird paradox of "looking younger" and what that looks like bc i associate youth with a full face, chubby cheeks, acne, braces, unkempt hair from playing, bright colors, etc. but when ppl think about looking younger, they think of botox, fillers, certain style choices, makeup, clear skin, aka all things i associate with being an adult. it's so weird. i also found my first silver hair at 22 last year, and today i found my first white hair at 23. who honestly cares atp

Looking young might be flattering sometimes but it gets annoying real fast when people dont respect you and treat you like a clueless kid. Try being 21 looking like 14 in retail. None of the old people respect you and if you stand your ground theyre more likely to verbally attack you rather than someone they percieve as older and more mature. Even managers and such may be more likely to treat you like a missbehaving child instead of a grown a.. woman.
Some Gen Z looks "old" because all those 90s fashions are back, and "old lady" outfits. And milennials look "old" because people forget what aging actually looks like. People expect a 35 year old to be covered in wrinkles and that's juat not the case.
I’ve been noticing a shift in the content for a while, but this really drove it home. Sure there are some millennials who cannot accept that they are aging, but this whole video was just using a whole generation as a punching bag again. This has been an increasing trend over the past 5-6 months. I used to love Salem, but her content over the past several months has felt very mean girl.
Okay I thought I was going crazy bcuz I noticed the same thing. Before, her content was on different controversies and social issues, but lately it just feels like she’s has had a vendetta against certain groups and using her vids to justify her views. Don’t get me wrong, her views are her views and that’s fine. To me, it’s no longer fine when she just uses the millennial demographic as a punching bag with shallow level media instead of looking further into the issue and seeing if there even is one. More MATURE seems accurate. And it’s not a dig by any means. When I was in my 20’s I didn’t have RUclips makeup tutorials, and hair tutorials etc. so our makeup skills were um…less than stellar to put it nicely. So seeing these 20 somethings all done up with perfect makeup signals in MY MIND that they are older than they are. Not that they “look old” but their aesthetic in general looks more mature, seasoned, and put together than people in their 20’s when I was their age.

As someone who’s best friend died at 25, aging is a privilege and blessing. I welcome every grey hair, every fine line, every wrinkle. The fact I've only seen this trend targeted towards women really tells you a lot.
There was literally a dude in the video so that's not true. Women also tend to get a lot more hung up over their appearance (and before you blame this on men, an enormous amount of the people talking about and commenting on this trend are all women/girls). Men are held to a lot of unfair beauty standards too, such as height.

I never comment but a lot of this is a sweeping generalization for people who are chronically online as well as those that have created an algorithm that produces these results. I never see things like this on TikTok. I actually think my feed is generally positive and shows a lot kind millennials proud of where they are at living their best lives, aging gracefully, and staying respectful of others.

When are they going to embrace their skin color? I visited and received free skin bleaching cream from buying an essential oil. When I went to Sephora they asked if I wanted my color or 2 shades lighter. I thought it was bad in Thailand but its really bad there.

Sure, there are morenos and morenas that are praised for their beauty but unless you already look flawless, your skin will be criticised. It's a deep rooted problem and will take decades to improve.

i'm 36, no kids, career woman - i personally credit my youthful look to clinical depression and going several years without emoting. there's a joke in there somewhere i.e. "my botox was sadness". regardless, i did NOT survive the 2000's without an ED, and i credit that to my monthly vogue subscription i started receiving at age 12 (yes, the actual physical magazine).
i cannot imagine what it is like coming of age today as a female, but this is the best i've got so far for ya'll - 1. set boundaries with social media, and media in general, meaning: step the F away on a regular basis. 2. identify your physical preoccupations honestly, as things you'd like to change vs. things you MUST change, to live a better life. 3. if you do #2 and there truly isn't anything you must shell out thousands of dollars to change, then be patient and wait until at LEAST 25-27, and i promise, your body is more than likely to do the rest.

I think we are talking on a very particular group of millenials. Because lets be honest, half the millenials i know including myself are removing ourselves from social media because the comment sections are too toxic in general. It’s a very age-old trend of generations wanting to stay young for as long as possible, and that’s not likely to change. Most of my gen z friends aren’t interested in anti-aging stuff which is a blessing, social media can become this echo chamber of people telling others that they have to be concerned with aging when in real life, bigger things are happening. All you can really do is live well, exercise somewhat often, and drink lots of water, not to prevent aging but to age naturally and prevent back issues 😂

As an elder millennial (42) I have been told by gen z repeatedly that I’m “old, dehydrated, hideous, need Botox, etc” just because I disagreed with something they said. I’m not going to ever insult someone’s appearance because that’s disgusting behavior, but let’s not pretend that gen z hasn’t had their own role to play here. And furthermore, it’s not millennials job to coddle gen z into feeling better about their appearance, _especially_ when they have been shamelessly hostile towards the appearance of anyone older than them.

I'm 30. I feel like I have to keep reminding people that 30 is still young. I don't think gen Z is aging fast or anything, but I think it is easy for our brains to associate the things celebrities who are in their 40s do and the things gen Z does as similar. Like how if we look at high-school photos from the 1950s, we think they look old, but that's because they are wearing the same style that today's old people wear (cuz old people usually wear things they have liked for a long time). That said, wear whatever you want! You're young in your 20s, you're young in your 30s! You're not old in your 40s, but rather I see it as being in your prime. When you reach 50, you're only half way there! There's so much life left!

I agree. It’s not that Gen Z look older facially (although some do, I can’t lie), it’s that they carry themselves in a much “mature” and older fashion.
That and I think we automatically equate certain features that are associated with age (like getting filler and Botox) to being something for older people.
I first saw the“how old do I look” trend come about when a 23 year old who was heavy into the “mob wife” aesthetic was mistaken for being in her 30s. She didn’t look “old” or bad at all - my mind just saw the chic Chanel suit jacket and her put-together make up and immediately was like “oh yeah 30”

The real enemy is the societal standard that "aging is bad" and people end up spending their lives trying to stop aging. A lot of people don't realize they could challenge the societal standard so they just fight/shame each other.
I genuinely hope people stop trying to live up to an unattainable standard and just live for themselves.
I highly disagree that the “majority” of millennials are shaming Gen Z’s looks. The ones you’re assimilating an entire generation to are the loud minority. Certainly not the majority. There are loud miserable people of all ages.
All of this “Gen Z looks old” started years ago, when millennials started pointing out that Gen Z kids seemed to skip the awkward tween stage. They seemed to go from being little kids to young adults with no in between. It was a stark difference from the experience of most millennials.
The sentiment behind this talking point on behalf of millennials was 1.) clowning on our own awkward tween stage and 2.), most importantly, being sad that Gen Z was raised with the internet, influencers, and facetune, and were obviously pressured by high/fake beauty standards, thanks to capitalism, since they were kids.
It was never something millennials took glee in. Any other millennial I’ve had these discussions with feel sorry that Gen Z has been unfairly pressured and criticized since they were kids.
I can’t imagine growing up with those standards being shoved down your throat 24/7. All we had to make us feel bad about ourselves were models in magazines and eventually the Kardashians. If it was injected into our brains at every moment by the device we’re connected to 24/7 since we were kids, well I just can’t imagine. Yall have it a lottt harder in that regard.

Im one of the oldest gen z and definetely had the akward pre-teen stage, but I see teens now dressed like adults, maybe in my country it was just delayed (just like the internet connection, in 2010 still internet access was still not common where I live, i got my first phone with WiFi connection in 2015 i believe)

I don't think it's a generational thing but I think the trend of using tons of skin products and getting procedures done actually ages people, which is the opposite intention.
The more you fuss with yourself, the worse you'll look. These celebrities might look good on TV or in pics with good lighting and filters but in person, if they're full of botox, fillers, a bunch of stuff slathered on their skin, they probably don't look that great.

Okay so quick questions have you ever talked to a millennial that isn’t internet poisoned?
Gen z is way worse about beauty standards simply because a lot of millennials don’t have time to be on the internet. I can’t tell you how many gen z I bump into on Twitter (I’m into geek stuff, so it happens) who when I tell them I’m 30 immediately make jokes about it.
Additionally gen Z has access to certain trends that we millennials didn’t. A lot of millennials were trying to look older we just didn’t know how to properly achieve that look. We didn’t have internet tutorials instructing us step by step on how to and we didn’t have online shopping access. We were stuck with what you could get at the local mall.
Also boy bands and Justin Bieber, music made for teen girls was considered super cringe back then. Same goes for high school musical although that one is more gender neutral. If anything it was worse because the internet was the Wild West back then. You know that hating on Twilight Trend, yeah that too.
I’m not saying millennials are blameless. There are plenty of cringe bullying millennials on TikTok and that’s pathetic because we all of gens should know how much it sucks to be shat on by the older gen.
But a lot of these trends are things that have been around forever the internet has just enabled them more readily,

I feel the same, having a gen z sister and being online a lot made me feel protective of them cause I saw a lot of myself in their interests that fellow millennials don’t relate with. Like I promise the ones on TikTok don’t do us any justice, some of us are trying to bridge the gap and really care about the younger gen’s 😭

As a 30 year old, it was also considered “cringe” to like things made for us when we were younger too. A lot of us also felt forced to age up quickly.
I work in the beauty industry and a lot of my clients are women 35+ and they are constantly putting themselves down and talking about how terrible it is to age (most of them are mid 40’s -50’s) and they don’t realize that I’m really only like 10 years or so younger than them.
Im excited to age. Idk, I’m convinced my 30’s will be my prime decade. Aging truly is a privilege. I don’t understand why everyone is being so hateful.
Yeah, it definitely has been a thing for a long time. There was a reason the teenage girls at my school went so hard for Playboy products / got Playboy bunny tattoos - it was "adult" and therefore cool.
You’re so right! It would break my heart when I was a brand rep working at stores like Ulta and Sephora and the women would constantly shame themselves. Including those who were just customers. I always would say aging is a privilege and not everyone gets to do it. And I’d tell them to put the magnifying mirrors down, stand in natural light to do your makeup, and don’t follow trends just stick with classics. We uphold music, art, film, etc from decades ago as “classics” but when it’s a person (woman) we’re talking about, our connotation switches to be negative. Words like “aged”, “mature”, etc. flip the script. Healthy aging is in, anti-aging is out. Healthy aging is an all encompassing term that includes mental and physical health, Got crows feet? So what?!?! If you take care of your mind and body and can go for a 2 mile run and still do pushups after at the age of 65, that’s more beneficial than a lifted face any day.
I’m simultaneously excited for and scared of aging. It’ll be so nice to (hopefully) know myself a little bit better every year and have more perspective on life, but it’s a bit jarring to know that society will eventually ignore me completely because I’m not young and hot.

Millennial here, what’s infuriating to me are content creators like this one who won’t stop fanning the flames of a generational animosity that wouldn’t exist without content creators blowing up the nonsense from a couple of chronically online goblins who happen to be millennials or gen z. My circle of friends and people we know through each other are also millennials and none of us punch down at gen z. We are too busy getting burnt out by our jobs in social work. We live along side you gen z. You came of age in a bleak and volatile world of climate collapse, and corporate driven hyper consumerism mutated and perpetuated by social media to create this horrific monster of unnatural unobtainable perfection. We know it’s hard and you try your best.
And yeah it stings to constantly be blamed and labeled en mass for … well just about everything (especially petty drama that starts on tiktok) when all of us are trying our best to survive a world that is actively trying to break our spirit, kill us, and everything we love. My request to content creators like this one is to stop sensationalizing and punching down at millennials (especially for the harmless things we choose to take comfort in) and focus on the root causes of these issues.

I get what you’re saying but usually when people make these type of takes it’s usually just people wanting you to stop talking because it triggers them or to tone police people when they speak on topics they don’t deem important. it’s easy to scroll pass unproblematic content that doesn’t resonate with you. I think as a whole her video came full circle bringing a current hot topic into a more overall bigger well rounded point about ageism, aging, and body image. Which are very important topics to speak on. And also, (not that articles are always the measurement for weather a topic is important or not) I think that the fact that this reach such a big article like The New York Times means it might not be a minuscule as you think or at the very least note worthy.

To me it seems younger generations have access to better skincare, make-up, hair products, etc. and tutorials on how exactly to achieve celebrity-level looks so it makes teens look older. Plus the current trend right now with cat-eye liquid liner with fake lashes and tons of highlight and contour (no shade Salem) is more adult style even if it does look glam--it's just weird seeing it on a younger person, and definitely borne out of looking good on photos/videos for social media.
Maybe this is controversial, but I think Salem (and many other media essayists both mainstream and on social media) grab on to and show the same five viral videos as though it's a pervasive thing throughout the globe when it's not really. I've watched several other youtubers talk about this and everyone shows the same videos, so I don't know how much it's even a real thing or just a catchy topic to discuss.
I appreciate that she throws in a positive message about how beauty standards are affecting women in particular, but I feel like Salem used to have more nuanced takes and didn't just do the same thing to millennials that she hates seeing being done to Gen Z ("I'm quirky, smol bean, etc" like girl you are becoming the thing that you hate) and it just feeds the generational in-fighting.
She can make the commentary without getting defensive, that's all I'm saying.

I also think that Gen z appear older because they do more procedures like lip fillers, botox and eyelash extensions from a very young age and we tend to associate this look to older women trying to look younger. Millennials didn't grow up with these procedures being so common and affordable so a lot of them didn't get into the habit of doing them. This is not to shame who does them or say they look bad I think its just a general perception like when you see someone young dressed in an antique style and they look older because we associate this style to older folks.

That's what I'm saying. Millennial makeup wasn't as complex and aggressively contouring, it was more about color trends and it was less about reshaping things like bigger lips and brows.
I think Salem is right about stylistic choice dating Gen Z but I think it goes beyond clothing. I think the Gen Z influencers that supposedly look "older" is the use of plastic surgery/botox/filler/procedures done that previously was only seen on people who were 35+. So it just reads as older? I definitely cold-called the featured 22 year old blonde lady as older because to me she looks like a Real Housewife of BlankCity and I associate those women as being like early-40s. The cosmetic procedure might physically get rid of the "signs of aging" but the presence of the procedure dates the face by association with an age group. And it tracks that Millennials would fall for this association too but we were the first to be judgy about over-procedured older women so we're just keeping the morality/beauty complex trucking.
One thing though - I have no idea what it looked like in USA - but in my country 'act your age' means literally 'do not have any hobbies! You're way to old to have fun!'.

I wish I could convey my tone better in a comments section so I hope this doesn’t come across as whiny or hostile but it’s truly disappointing that your message gets lost in some of your takes on millennials. I hate the generational wars online so much. We can all learn so much from one another but instead all of our energy is directed at attacking each another. You are one of my favorite creators but it gets hard to watch you generalize negatively about millennials while trying to uplift Gen Z. The millennials who participate in tearing down Gen Z and Gen Alpha should be ashamed but taking a dig at their parenting, personalities and so on isn’t going to help bridge the gap.

I haven't really noticed any of my millenial peers doing this. I guess we've talked about how younger people are looking more mature then we did in our teens and early 20s, but never to say they look bad. We just didn't grow up with as many beauty tutorials so our awkward phase lasted wayyyy longer. Social media has definitely made the awkward tween/teen phase seem nonexistent, which kinda forced current tweens/teens to just skip it if that makes sense? Telling millennials to stop behaving a certain way and to act their age is borderline ageist, and really undermines the message you’re trying to get across in the rest of the video. Why should younger people NOT be afraid of aging when even creators that claim it’s okay to embrace it turn around in the next breath and tell *slightly* older people that the way they’ve always acted is no-longer “age appropriate”? Our culture of ageism isn’t just about looks, it’s also about policing (mostly women’s) behavior, dress, opinions, and eventually their overall visibility in public spaces.

As a millennial I think most millennials are obsessed with being younger because a lot of our childhood was stolen from us, we were forced to grow up fast because of society and partly because of 9/11. I see it now with kids of today they were forced to grow up because of the pandemic, it’s trauma. But I don’t agree with millennials criticizing how gen z looks. Every age group as people who look their age and people who don’t, doesn’t mean it’s right to criticize a whole generation. There's a movie called The Guardian (2006), which is about Coast Guard rescue swimmers, but one of the characters is a bar owner. At one point, she's talking to one of the older swimmers and says " I mean if my muscles ache, it's because I've used 'em. It's hard for me to walk up them steps now, 'cuz I walked up 'em every night to lay next to a man who loved me. I got a few wrinkles here and there, but I've layed under thousands of skies with sunny days. I look and feel this way, well cuz I drank and I smoked. I lived and I loved, danced, sang, sweat, and screwed my way through a pretty damn good life if you ask me. Getting old ain't bad Ben. Getting old, that's earned." That struck me and has been my philosophy on aging since then.

I think this is the first video where I don’t completely agree with you. You did make some good points but I don’t believe it’s an entire generation’s fault that people are trying follow certain beauty standards. Some people are just mean for no reason regardless of age. I think we will all be happier if we accept that aging happens and that’s okay. We’re not going to look like people that can afford filler and plastic surgery.

Also, the dig at millennials being bad parents of iPad kids was phrased as a generalization of millennials as a whole. When that’s obviously not the majority of millennial parents. iPad kids, and kids who have near unregulated access to the internet from an early age in general, are new issues that millennial parents have to deal with whereas parents from older generations didn’t have to(as much, depending on the person). And some of those parents don’t do a good job. But bad parents have existed in every generation. And there are plenty of good millennial parents.
This video is unnecessarily accusatory of millennials for broader societal issues that predate them. The exact beauty trends may be current, but the way society enforces them isn’t millennial’s fault. Just because some people are awful and nasty on social media doesn’t mean they represent the entirety of their generation. This video didn’t do a very good job avoiding painting all millennials with the same brush. Which is disappointing, considering Salem usually has more nuance.
This stupid ass battle of the generations needs to stop, this really isn't helping.

I agree with you when you say that social media has influenced the way that we assume someone is "young" and "old"; but I also disagree with this idea... If I compare Kylie Jenner to the girls I see at work, then yes, Kylie Jenner looks way older than them, maybe because of the fillers or the make-up she used. I do agree that social media disturbed our conception of "age" and "aging" somehow but it's not just that. Young elementary school girls going to Sephora to buy skincare products and makeup and then looking like high school girls / girls in their 20s is actually happening. I work in a highschool and trust me, the amount of teenagers who look older than most of my coworkers who are in their thirties is insane. And it's very specific to the western world, because, as we all know, in Asia for instance, people tend to avoid looking "older". Asians still use a lot of fillers and undergo cosmetic procedures, but the results are drastically different.
As someone who's living in Europe I can say that gen z here does look younger. I guess it's only in the US because people there seems like too obsessed over looking good, but idk
Wow, I actually needed to hear this today. I would never dream of body shaming and Kylie looked amazing. But being 33 and loosing close to 100 pounds for my health, I was disappointed I didn’t seem to look like “other people my age.” Because I noticed loose skin. Thanks for the reminder that social media is fabricated and that my loose skin is proof how far I’ve come from my 20’s. Also, deleting tik tok was the best thing I ever did to myself, it’s brutal there 😢

As a millennial, i grew up watching so many tv shows where high schoolers were played by people in their late 20's to mid 30's. so i feel like it influenced how badly i cannot guess peoples ages.
As a 27 yrs old teacher working with university kids, I purposely make myself look older (wear darker clothings, blazers, trousers, dress shoes, wear make up more often) so they would take me seriously. I used to be the youngest in the faculty too. Nobody literally nobody took me seriously if I didn't intentionally look a bit older. So much of how you come across is ur clothes n style, not actually age. Insightful video per usual Salem just wanna say you always look fantastic 🦆 quack quack
I'm on the cusp, and I think a lot of the 'preventative measures' and heavy makeup mid gen z use serve to age them in an indirect way, because older gen z/younger millenials, and I guess older millenials too, associate that stuff with like, actually old people. They're doing the level of skincare and makeup boomers did in the '00s.
But I agree it's Society's faut, obviously. The pressure was on when I was a tween in the late '00s, all the clothes were SO adult, I can't imagine growing up on tiktok (or choosing to be there even now, my god).

I really don't get when people say its just millennials raising iPad kids, as a middle school teacher most of the parents I meet are older, like parents who had kids in their late thirties and now feel "too old" to actually parent. Most of the younger parents I meet are actually pretty involved or are immigrants who have other struggles to deal with. I think we forget how many older people are having kids. My mom had my brother lil brother 16 years after me at the age of 40.

Vsauce did a pretty good video about people from the past looking older. It's the same principle here. Style plays the biggest part, for sure.
It has NOTHING to do with styles. They had entire families jobs and mortgages right out of high school. We did not have the privilege of experiencing that. Which does age u significantly.

I also feel like a part of our obsession with youth and infantilizing ourselves as millenials is our inability to cope with us being the adults now 😂 there's like a disconnect between our actual age and mental age. Though, a lot of generations prob felt this way or will feel this way. We millenials have def been loud about this.

As a millenial who has neither tiktok nor kids, I don’t get why I should be bunched with those people in a criticism of "millenials" in general; that’s unfair.
For what it’s worth, millenials in my friend circle (offline) are very empathetic about body shaming because we all suffered too much from it.
ONLINE however, I’m under the impression that people of all generations can be nasty about people’s appearance in social media comments

A lot of teachers on tiktok state non stop on how badly gen alpha has been acting, not being to focus or listen, and can't even spell well. Whether you decide to be ignorant, future kids are not doing very well.

i think it's a weird paradox of "looking younger" and what that looks like bc i associate youth with a full face, chubby cheeks, acne, braces, unkempt hair from playing, bright colors, etc. but when ppl think about looking younger, they think of botox, fillers, certain style choices, makeup, clear skin, aka all things i associate with being an adult. it's so weird. i also found my first silver hair at 22 last year, and today i found my first white hair at 23. who honestly cares atp

Looking young might be flattering sometimes but it gets annoying real fast when people dont respect you and treat you like a clueless kid. Try being 21 looking like 14 in retail. None of the old people respect you and if you stand your ground theyre more likely to verbally attack you rather than someone they percieve as older and more mature. Even managers and such may be more likely to treat you like a missbehaving child instead of a grown a.. woman.
Some Gen Z looks "old" because all those 90s fashions are back, and "old lady" outfits. And milennials look "old" because people forget what aging actually looks like. People expect a 35 year old to be covered in wrinkles and that's juat not the case.
I’ve been noticing a shift in the content for a while, but this really drove it home. Sure there are some millennials who cannot accept that they are aging, but this whole video was just using a whole generation as a punching bag again. This has been an increasing trend over the past 5-6 months. I used to love Salem, but her content over the past several months has felt very mean girl.
Okay I thought I was going crazy bcuz I noticed the same thing. Before, her content was on different controversies and social issues, but lately it just feels like she’s has had a vendetta against certain groups and using her vids to justify her views. Don’t get me wrong, her views are her views and that’s fine. To me, it’s no longer fine when she just uses the millennial demographic as a punching bag with shallow level media instead of looking further into the issue and seeing if there even is one. It’s kinda icky.
When u get older thing change in ur perception. When u watch ur family dynamic change through repeated death of ur elders, u start to understand why it’s important to accept the roles that become vacant. U have to know fill that role and that’s okay. It means ur important to many.

Millennial who was aggressively carded to even just buy spray paint until recently, and lemme tell you saying that isnt a flex. Its not something I say for validation its more annoying than anything. I have only ever felt concern for the gen z's because the use of fillers or really powerful skincare because its way more permanent than young people seem to realize. See: Kylie's puffy face and migrating filler. Like a lot of this is permanent please always consider the long term effects of this kind of stuff!
The other half is that a lot of styles Gen Z are empracing are what millennials parents embraced so it reads Middle Aged. Like the gal with the big glasses and the crown braids I legit think her styling is what is aging her. It isnt bad btw, style yourself however feels good for you, but if you want to look younger switching up your style can help with that.

More MATURE seems accurate. And it’s not a dig by any means. When I was in my 20’s I didn’t have RUclips makeup tutorials, and hair tutorials etc. so our makeup skills were um…less than stellar to put it nicely. So seeing these 20 somethings all done up with perfect makeup signals in MY MIND that they are older than they are. Not that they “look old” but their aesthetic in general looks more mature, seasoned, and put together than people in their 20’s when I was their age.
