  • This is a debate that I often have with top sport parents that I encounter. The reality is that there is not enough time in a day, and kids are more busy and active than ever. So how do you utilise their time.
The big thing is to prioritise. In our family. music is important and so is academic. Sport should be treated as a hobby. At the end of the day, Mei Linh and our other two kids will never be a professional badminton player. They are very good as it is. If they dedicate all their free time to badminton, they will miss out on so many other sports like squash, golf, table tennis, pickleball etc. Mei Linh also does maths twice a week, which will come with a lot of homework. The also does violin and singing and orchestra.
So the reality is, while it is a bit disappointed that she will unlikely get into the New Zealand badminton team because of the little amount of time she spend on badminton (compare to the top kids), she excells at so many activities that are taking place in her life.
For us, balance and all-rounder is the key.
    What are your thoughts?
