  • A Team Fortress 2 Movie Trailer!
    for a not-so-real team fortress 2 movie!
    I made this video as a means of getting back into the swing of using SFM. I wanted to approach a project with a lot of ideas for scenes but without a story to stitch them together - so I just compiled them into a mock trailer for a TF2-themed movie! Let me know what you think!
    I'm hoping to get back into the swing of making content like this, so stay tuned for more video content (hopefully) soon! I pinky promise
    WORKSHOP CREDITS: (too big to fit in a youtube description, so I'll need to compile them elsewhere, I'll get around to that soon)
    thanks for watching!
    CREDITS:
    Anomi - Directing, Animating, SFM
    Fomi - Direct Feedback, Movie Title

    This makes me wonder how a movie made entirely using Source Filmmaker might do in a real life movie theatre. Like, Valve decides to make a movie using nothing but Source Filmmaker (maybe using one of their IPs or creating a new one) and ships it to the box office. I can only imagine how some people might react.

    • @Anomidae
      @Anomidae  3 года назад +59

      TBH, SFM isn't the issue because it's SFM - it has more to do with the toolset being VERY unfriendly towards big project formats, like a feature film.
      The render/visual strength of SFM is actually not the issue either, it's moreso the fact that SFM tries to be an all-in-one, whereas a movie production uses multiple programs in a well constructed pipeline. SFM just doesn't have a great place in a pipeline required for a movie!
      That being said, it's no way impossible. Very possible actually, and I think with enough time n dedication a handful of animators and mappers could make a feature length movie to this quality standard easily!

    I think I came to a story.
    It would start with the mercenaries fighting in 2Fort, with some inside jokes from the community in it (for fanservice) and with the administrator showing that she has control of both teams, moving on to other scenarios where you see the game modes, such as Spy stealing intelligence, Heavy and Soldier capturing a control point, Engy defending, Scout being Scout and Pyro taunting. Then we go behind the scenes, the administrator orders Pauling to inform Redman and Blutarch of the progress of their mercenaries and we see how they both live in a mansion divided into two colors, with a huge corridor that summarizes the history of both brothers through portraits, even Pauling finds them still arguing. The next scene would be of the mercenaries in their day to day, it turns out that they all work for both sides and Engy and Medic simply duplicate them using a Respawn machine, which broke down but Endy manages to repair it before it causes any monster. Medic takes Solider's bread before he can teleport him away, Spy and Scout argue, only for Scout to try to talk to Miss Pauling, who is still at the Mann house, she has to hang up as GreMann arrives, killing the brothers and chasing Pauling, who refuses to participate in an unheard evil plan. In the end she escapes and is replaced by the civilian, the new secretary. At the mercenaries' base an alarm goes off and it leads SAXTON HALE, whom they recognize (after much thought) as the owner of Mannco. There we see an epic flashback where Grayman used his daughter to take control of Mannco and Hale flees trying to be executed by Grayman's mercenaries (the ones in ski masks), Hale says he doesn't know what their plans are but he comes here to recover until the girl is legally old enough to beat her in combat. Just when he was about to start a new round, the administrator does not appear, instead, Pauling warns both teams to return to normal because they have to flee, Greymann's robots arrived. The rest of the film is the mercenaries fleeing through deserts and tundras in the company of Pauling, trying to find a way to deal with Greymann and to find the administrator. Several things would be revealed there, such as Engi was the one who made them the Australium life supports, that Soldier was never in a war, that Spy and Scout already knew each other from before (they simply deny being related as father and son) that Demoman and Soldier are roomates because Soldier was kicked out by his old roommate, and that Sniper is adopted Superman-style, because the Australians left him behind before going to live in space in floating cities and this fell in new zealand Meanwhile, Saxton keeps disguising the base as ancient Egypt or a medieval castle, to confuse the robots. Everything ends in a Mann vs. machine assault on the Mannco building where Graymann is surprisingly assassinated by the administrator, who is positioned as the new director of the wars between mercenaries, thanks to the fact that she has lived longer than the Mann brothers, thanks to the fact that, once again, Engi was commissioned to do life extension. Saxton gets her old position back and ends up "adopting" Graymann's daughter, taking her to Australia to hunt Yetis (that makes more sense when you think about it). In the end, it is revealed that the Mercenaries' new enemy will be Soldier's former roomate, Merasmus, who has the Demoman's eye in a jar.
