I see some people commenting their Xbox 360 is still freezing or getting RRoD. That is because if you have a motherboard prior to Jasper, the solder for the onboard chips is of poor quality and prone to cracking. You need to send the console off to get the onboard chips reballed. There are reballing services on eBay that will replace the chips with quality solder and is the permanent fix for RRoD. I have a Xenon (1st gen) motherboard that I sent off to be reballed, and I have replaced the heatsink with the improved one from falcon boards with fresh thermal paste, and fans set to 100%. It has not caused me problems in 14 years.
yes The RRoD can be fixed and prevented by replacing the thermal paste often, and this video is for repaste ONLY, not a 100% fix for RRoD. as you mentioned the the issue is from the solder balls under the GPU , because the chips are BGA designad chips. and it's not because of the bad quality solders, its because of bad quality heatsink that dries the solder balls to a point that creates a resistance or a crack because of over heating and cooling. we do reballing for the BGA chips in the store for our clients. also setting the fan speed to 100% its not a good idea : one for the dust buildup will be very fast and resulting to fan failure and over heating, i would recommend you ro set the fan to 70-75% with a help of a resistor, apart that it's very loud at 100% 🤣 i do appreciate the feedback and your support regarding the RRoD issue.
@@uFixTek Delta fans can handle 100% SMC speed as is designed by target temps. You are thinking of a 9V mod which is a true 100% speed of the fan capabilities. That being said neither fan tweak should cause issues as long as the end user maintains proper sanitary practices such as the occasional compressed air blow out. Also the solder is ABSOLUTELY the problem on pre-jasper boards. Microsoft outsourced their lead-free solder formula for their production board which they needed at the 11th hour due to new environmental laws. It was later publicly announced both to investors and media in a post mortem that the lead free solder they were using caused cracking from rapid heating and cooling, something a proper factory formula or lead solder does not have issues with. The BGA chips were later downscaled and a new solder application was used in Jasper models onward. I love your tutorial here though. I was just putting the comment here for the other viewers that still can't figure out why they are not able to fix their systems after a nice fresh repaste :)
much appreciate all the info and support. there is so much marketing going into the laptops and consoles so they don't last longer as it's not profitable for the companies. they do have their own area for "by design make it don't last". it's profitable for us as repair centers but horrible for consumers. i been in this business for over 17 years and i could write a book on how they have progressed from making a good solid circuit to new modern horrible circuits that are made to fail. the best e.g is the chargers on TV consoles and laptops. back in the time they made power supply for consoles with extra overhead protection 30-40% they could hold a good about of high wave of voltage, but now they are going with exactly what they electronic agreement of every country and that's 5-8% over head. that's why they burn so easy. the same for laptops, they give you a laptop with a 4amp charger but they don't tell you that you need a 6amp if you want to run the laptop and if the battery is under 50%. the 4amp is good for when your battery if fully charged and 4am goes to run the board. but when the battery is low it requires over 4amp, therefore that starts to over heat the charger and soon later end up buying new one. Should the X-clamps move at all after they are inserted? Mine are moving quite a bit. I did try putting the screws back in to see what would happen and they stopped moving, but I don’t remember them moving at all during the disassembly even after I took the screws out. I also noticed in your video you mentioned tightening them with pliers after putting them back on after the repaste and I was wondering if this is what I should do.
🫠Regarding your question, if you placed the x-clamps it will have a wiggle room always, don't worry if your xclamp got hooked to the screw rods then just place the tray and screw it from other end and it will tight it self to the board.
I have a Jasper Arcade with swapped bottom and top grey shells from 2005-2006 Xbox 360s. However, the power button doesn't click now. The original Arcade bottom and top plates are broken so I can't troubleshoot but the power button was clicking previously. Do these not fit or did I do something wrong?
Thanks for the video it helped me alot on my new 360 but after having put it all back together it seems I've made some kind of mistake and now the optical drive is loose inside the console? Is this normal? I flip the console upside down and hear/ see it coming out of and back into? (I hope) the place you/I left it before sealing it back up. I googled and asked on reddit and seems I've apparently done something wrong to do with the 6 5cm screws. Please help!

Writing back. When I tried to lift the tabs on the front section of my XBOX 360, they come off. Fortunately I was able to secure another fat XBOX 360 case, but how should I proceed in removing the XBOX 360 tabs in the front this time around?
Thank you for your feedback! If you wish to support the channel, you can like, subscribe, or both! Regarding your question, it all depends the plastic if it is very old and dry they tend to break but, try lifting them with a plastic card and it will slid over the clips.

Don't use a screwdriver or any sharp tools while removing the heatsink because if you are not careful enough, you will scratch the motherboard's pattern (roads.) It is a pain in the ass fixing it. I made this mistake a long time ago. I will never forget it.

Great video man, what should I do with the left over screws and parts after I put it back together?
Thank you for the feedback! if you wish to support the channel you can LIKE or SUB or both :P
regarding your question: Keep them and when you open next time try to find the place for them, most of the screws are not important :)
I did this with a Jasper Mobo, which worked before and then it got three flashing red lights with error code 0002, I dont know what to do now.
You didn't use good quality thermal paste, and/or the heatsink bracket was not placed properly.
Same for me. With two Boxes 🤣 maybe we braked the CPU/GPU soldering..
Great tutorial. Thanks

Do all fat XBOX 360 HDMI cases like Falcon and Jasper differ? I've been looking for cases and while most descriptions for HDMI cases say they're for HDMI cases, they don't specify what motherboard they support, they're all generalised.
So my question is: do non-Xenon fat HDMI cases differ at all?
Thank you for your feedback! If you wish to support the channel, you can like, subscribe, or both!
Regarding your question, the xbox 360 the HDMI model the case is the same and none HDMI are the same.
This helps since I have to repaste my Xenon.

A somewhat breath of fresh air screw wise compared to the Wii, but I still managed to cut myself with the metal X's on the back. The X's were the only difficulty during disassembly.
Still top tier tutorial. Cheers

If my XBOX 360 is modded with an RGH, can I still handle the cleaning the same way?

Regarding your question, yes my friend it will be fine and no need to worry.

the two core is gpu or cpu?
CPU GPU is a dedicated BGA chip
Can I wipe off old thermal grease on the CPU/GPU the same way I wipe thermal grease off computer processors, by using a lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol?
Regarding your question, yes you can that is totally 100% safe and the proper way of doing it.
Should you have any further questions or requests in the future, please don't hesitate to ask me.

@@uFixTek Is it REALLY safe to use Q-tips to clean away paste on the space surrounding the processor and the GPU?
Can I use something other than alcohol??
Thank you for your feedback! If you wish to support the channel, you can like, subscribe, or both!
Regarding your question, we don't recommend anything that is not an 90%+ isopropyl alcohol
you can damage the components if you do use other materials.
@@uFixTek thank you

@@uFixTek Thanks!
my pleasure.
I have a Jasper Arcade with swapped bottom and top grey shells from 2005-2006 Xbox 360s. However, the power button doesn't click now. The original Arcade bottom and top plates are broken so I can't troubleshoot but the power button was clicking previously. Do these not fit or did I do something wrong?
the plastic is not reaching the button to be able to push they are different heights.
@@uFixTekDo you recommend I get a new faceplate or is it an internal problem?
Thanks for the video it helped me alot on my new 360 but after having put it all back together it seems I've made some kind of mistake and now the optical drive is loose inside the console? Is this normal? I flip the console upside down and hear/ see it coming out of and back into? (I hope) the place you/I left it before sealing it back up. I googled and asked on reddit and seems I've apparently done something wrong to do with the 6 5cm screws. Please help!

Regarding your question, don't worry about the DVD moving it is 100% ok, and nothing will happen, you may have not placed the drive correctly or tighten the long screws on the metal cover.

@@uFixTek Now that's something no one told me. What kind of plastic card?
@@uFixTek Never mind, I've got plenty. Thank you.
@@uFixTek Will something as flat as a plastic card break the tabs if handled incorrectly?
very hard just slide the card under clips and use it as ramp to slide the cover back.
Where do I get the paste from
🫠Regarding your question, everything is linked in the video description.

My motherboard got scratched doing the x clamps
you have to be carefull when removing the xclams 😔 if the motherboard traces are not damaged then you should be fine
My xbox graphics temperature gets hot in 10 minutes and turns off,i hope this fixes it
it will for sure help, just make sure you use a good quality thermal paste.

@@uFixTek thank you ,working great now
awesome 🫠👍
I've still got 2 working xenons :)
service them and keep them they are well made models.
@@uFixTek I heard they were made poorly?
they made two versions 2nd one was made with much better heatsink (with copper pipes), the 1st version had a horrible heatsink.
Don't use a screwdriver or any sharp tools while removing the heatsink because if you are not careful enough, you will scratch the motherboard's pattern (roads.) It is a pain in the ass fixing it. I made this mistake a long time ago. I will never forget it.
i would agree with but the tools made for remove the X-Clamp are metal anyways, but as you say one must be very careful not scratching the pads on board. Just take your time doing it.

2005 model
on the sticker at the back of the console it says MODEL: XXXXX give me that number

i think i did something wrong i got red ring of death now
make sure you installed the x-clamp under the CPU correctly and you have not damaged any capacitors in the middle of the clamp.
