- 16 Minutes of Rainy Day and Golden Hour Planesopotting during Charlotte's rush-hour air traffic, on a beautiful June afternoon/ evening!
This day was one of my most favorite days out at CLT for it's amazing air traffic, weather, and events! June 6, 2024 was the sneak peek of the new Overlook for specially invited guests including employees and planespotters! We were invited to see the new overlook before it opened to the public the morning after and during this time, I got to meet many fellow aviation enthusiasts and planespotters! It was an amazing time down at CLT and I hope the airport can host more spotter meetups in the future!!
This day was also an amazing day for weather because I was able to practice spotting with both golden hour lighting and rain when an afternoon storm came through! The rain stopped after about 20 minutes and I was able to get footage of the amazing aircraft action on the wet tarmac and eventually the beautiful golden hour lighting!
A main point I would like to add in this video is the interesting takeoff done by the UPS A300 (N121UP) when it took-off from a taxiway point on the runway, leaving it much less room to stop if it had to abort takeoff! Something I have never seen done at CLT before!
I’m still currently working on the stabilization process for filming with both handheld and using a tripod as well as fixing the constant AF adjusting 😅. Practice makes perfect!
For me,tripod is hard so I always do handheld with my camcorder I do stabilize my videos with some software but my tripod has always been kinda bad as it always go unlevel when I pan lol
@@theaviationastronomychannel my tripod works fine, it just gets stuck when you’re panning slowly which results in a glitching sort of look rather than a smooth pan with the aircraft. My camera is a mirrorless so the built in stabilization isn’t good at all
@@jwaviation16ya mirrorless cameras are great but I decided to get the Sony AX53 which is good for video I used to have a Canon DSLR that was pretty bad it had no stabilization 😅 but ya I gotta get used to my tripod more as I am used to handheld use..
@@theaviationastronomychannel I never even realized till a week ago that I should’ve gotten an upgraded bridge camera rather than the Sony A7iii…
It’s great for photography but my main focus is for videos and I could’ve gotten a camera that focuses more on videography instead and saved a lot of money 😑
i was literally about to comment how stable the video is and aswell as keeping up with the plane! practice does make perfect!!

Go see LA flights at Charlotte Douglas on July 15-17, sadly I’m on vacation and will miss it, I’m so sad😢
Unfortunately I won’t be able to go down there those days. Monday the 15th I’ll be at HKY to see some Harriers fly in ;)

Sadly I think you didn’t catch it cuz I was in a layover for like 3 hours. I was heading out to LAX. Then to MSP and then to BOS
It was also pretty chaotic, I narrowly missed my flight from MSP to BOS since the flight from LAX was delayed by an hour!
Thank god that Delta’s 737-900ER brought me to MSP and Delta’s A321neo to BOS!
@@BostonAviaton oh okay, yeah I was only there for about 2 hours. Connecting flights are always an adventure haha
Any viewing or observation decks in the Charlotte Airport for photography?
Great vid! I enjoy going plane spotting but I can’t figure out how to take good video footage like yours. So I have learned to stick with photos. What camera do you use?
@@mr.lavawolf I use the Sony A7iii but I’ll give you the advice I wished other photographers/ videographers had given me.
If you’re looking for a camera that can give both high quality videos and pictures, but mainly focuses on videos I would suggest something like the Sony Rx10IV.
If you’re looking for a camera that has great quality for both but want to focus more on photography, I’d look towards something like the Sony A7iii like I have.
@@jwaviation16 thank you! I was gifted an old cannon EOS rebel ti1 for my birthday and I can tell you, It’s definitely on oldie. It can take decent pictures, but the video is unbearable. To the point my phone can take a better video. Thank you for for the advice!

@@jwaviation16 since my visit in late march they scrapped the dc-10 N228NW and brought in a canyon blue 737, registration painted over, i was there in early july
@@philipi5759 that’s most likely the Southwest 737-300 that flew there in 2016. It was moved over to the terminal area to be displayed for a fly-in that was held in May and they probably just never put it back
