+zboo13 Was it released before the voting for the last vid happened? Im not stupid enough to miss the combo vid that was made for him only 2 days ago. Like seriously? Thus why I wrote that GR "had not" made any combo video at the time.
For getting on the stage, I'd say Fox. He keeps most of his invincibility from ledgedash, and has several options to punish whiffed attacks, he can also scar jump on Yoshi's for mix-ups, and on Yoshi's has an invincible haxdash from the side platform. Also, he can waveland on the side platform of Yoshi's and make it to the end while still invincible.
+FrackleBomb Super easy, guys. First off, you need to be hitting an actual target, you can't really whiff gentleman reliably. Second, just hold A after your 3rd press. A, A, (A)hold
On stages with platforms, Mewtwo. It's still difficult to get the right timing to slide off the platforms and cancel the landing lag of the teleport, but assuming you pilot him properly, the option is great and can be mixed up with other directions or with a ledge stall. In P:M it's even better btw.
+SSBM Tutorials what are the button inputs for the up b stall? when i do it, i tap back and instantly do up b but he just does the firebird right at the ledge and doesnt grab it..help please
that's how it's done. There is also a small angle (up and back) where it will both let go and up B at the same time. If it doesn't regrab then it's spaced wrong, you could have started the up B too low, too high, or too far away
+InfiniteIdeas he also can downb ledge stall with full invincibiltiy, has a usable haxdash and can do invincible uair/nair/neutral-b/parry from ledge. and tournament winner is more safe with armour on jump :D
+InfiniteIdeas ya either yoshi or fox by a large margin. but because i don't know as much about yoshis match-ups as fox I will have to go with fox just because he has several invisible ledge options and I have an idea of his character match ups.
+reVerb troll detected...? Tournament winner is when you're on the ledge and jump from it, you don't ledge drop double jump. Tournament winner is when you press x, y or hold up when you're hanging around on the ledge.
I didn't know Falco's ledgejump was considered to be a useless option. Another lesson learned, I was actually toying with that thinking that possibly there could be a way to get a dair to come out... Thanks sensei Kappa
i misunderstood the question i thought it mwant overall recovery cause then id probably say pikachu, but best opions from the ledge to get back on stage? probs Fox, falco marth or jigs?
so... this video opens with letting go of the ledge ASAP. I was watching m2k explain some shit on an other video and he mentioned buffering the ledge release and i'm not sure how to do that. could anyone explain?
In a theoretical world, fox is number one on the ledge with an invince ledgestall that has a hitbox and a whopping 15 frames of actionable invincibility off the ledgedash. Falco would be a close second with a slightly less effective ledgestall and 1 less frame of invincibility, coupled with his longer jumpsquat makes his options all a bit more sluggish. In the current meta, sheik is probably the best because her ledgestall is extremely easy to perform and she still has a great (11 frames) ledgedash as well as other options that demand respect such as ledgehop fair regrab. Marth is also good on the ledge in the current meta but only because of the huge risk/reward factor of challenging him at the ledge, not because of his actual frame data. His ledgehop fair and nair are good options but easy to punish and his ledgedash is one of the lesser among the top tiers (4 frames). So overall, fox then falco once/if people get more consistent with their techskill, but at the moment sheik then marth because of the fear factor and ease of execution.
Yoshi, for DJ armor and ECE, second is Fox for his crazy invincible ledge dash. It could be the other way around as well, depending if Yoshi is at kill %
It would really help showing the button you use while on ledg. Ive been trying to use x or y to hop up from after letting go of ledge with Down and kept coming up beneath the ledge, finally i figured out you have to let go of ledge with left arrow and immediately rotate the stick to tap jump, then move it slight right to get on the ledge in yoshis story
Awesome vid ssbm tutorials! Can you do an up b stall tutorial, ik how to do it only if i shine off the ledge then jump b, but i see people do it so fast! I think best character for getting back on stage is fox, dat up b range and side b as well as invincible ledge options make him rly good if played correctly from the videos i watch
Falco and Fox for their crazy amount of options, but Pikachu is up there. he has tons of options off of invincible ledge dash including a few combo starters.
How do you side b cancel on yoshi's? You mentioned that it can be done on each stage but didn't specifically address yoshi's, and I can't seem to figure out the spacing on my own...
only if they mess up spacing and are too close to the ledge. Very rarely recommended vs competent players, although there are some decent mixups available
Also, rising pound for stupid good vertical and horizontal distances, ability to grab ledge quickly out of air dodge, and ability to use aerials and bait opponents while getting back to the stage. But to be fair, she can only use her jumps once unlike an up-b, so that can sometimes mess you up.
+nadroj347 the question wasn't recovery in general but getting from the ledge to the stage safely, i.e Peach has great recovery but sucks at getting from the ledge to stage. For my money it is probably Fox or Falco.
+Liam Foote He specified it was in a non-edge guard situation just for being able to make it back on-stage. So basically, recovery is the only thing taken into account, and ledge options aren't included. In this case, I've found that Mewtwo and Pichu can recover from the most situations and positions off-stage.
Yo lord tho, first tourney i ever watched was the next episode in that sweet ass venue. The lord and s2j exhibition at the end was what got me into competitive melee lol

Who is the best at getting back to stage Id say; Mewtwo,Sheik/Zelda and Peach
Fox and Falco are pretty close as far as ledge options but I think it goes to Fox because of Ledgedash Shine. I don't need to go into why it's good, but it's more reliable than Falco's LD Shine due to the shine hitbox for Falco being so small. It can still be effective though.
+Aaron Philpot He specified it was in a non-edge guard situation just for being able to make it back on-stage. So basically, recovery is the only thing taken into account, and ledge options aren't included. In this case, I've found that Mewtwo and Pichu can recover from the most situations and positions off-stage.
No he was referring to the topic of the video. Options from the ledge to get back on stage. Listen again please. Then you can debate me about options. I can't disagree that Mewtwo has the best recovery though.
+Mahkram Saile I was confused a bit at first because of the wording. However, he states that it's in a non-edge guard situation. There's no reason to talk about recovery if there's no one edge guarding you. It should've been worded as FROM the edge not off the edge.
It can be good if they are in lag near the ledge and you know you can hit them but otherwise yeah let it stick to edgeguarding. and even then you don't want to do a high one like you would getting on stage
yeah it can be. for edgeguarding you'd want to drop low before double jumping but if you did it to get on stage you'd probably double jump instantly with the dair
Jigglypuff at mid and high levels of play. The answer depends on whether we mean for most players or potential peak play right? Cause at theoretical peak play, Fox has total invincibility every single time.
+Slashtap3 He specified it was in a non-edge guard situation just for being able to make it back on-stage. So basically, recovery is the only thing taken into account, and ledge options aren't included. In this case, I've found that Mewtwo and Pichu can recover from the most situations and positions off-stage.
There are tons of guides out there but basically: -For up-B stall, you tap the control stick in the direction opposite the ledge (to let go) and VERY QUICKLY slide the stick upwards and press B at the same time. Think of it like a quarter circle motion. -For ledgedash, basically you want to let go of the edge (preferrably by holding down on the stick), then jump at a certain timing so that you're slightly above the ledge, and then wavedash(land) onto the stage. It's important to be quick enough so that you can take full advantage of the invincibility, but not too fast that you accidently airdodge below the ledge and SD. Good luck!
+TurbinationE When I do the up b stall I press back then instantly up b, pressing down also works but if you're skrubby like me you might accidentally fast fall below the ledge. Btw you're right you don't have to hold the stick towards the stage. Oh and also ledgedashing is dropping/backing off the ledge, instantly jumping, and then air dodging onto the stage/platform at the right height to wave land on it
+Drew William Yeah, I think I'm pretty comfortable with my method. It's all about what you get used to first, I'm pretty sure if I tried the c-stick way I'd be too slow lol
I'd say Yoshi (eggs or ledgedash + stall variation), or Sheik (walljump Bair, Shinostall, ledgedash...) + does anyone eard of CT EMP Ledge AKA Mew2King ? Both sick because very safe on the ledge and punish pretty hard.
Huh, I didn't actually know people struggled getting off the ledge with Falco, I always figured he had so many good options that it wasn't really an issue. Well if I may ask, what do you do as Falcon vs Falco's double lasers?
+xSol Badguy Grab->dthrow->dropzone Maaaybe you can squeeze an upair between the lasers if you read the LHDL and SH, first hit nair->grab could also work, I'm bad tho. Hard read with aerial side-b!? :D
+xSol Badguy With any character you can eat the first laser and hit or grab Falco out of the 2nd laser. Otherwise you can dtilt if he goes too high, jump and stomp/bair/knee on top of the lasers
+Hakuba Thanks for the Answer, i ckecked it but now i found out that there are also in NTSC different versions. So Version 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. does the tournaments use the 1.0 version ? If you know the answer and help me it were great man. Kinda complicated question I know :o
+Hakuba get version .02 usually referred to as gale 02 from the writing on the disc. The earlier version have some different frame data and hitboxes if i remember correctly
+omgimgfut There are a lot of tricks on yoshi's, you can definitely try it yourself but the one we showed in the video included wavelanding off the side platform and cancelling on the top one.
Marth really has sick range and can easily make people fear him with a fair or something. falcon with that haxdash is pretty dope too. I think Puff has the easiest way to get back, just bair spam ez $$$
Imo Falcon probably has the best ledge game, his nair, dair and fair are all super punishing moves. Combining those moves with ledge invincibility and your opponent is screwed if they make any mistakes, getting to the ledge on the other hand is a different story.
First off i want to say i love your tutorials! i´ve watched nearly all of them and i´ve learnt a lot! Second i wish to ask you if you could do a tutorial on how to deal with Falco´s that camp/ approach with lazers. Thanks!
OK, the character who has the easiest time getting back onstage is clearly Mewtwo. MewTwo has amazing recovery, with very slow falling speed, pretty good Up-B, and godlike double jump. I found that on FD I could recover from almost anywhere with Mewtwo. People might argue that Peach has the best, but when you're far enough below stage you're just done for, that's not the case for Mewtwo because his double jump Up-B covers so much space. Another argument might be JigglyPuff, but Mewtwo has MUCH better vertical recovery, making his recovery better in many more situations. Pichu was a VERY close second to Mewtwo, having amazing vertical and horizontal recovery, using side-B and Quick Attack to be able to recover from so many bad positions off-stage. People might assume that Pikachu is automatically tied with Pichu, being basically the same, but not even close. Pichu apparently has many more angles on his Quick Attack than Pikachu, and can virtually use the same angle for both parts of it, making his Up-B better in many situations where you must optimally recover both horizontally and vertically. Samus' vertical recovery wasn't good enough to really make it and compete with the others, but in any other instance I would say Samus' is at least better than most. Luigi actually isn't really close at all with the competitors on this list, since his horizontal recovery is completely dependent on side-B, which can't really be used when recovering vertically, and his vertical recovery overall isn't that great Remember that this contest was all about simply getting back to the stage and he specified that this was not in an edgeguard situation. If this were taking into account general off-stage game (such as susceptibility to gimps/edgeguards, lag time on recovery, ledge options, gimping ability, etc) the list might have been different, but for this specific question, Mewtwo is the best with Pichu following closely behind.
Is there any definitive evidence that double laser is not safe from the ledge? It seems to work a lot more than it should, EVEN when players are expecting it. Everyone keeps saying it, but no one has shown any evidence.
You see, I wnt to pick up falco, because lasers and down air, but I'm so damn used to foxes fast jumpsquat that it feels like years of delay wavedash with falco. EDIT: 1:20 thats not safe my guy.
Sooo for characters that can get back....I'd have to say Either Luigi because....Just the misfire XD. Its a gamble and it has a possibility to change an entire game around and get back to stage the funniest/awesome way possible.
Best character at getting back onto the stage from the ledge? Probably puff. Hbox has shown how good puff is at the ledge, and how one mistake from the opponent can lead to a death if puff executes correctly.

+SSBM Tutorials n0ne and s2j are flashier than hax$
+SSBM Tutorials Shiek gets my vote.
+SSBM Tutorials bruh mango has the swaggiest falcon wtf is this list on about.
+SSBM Tutorials Sheik or maybe pikachu, or jiggs
Best smash characters for making it back. Well, Mewtwo and Roy. I mean it's obvious. They came back in smash 4.
+Daniel Chapman lmao
The contest was swaggest falcon and N0ne wasn't an option?
+jared sadoques it was but he didn't get enough votes to get into top 3
GR smash hadn't made a video on him yet.... thus the lack of swaggy falcon knowledge
+SuperCatacata yes he has..
+zboo13 Was it released before the voting for the last vid happened? Im not stupid enough to miss the combo vid that was made for him only 2 days ago. Like seriously? Thus why I wrote that GR "had not" made any combo video at the time.
+SuperCatacata Easy killer, you seem upset.
m2k is the best character on ledge :§
I mean if we're judging them by their ability to get back on the stage m2k certainly loses lmao.
Can you do a video on Captain Falcon and How to Gentlemen?
+Boom Dixon I second this, I need a Gentleman tutorial
+Boom Dixon Press A three times to jab and immediately press Z after the third jab. It's pretty easy to do once you get the timing down.
+FrackleBomb Super easy, guys. First off, you need to be hitting an actual target, you can't really whiff gentleman reliably. Second, just hold A after your 3rd press. A, A, (A)hold
P5YCHO7 You're a hero

What about get up attack? I've found there are situations in which that can be useful.
Fox. Having an invincible kill move or invincible combo starter is just insane.
Luigi has a great invincible ledge dash and can also edge hop -> dair or fair -> fair or nair or fast fall
Yoshi's ledge dash and eggs are sick for covering your return to the ledge.
Is there a tutorial to ledge stall with up b? I can't pull it off
When I press up-B while hanging on the ledge it doesn’t do anything. How do you do it?
so... this video opens with letting go of the ledge ASAP.
I think samus since she has bombs to basically recover from any distance, as well as her grab to recover from beneath stage.
Can we get this for Marth?
Man, I do ledge hop dair way too fucking much.
falcon has a shit ton of options off ledge and his attacks off ledge are really good
you can also side-b cancel on yoshi if you walljump, kinda strict tho and not that useful
Yoshi for comment wars. He can basically regain control of center stage from the ledge with eggs from what I can tell which is nutty.
+xpgbodomhc1 You don't have to, you can use any method you like. I personally use Y, some use X, some people use the control stick like you do
Is there a way u could make a falcon punish game tutorial?
Awesome vid ssbm tutorials! Can you do an up b stall tutorial, ik how to do it only if i shine off the ledge then jump b, but i see people do it so fast! Falco and Fox for their crazy amount of options, but Pikachu is up there. he has tons of options off of invincible ledge dash including a few combo starters.
I'd say Samus. Down-b gets ya some distance along with a double jump into up-b or tether if close enough
On Yoshi's Story with Fox, you can wave land onto the platform and still have invincibility frames so you can attack or gtfo
How do you side b cancel on yoshi's? You mentioned that it can be done on each stage but didn't specifically address yoshi's, and I can't seem to figure out the spacing on my own...
It is shown at 1:37 in the video
SSBM Tutorials Is it only possible on the top platform then?
if you start from the ledge yes. maybe you can scar jump away to ledge cancel on the side platform or use randall
SSBM Tutorials thanks!
Can you please do a video about falco oos options?
Fox McClouds ledge dash is sick probably makes him the best. but i can see shiek being really good too just look at how m2k does it
What exactly is the "Tournament Winner?" I hear commentators refer to it all the time but I have no clue what it actually is.
press Y/X from the ledge
the tournament winner
in what situations would dair onto the stage be useful? is it recommended at all?
only if they mess up spacing and are too close to the ledge. Very rarely recommended vs competent players, although there are some decent mixups available
but I thought falco just dair's his way to victory?
does anyone else do shine turn around back air from ledge? It's risky but a noice lookin mixup
how do u double laser back on the stage
+Edy Velazquez We have a tutorial on that. Check our videos!
+SSBM Tutorials thanks kira
fox, that ledgedash is insane
Best recovery is easily Jigglypuff - side B for horizontal and 6 jumps for vertical recovery - it's unparalleled

Who is the best at getting back to stage
Id say; Mewtwo,Sheik/Zelda and Peach
Fox and Falco are pretty close as far as ledge options but I think it goes to Fox because of Ledgedash Shine. I don't need to go into why it's good, but it's more reliable than Falco's LD Shine due to the shine hitbox for Falco being so small. It can still be effective though.
+Aaron Philpot He specified it was in a non-edge guard situation just for being able to make it back on-stage. Ledge hop dair is only good for edgeguarding then?
It can be good if they are in lag near the ledge and you know you can hit them but otherwise yeah let it stick to edgeguarding. and even then you don't want to do a high one like you would getting on stage
Ok thanks! I know it's pretty good for edgeguarding fox when he can't grab the edge from below.
yeah it can be. for edgeguarding you'd want to drop low before double jumping but if you did it to get on stage you'd probably double jump instantly with the dair
I do ledge hop Dair with Falco so much, I hit it a pretty regularly, but I understand why it's bad, I'll be more careful now.
Jigglypuff at mid and high levels of play. The answer depends on whether we mean for most players or potential peak play right? Cause at theoretical peak play, Fox has total invincibility every single time.

How do you up b stall/ledgedash?
Drop from ledge then immediately Up-B. I'm not sure if you have to hold the stick towards the stage after, but I don't think you do.
There are tons of guides out there but basically:
-For up-B stall, you tap the control stick in the direction opposite the ledge (to let go) and VERY QUICKLY slide the stick upwards and press B at the same time. Think of it like a quarter circle motion.
-For ledgedash, basically you want to let go of the edge (preferrably by holding down on the stick), then jump at a certain timing so that you're slightly above the ledge, and then wavedash(land) onto the stage. Btw you're right you don't have to hold the stick towards the stage. +Drew William Yeah, I think I'm pretty comfortable with my method. It's all about what you get used to first, I'm pretty sure if I tried the c-stick way I'd be too slow lol
I honestly didn't even know you could do it with the c-stick lol
I'd say Yoshi (eggs or ledgedash + stall variation),
or Sheik (walljump Bair, Shinostall, ledgedash...) + does anyone eard of CT EMP Ledge AKA Mew2King ?

Guys I heard there are different versions of ssbm ! what version play the tournament players in america ?
+Hakuba NTSC in america, you probably use PAL version
+Hakuba Thanks for the Answer, i ckecked it but now i found out that there are also in NTSC different versions. So Version 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2. does the tournaments use the 1.0 version ? If you know the answer and help me it were great man. Kinda complicated question I know :o
+Hakuba get version .02 usually referred to as gale 02 from the writing on the disc. The earlier version have some different frame data and hitboxes if i remember correctly
+Hakuba 1.02 is most common i believe
It doesn't matter which version of NTSC you have, tournaments will use any
Could you do a video on how to haxdash as Falcon?
at 1:07 you should've done a shine doublejump firebird for the guaranteed kill
Ok but how do i do the up-b refresh?
1. press away from the stage to let go of the ledge
2. roll the control stick upwards and press B
if you're close enough to the ledge you'll regrab it
SSBM Tutorials perfect. ty
Nice video! It is soo sharp!, you are using dolphin?
Do you have a guide on ledge dashing?
Not really. Just let go of the ledge, jump, and wavedash down and towards the stage really fast. takes tons of practice
Pikachu can be incredible at getting back to the stage, especially if you can sweet-spot the up-b.
Mew2king is the best character on the ledge
Can you side-b cancel on yoshi's?
+omgimgfut did you even watch the video?
yes, it said you can side-b cancel on every stage except FD, but then they don't explain how to do it on yoshi's
+omgimgfut There are a lot of tricks on yoshi's, you can definitely try it yourself but the one we showed in the video included wavelanding off the side platform and cancelling on the top one.

Can we have a Falco Drills Video Please?
+Jacob McGuire It will happen I promise
Marth drills too please
+SSBM Tutorials Thank you! Much appreciated! :D
+Jacob McGuire X -> C-stick down Kappa
If these lazers aren't safe how does Mang0 make it work so well?
samus is the best, floaty, bombs,z air and her up b has a big hitbox
Fox is the best on yoshi's story because of his invincible wavedash onto the platform. I would say yoshi and then fox.
Dear SSBM Tutorials,
Will you make a video on how to up b stall? I'm not quite sure on how to do it. I'd really appreciate it if you did that! 😄
+PinguFan360
1. Let go of ledge (press back)
2. roll control stick up
3. press b
practice a thousand times a day
thx
+SSBM Tutorials do you push back all the way or just push it slightly? thnx
all the way but you can do whatever is easier for you
Hi Kira, is the execution for these techniques covered in other videos?
What is the "tournament winner"?
when you do that really high flip looking animation off the ledge as opposed to just stepping on
Imo Falcon probably has the best ledge game, his nair, dair and fair are all super punishing moves.
Thanks!
+Ltn Mc Bacon You may get your wish very soon =)
+Ltn Mc Bacon Perfect Shield them, git gud
Luigi actually isn't really close at all with the competitors on this list, since his horizontal recovery is completely dependent on side-B, which can't really be used when recovering vertically, and his vertical recovery overall isn't that great
Remember that this contest was all about simply getting back to the stage and he specified that this was not in an edgeguard situation. If this were taking into account general off-stage game (such as susceptibility to gimps/edgeguards, lag time on recovery, ledge options, gimping ability, etc) the list might have been different, but for this specific question, Mewtwo is the best with Pichu following closely behind.
Any tips for finding/entering local tournaments? I'm in Tampa Florida and I can't find anything at ALL. pls halp :(
+MacDeezee Look for your group on FB, there is south florida melee and one other group i think.
Thanks :P
"Tells you the best ways to get back on" "doesn't tell you how to do them"

edgeguarding with peach video?
Fox is the best from the ledge: invincible ledge dash, shine, speed, Nair etc.
Is there any definitive evidence that double laser is not safe from the ledge? It seems to work a lot more than it should, EVEN when players are expecting it. Everyone keeps saying it, but no one has shown any evidence.
+Jack Tanashian It has a good amount of startup and can be punished on read or fast reactions. The Moon apparently punishes it pretty well.
You see, I wnt to pick up falco, because lasers and down air, but I'm so damn used to foxes fast jumpsquat that it feels like years of delay wavedash with falco.
EDIT: 1:20 thats not safe my guy.
My favorite ledge option works on all characters. Stand up, shield.
I need spanish subtitles for all the falco guides, i will thank you so much if you can do that.
it's so weird to see screen rumble on after playing without it for so long
I'd argue Samus, she has bombs, a tether grab, a wall jump and a good hax dash
High level - Fox cuz OP ledgedash
Mid/Low level - Sheik because most people cant punish shino stalling and have to respect it
Sooo for characters that can get back....I'd have to say Either Luigi because....Just the misfire XD. Its a gamble and it has a possibility to change an entire game around and get back to stage the funniest/awesome way possible.
Best ledge game?
1.)Jigglypuff, the air momentum really sells this
2.)Fox, Fast Options and can stall
3.)Yoshi, HowToBasic (Eggs)
isn't this the same question as "Who has the best recovery"question?
The Shiek Shino stall is so money
Captain Falcon grab game?
If you have the patience, 20GX made an hour long video on it, but it's not organized.
TurbinationE I'll check it out
Best character at getting back onto the stage from the ledge? Probably puff. Hbox has shown how good puff is at the ledge, and how one mistake from the opponent can lead to a death if puff executes correctly.
I'd say Pikachu. His up-b allows for bunch of mixups, neutral b is possible, and his ledgedash is invincible.
He's tied with Fox too
Peach Ledge Guide!
I never know what to do when hanging on the ledge..
The tournament winner? Toad?
Young Link actually has amazing ledge options.
Pikachu is really good at sneaking his way back onto the edge imo
Can you make a ledge dash tutorial? :)
+AURON 1. let go of ledge
2. jump
3. airdodge down
practice 1,000,000 times because its hard to do it smoothly
SSBM Tutorials Ok, sounds simpler than it is. :)
+SSBM Tutorials thanks for responding to questions like these! does it matter if you let go of ledge holding down or away? i assume down is easier?
down is probably harder because it makes you fastfall. theoretically it doesnt matter which one you do but away would be most practical
awesome thanks!
Thanks for this, I main Falco.
