My personal lack of insight is simply nobody has told me the symptoms of schizophrenia,
Personal research has been clearing up my doubt about having an illness

someone is unaware of their own mental health condition or that they can't perceive their condition accurately. These are most of the guests on Dr Phil!

This is fascinating. I work in a tertiary mental health and substance use facility with individuals living with schizophrenia. I am a recreation therapist and am curious whether certain activities that stimulate the vestibular system could cause any improvements. Given that the studies show left sided stimulation is key, in its activation of the right hemisphere, I wonder if there is a way to stimulate only the left side with some form of activity. This has really peaked my curiousity, and is encouraging to learn about!

How interesting, Dr. Messamore! I am surprised with this vestibular stimulation technique and its results on anosognosia and manifest phases in schizoaffectives and schizophrenics. This is the first time I have watched "Ask a Psychiatrist". Fantastic!

Thanks for the feedback! It's really unfortunate that this technique has not been given the research attention it deserves. As you can see, it could be paradigm shifting both for how we understand insight in mental illness and for the potential to treat mania or psychosis with relatively gentle brain stimulation instead of with medications. It certainly deserves more study.

@@AskDrErik Yes, that's what I thought right now; it could be game-changing by providing moments of insight to allow for implementing appropriate treatment ! Superb, Dr Messamore!
I am a patient parent and I got to your channel through a link by another psychiatrist.
