I believe part of the trip was covered by a woman driving way too fast given the road conditions alone, much to the scientists who were holding on for dear life.

Back in my govt days, I was on a C-130. This flight was a necessary emergency, so we had no choice. But the kicker was that it was full of munitions and explosives. Other than the crew, I was the only other person onboard. I just remember thinking that if anything happened, I wouldn’t feel a thing. Hell, I probably wouldn’t have even realized I was dead. Fortunately it was really safe. The safety protocols they go thru are quite extensive. As a kid helping on a farm, we had cases of dynamite that we used to clear out beaver dams with (it’s either that or you can’t irrigate your crops). I would go out at night and untwist a stick and then light it on fire with a match. It doesn’t explode….it just burns like very brightly. Almost like a temporary sun. Anyway, explosives are usually quite safe when you treat it with proper respect.

Greatest scientific accomplishment of their time and it looks to be held together with duct tape and chewing gum.. ahh the marvels of our engineering.

ahh it's called a hand built prototype and it seems the engineering did the main thing even if you don't like the presentation.

@@FIREBRAND38nothing about an atomic bomb is pretty, and I'm sure aesthetics were fairly low on the priority list. Just hits me every time I see it how haphazardly thrown together this was. A testament to how much it was truly needed for the war effort.

@@lamegame420 Nothing haphazard about this. The tape you see was only to cover the connections for the ignition wires to keep water and dirt out. It was removed when they inserted the wires.

Tell that to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or NASA, or half of Nazi Germany’s aviation advances.
These “mediocre engineers” laid the blueprints for everything in existence right now that could level the face of this earth. While simultaneously giving the world the internet and laying the infrastructure for you to even be able to read this right now.

This video is, at best, a carefully edited reproduction and merging of photography from other nuclear tests. It is well documented that there were only a few photos that survived the test. See www.osti.gov/opennet/manhattan-project-history/Resources/photo_gallery/trinity_test.htm
