Nice design, well done, Matt. I have a little stool I made in 1980 for my two kids. There is a LOT of wear and tear showing on the pine top, and now the five grandkids have started in on it. It is still going strong, and will safely hold an adult.
Good job, Dad! Keep up the good work. Making a piece of functional furniture for your kid is something they will never forget. When I owned and operated my woodworking business, I made a three legged stool for my first daughter when she was five. Now she is thirty six, and that stool is still getting daily use; she has two kids about the same age she was when I made that stool.
Great job, you made something simple into an elegant and useful piece of furniture. I hope you save these videos for your daughter to look at years from now.
Matt, Any project you make for a daughter is a worthwhile effort. I actually have a sign in my shop that says: "Dad do you think you can make this?" The only thing better than a Dad doing something for his child is when you do it for your Grandkids. Loved this reason for the project!! Two thumbs up!!
Elegant simplicity to it, very nice. Being well made and sturdy I should think she will be telling her grandchildren how their great grandfather made this when she was a child before looking up the "youtube vintage" video for them to have piped direct into their brains to watch you making it. lol!
I leaned a long time ago Matt.... that on a project like this one, I don't worry as much about my craftsmanship as I do my grandkids smile. Nice job buddy keep it up.
That should last a long, long time, Matt. She'll get to tell your grand kids that her daddy made that for her when she was little. Nicely done. Two thumbs up for sure.
Hey Matt, great job! I'll bet you're a pretty good dad, the crayon used for marking your project was a dead give away. Simple, well done and attractive.
Hey Matt that's a simple and handy stool and strong as an ox. Cute young lady too, Looks like she already has many uses for her new stool. As always, good job.Eric
The fact that I just watched a ONE HOUR AD (so I could see your video) is mind blowing! Why would they put an ad this an hour long ANYWHERE on RUclips is crazy! Anyway, great video Matt!
Really nice job Matt, when you glued the legs up you glued both sides . I use to do this , I was told it was wasting a lot of glue , which it was I started glueing one side , less mess same strength joint.
good stuff matt!👍👍 i think your the only person besides myself that have the Craftsman clamps..ive never seen anyone else use them .i love them theyre so handy! have a good one bro!
Wow! Great Build Brother! I like that Bow Clamp Wood Strip Curve Making Tip, you had going! I Especially enjoyed the Crayon Action to keep with the Kid Theme! Thumbs Up & proud to be a subscriber! Have A Super Week!..... Gus
Very cool vid, but how do you get your band saw blade to cut so straight ? even when I use a fence, it wants to drift to the right as I push it through. The saw is a craftsman 14 inch, and has only been used maybe 20-30 times (stock blade) and it just seems to curve to the right a bit, please help,,,, thank you
Just a small correction to your choice of terms. Your Incra miter gauge is not a crosscut sled. I own the same miter gauge plus the crosscut sled attachment from Incra. You've got a beautiful big shop with a lot of expensive power tools to help you. The older I got the more I reverted back to purely hand tools in.my woodworking hobby. Thanks for an interesting project that I built for my niece before you were born. Now she's a grandmother. It's a strange world!
Beautiful simplicity. Nicely executed and your edge treatment took it visually to the next level. To assuage your end grain gluing concern, the dado could have been replaced with a sliding dovetail to add mechanical strength to the joint.
I'm really lucky. I've got a 30x40 building that is going to get turned into my workshop. I just have to get a dead truck out of it and finish a couple of large projects that are in the way. I bought an older Jet (it's probably 30-40 years old) 2.5 hp 220v table saw because it was $600 and had a HEAVY cast iron top. I had to put the thing upside down on my trailer to get it home because it wanted to tup over. I had the motor bearings and brushed replaced and the arbor bearings replaced (that was like $80). It runs awesome now. The fence is awful and I use a long Kreg miter fence with it that I love. I was thinking that dust collection would be easier with one run to the table saw and the Incra below the table router box collectors. Add an out-feed table and I'd have a large work surface for my projects. Have you tried making all the joint templates with it?
+Andrew Tucker That's awesome man! I'd love to have that kinda space. I haven't yet tried any of the dovetail templates. You have to have certain dovetail bits for it and I haven't bought them yet.
Very nice minimalistic stool. I'm watching your videos for some time now and I can tell your skill are great, but p,ease allow me to notice that with the hand saw you have to go with long, slow strokes :-)
Aren't you concerned with lateral support? I realize she is very little but your glue joint has alot of end grain?? I would have added a center brace between the legs. Even just a piece of that 3/4 oak mortised into the legs.
Simple projects for the kids are always the best videos. I love seeing other fathers making items for their kiddos.
+Phillip Rowland
Thanks Phillip, I agree man!
Nice design, well done, Matt. I have a little stool I made in 1980 for my two kids. There is a LOT of wear and tear showing on the pine top, and now the five grandkids have started in on it. It is still going strong, and will safely hold an adult.
+Thomas O'Brien
That's the part I look forward to the most, is seeing this thing down the road as she grows up and passes it on!
Good job, Dad! Keep up the good work.

Thanks, that's awesome:). Hopefully this stool will get the same kind of use!
Great job, you made something simple into an elegant and useful piece of furniture. I hope you save these videos for your daughter to look at years from now.
+alfredesquer
Thank you, I will for sure:)
I enjoy watching the simple projects done well just as much as bigger more adventurous projects. A great stool. Nice job Matt.
+Sharp Edge Woodworking
Thanks brother!
Simple but fantastic. Instruction were clear and concise. I especially liked the contrast between the pine grain and the oak grain.
Matt, Any project you make for a daughter is a worthwhile effort. I actually have a sign in my shop that says: "Dad do you think you can make this?" Thanks Gary, I really appreciate it!!
Dear Matt, thanks for sharing. Simple but elegant. Removing the knots makes the softwood grain pop. Cheers.
Elegant simplicity to it, very nice. Being well made and sturdy I should think she will be telling her grandchildren how their great grandfather made this when she was a child before looking up the "youtube vintage" video for them to have piped direct into their brains to watch you making it. lol!
+caskwith
Haha, thank you. I can imagine the looks on the faces, what is RUclips?
I leaned a long time ago Matt.... that on a project like this one, I don't worry as much about my craftsmanship as I do my grandkids smile. Nice job buddy keep it up.
+Mike Neuhaus
Good point! Thanks Mike!
Great job. A memory for life for your daughter
+Jan Roar Bernhardsen
Thanks Jan!
That should last a long, long time, Matt. She'll get to tell your grand kids that her daddy made that for her when she was little. Nicely done. Two thumbs up for sure.

Thanks man. That's what I hope for!
Be sure and sign & date the underside.
+Thomas O'Brien
Yeah, I'll do that! Thanks

You're welcome man, thanks for watching and always having something positive to say!
That's one beautiful stepper for a beautiful little girl. Blessings for your daughter.
+Angel Luis Trinidad
Thanks man, I appreciate that!!
Matt, I really enjoyed the video. I like your style of explaining the process. The curves and chamfers are a nice touch to lighten up the design.
+inventionaddict
Thanks man!
Hey! The idea of drawing an arc with the squeez clamp is briliant!!! Thanks for sharing.
That came out really nice, Matt! Looks like it'll last a few lifetimes and it's always neat when you make something for your daughter.
+Carter Wilson Workshop
Thanks dude!
Good job Matt. For a simple project you really added some nice subtle touches. Well done.

Hey Matt, I can see myself using something like this to step while I play my guitar, great! And your daughter has yours eyes. Thanks from Brazil!!!
+Gustavo Braz
Thanks man!!! Thank you for watching!
Great simple project, Matt. Could easily see that scaled up into a really cool table/desk.
+Crafted Workshop
Yeah, I am thinking about building a hall table in a very similar fashion now.

+Tommie Strydom
Thank you, it's funny how the subtle things can make the biggest differences in a project.
Hey Matt, great job! I'll bet you're a pretty good dad, the crayon used for marking your project was a dead give away. Simple, well done and attractive.
+Rick
thanks man, we definitely have fun in my house haha
Good job Matt. This will probably be handed down from one generation to the next.
+Chem Cody
Thanks man, that's the hope :)

Anyway, great video Matt!
haha, you're more patient than I am! Thanks for watching!
I really like how you used the squeeze clamps to get your curves.
How to turn a simple looking stool, into a work of Art. Well Done and a thumbs up from me, Excellent piece of work.

+Barry Roberts
Thanks Barry, as always, much appreciated
This is awesome, Matt! I enjoy watching your work!

Thank you, I really appreciate that!
Even though it was simple it was still a good watch. Some solid wood working!
+Robin Lewis
Thanks bro!
You do great work and you did a great job explaining it. I may have to make one myself.
+SyberPrepper
Thanks, you should!!
Nice done Matt! I like that step stool.
+Cristian Derjy
Thank you!
very nice design, I really like the look of it!
+Fritschge128
Thank you
Really nice job Matt, when you glued the legs up you glued both sides . I use to do this , I was told it was wasting a lot of glue , which it was I started glueing one side , less mess same strength joint.
+Ally Porthouse
I'd rather have a little too much glue than risk starving the joint though. Oak is so porous I was afraid it might soak some of it up.
+Matt Lane yes mate you are right, great little project 👍
Really great job I like the added curves
+Thom spillane
Thanks Thom!
good stuff matt!👍👍 i think your the only person besides myself that have the Craftsman clamps..ive never seen anyone else use them .i love them theyre so handy! have a good one bro!

Looks great. Shows you don't have to make something complex for a piece to look good.

+drowization
This is a rather large blade that I have in my saw, so that helps. It has to do with having the proper amount of tension and the blade.
Looks great and your daughter is adorable 🙂
+Veronica
Thank you, Veronica!!
Lovely job...and it looks like you're coming up on 20 000 subscribers :)
+oobaka1967 thank you, yes I am :)

Turned out great Matt!!
+Tomy Hovington
Thanks Tomy!
looks great, bro. i'm so short, i would need a little stool like that to reach most of the stuff in your shop.

Cool project Matt!

Thanks man!
The curves really gave the stool a great look Matt!
+GuysWoodshop
Thanks Guy!
I liked hoe you added the curves and edge treatments to minimize the blockiness of the piece. Nice
+Bert Hatton
Thanks man, sometimes the little things make all the difference :)
Beautiful simplicity. Nicely executed and your edge treatment took it visually to the next level. To assuage your end grain gluing concern, the dado could have been replaced with a sliding dovetail to add mechanical strength to the joint.
Thank you! I'm happy to say that it's still holding up well today after being used daily by my wife and daughter.
great job keep up the good work
+workout
Thanks!
Do you like your Incra router fence? I've been thinking about the table saw version with the router lift wing.
+Andrew Tucker
I love it! If you have the room on the right side of your table saw for that set up, you'll not regret it.
I'm really lucky. I've got a 30x40 building that is going to get turned into my workshop. I just have to get a dead truck out of it and finish a couple of large projects that are in the way. I was wondering why you were making relief cuts on a subtle curve. then I seen the giant blade. nice work!
+Charles Holland
Haha, yeah, I'm too lazy to change out the 3/4 blade.
Nice Video.
My Grandpa sad : " You pay for the hole handsaw, so use the hole saw!"
+DrCRAZY
Lol, he has a point!
great job man!!
+arthur padget
Thanks man!
nice stool Matt but would it not be safer with splayed legs thats what i did when i made one each for my grand children
+ken haley
Thanks Ken, I think it is plenty stable. My wife and I have both stood on it. Trust me, I tried to stress it as much as I could haha.

Great project! A family heirloom 🤓
+Live Free and DIY
Thank you!
Nice! Looks great. A cross brace would save the stool through puberty too ;)
+Willem Kossen
Haha, I tested it out and tried to stress it as much as I could. It seems to hold up pretty well.
Very nice minimalistic stool. I'm watching your videos for some time now and I can tell your skill are great, but p,ease allow me to notice that with the hand saw you have to go with long, slow strokes :-)
+Stamatis T
Yes, I need to work on my hand saw skills. The video during that part was also sped up which could have made it look worse haha
Awesome!
+Lazy watchsmith
Thank you
It's an Olaf pedestal. ha ha. Nice job.
+Bruce A. Ulrich
Haha, at least for now. The popularity of Disney characters seem to change quite often in my house lol.
Same here! It's the curse of having young kids
Really like the curves you put on the piece.
+AdventuresInDIY
Thanks Chris!
What better client could you ask for? Nice one, Matt.
+Michael Lawing
Haha. True, thanks man
Nice Build!
Nice project, it almost has a Japanese feel to it.
+John Smith
Thanks man, I think so too. It wasn't my original intent but it worked out nicely!!
how do you like the Incra sled
+Carolina Hunting
I love it!
Nice project Sir.
+Vocha Alloy
Thank you!
Aren't you concerned with lateral support? I realize she is very little but your glue joint has alot of end grain?? I would have added a center brace between the legs. Even just a piece of that 3/4 oak mortised into the legs.
+Pat M
It seems to be plenty string enough the way it is. My wife and I have both stood on it.
nice step stool there. it would be nice if you put a short sweet message under the step. for her to see when she is older :)
+soulmaaan
That's not a bad idea! Thanks man!
Nice 👍
Muy bonito

Love the crayon!
I'm not sure who has more power tools, you or Norm.
How badly did you regret making one she could move around?
Haha, very much so
Big power show
neat🤗
The stool may look simple, but the build certainly was not.
