  • This week, my son, Joel, and I set out on an afternoon trip into the marsh to take advantage of a strong falling tide, and the day went almost exactly how we'd planned, with speckled trout and redfish showing a strong preference for one lure in particular.

    Good to see your son with you. Wait until he starts having you some grandkids he won’t have any free time. My son comes with me twice a year and he makes sure I have the fish locked in. But what I can’t wait for to get the grandkids out there and put a smile on their faces and hopefully get them hooked. But it will be a few years they’re just too young boys 3-1/2 and 5-1/2. I’ll never forget the time Joel dropped his rod at the trestle. A few days later David and I were in Academy David finds a pool noodle and goes up to Joel behind the gun counter and says you might need one of these for your rod. The face Joel made go get F’ed 😂.

    17:57 you just said you don’t know why, but you really do know why they are the slot fish that’s the fish that everybody wants to bring home. You just said it yourself you don’t want to bring anything big home you don’t want anything small people need to start bringing home larger fish. The worms are really not a problem you either cook it thoroughly or you freeze the meat.

    • @MarshManMasson
      @MarshManMasson  9 месяцев назад

      Those are the fish everyone has wanted to bring home since the reg changes in the ‘80s, but until recent years, there were plenty. So something else is at play.

      It isn’t the recreational fisherman who fish once a week and that’s for sure. I also no 20 people who love redfish but for some reason will only keep 16”-20”. I’ve had people in my family turn down redfish because they were 22”. It’s a weird mindset that people need to stop. I’ve cleaned a decent bit of 27-32 and have never found a worm.

    What were you calling those marsh drains? Trenosh?

      Trenasse is a Cajun French word for the little cut throughs in a marsh.

    Why does a "super high tide" not help shoreline fishing? Do the reds go too far back in the grass?

    • @marshpirate2924
      @marshpirate2924 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you will hear them chasing prey way out in the grass.

    Hurricane Ida.
    That's the main reason for the current generation gap. We probably lost a huge portion of the spawn from 2021.

      LDWF numbers consistently show the decline began before Ida.

    Lol nobody knows why the 16-20” reds are missing yet every single person you talk to says I only keep 16-20” reds. There is nothing wrong with keeping larger redfish, this bad meat/worm misconception needs to go. Have only seen worms in reds 35”+, but never in the 32” and smaller I’ve cleaned.
