Actually, Ateez was in a show called Kingdom in 2021 where different boygroups compete against each others during several rounds. In the final round, each group had to perform a new song. Ateez decided to perform this song while waving flags of very group on the show to express the fact that every group is important and winning the competition is not as important as having a good time : "this is what we call style" :)

The Real is one of their rare MVs that don't seem to be a part of their storyline, it's supposed to be like a live action anime with a new student, Mingi, joining the school with 3 rival clubs/factions that try to recruit him but everyone eventually realises that their values align, they stop fighting and celebrate together :)
If you watch some live stages for it you'll see that every time someone else does that freestyle dance at the end and it's usually improvised. They even once had a dance battle with their dance crew, BBTrippin.
Say My Name was their first comeback, the group was barely 3 months old at that point! In terms of the storyline it comes almost just before Guerrilla, it's kind of happening at the same time as Halazia, at least partially - soon after Ateez find themselves in that dystopian universe but before the revolution properly starts, so they're still in hiding while later in Guerrilla they're out in the streets on the offensive, waking people up with their music.

the song HALAZIA really has a lot of emotion to me both heart-wrenching and fun at the same time the beat and dance moves are beautiful and at the end they ruin it again with BreakDance, another one of my absolute favorite songs 😭❤️🔥
Say My Name is a song I've always been obsessed with the melody and dance moves are unique I love them so much😭
The Real is the most entertaining song everything in the mv gives me a great sense of humor they are so funny lol this song was also a competition song on Kingdom I really want you to watch it every band really enjoyed them especially Mayfly's group and of course this song has another great BreakDance song It's very fun 🤘🏻🔥

Ok, I saw ateez live last month here in mexico city and let me tell you Halazia live is UNREAL, INDESCRIBABLE, I almost cried.

As a Hongjoong biased atiny it makes me really happy to see you appreciate him. Seriously though, I love all 8 of them with my whole heart. The fact that you got chills & were in tears is hella relatable because I still feel that way often, even after listening to their songs multiple times. They're so just so freaking good!! The story is like this, Mingi is a new student who join the school and the rest are in different school clubs trying to make him join their clubs, Jongho and Yunho are in the bikers club, Hongjoong and Seonghwa are in the calligraphy club, San and Wooyoung arein the baseball club.
Yeosang is not the principal, but he is kinda like the peace maker that's why he is surrounded by doves .
the song is anti-bullying and talks about being kind and humble.

Halazia - The meaning of the title is unknown. However, “Hala” could have a connection to ATEEZ’s previous song, HALA HALA, which mean Hearts Awakened, Live Alive. Meanwhile, “Zia” has roots from Arabic, Hebrew, Italian and Latin. It means “splendor” or “light”. So the meaning could be something like Hearts awakened, live alive, be the light, as the phrase “be the light” is repeated throughout the song

Yes as you know ATEEZ discography as general are very heavy lore and still ongoing until today, if u dont mind lemme explain the general thing about it :D Please bare with my English cause its not my first languange XD
ATEEZ has 3 main era that divided their albums based their storyline, every era kinda like an arc or chapter in the books. Every era have very distinct sounds and music wise. The song from the same era basically sounds very similar and talking about the same thing because their whole tracks is a continuatioun story. So I get it why u think their old music sounds different yet still has the ateez flavor cause they did, they are from the different era with basically different sound but still has their signature sound ofc.
Their album divided into Treasure era album series, Zero Fever album series and The World album series. Until this day, as you can know they are still on the World album series ep.2 : Outlaw, and it still continue until today. Usually, we have 3 ep with an epilogue for every new era, so we cant wait for The World Ep.3!
Ateez main theme is Pirates. During Treasure album series, we know how they are group of pirates who going on journey searching for their treasure. Treasure refer to ur precious thing in life, it can be fame, love, gold and many things (explain on their Intro Long Journey). Treasure is their debut track (alongside with Pirate King), it was the very first track that explain their humble beginning as pirates who search for their treasure. This album took many symbolize with that theme such as wave, light, star, horizon, etc. It closed by Precious, the very last song on the series which talk about how they got drunk over the treasure then sucked into the new dimension/ new world (it will continue to The World album series)
Say My Name was part of this era :D talking about their first step in the industry/ journey so people start calling them as ATEEZ. It was more like their signature song where they show their true color as musician/idol.
The second era is Zero Fever album series, it was a prequel to the Treasure album series. Talk about their childhood, their past trauma, the story about why and when they gathered as childhood friends before they become into pirates (based on their lore ofc), but the most interesting part is how this Arc made based on their own story too, they put their own struggle and past trauma into the lore and we love to see it ofc. The whole era sounds more youthful with freshness and lean into more sentimental and melancolic side. (some fans thought this is their weakest era because the drastic change from the sound in the previous era, but me personally treasure it so much coz I feel relate with every piece of it lol)
The Real was part of this era :D U can see how they become more youthful & the message really talk about humble & kindness just like the vibes from this album series. Mingi is the new student, while Yeosang the one u thought as a principal is like a watcher student. The other members part of bikers group, baseball club, & calligraphy club. They fight over the new student so Mingi can choose their club, but they fight with dance. Then come Yeosang as a netral member which tell about how diversity is better & no discrimination XD Well this MV really reference to some old school style type movie in asian culture, especially around korea, japan & china. I dont really understand some of their culture too since I'm not part of it so CMIIW.
The World series era is the continuation journey from The Treasure series era, we're still on Ep.2 so not much that we can gather except that they are not a usual Pirates. Ateez are bunch of black pirates called Halateez, a group of space pirates who can travel into other dimension using a cromer. They are group of rebellion who try to destroy an authoratorian government called Strictland, who banned human emotion in apocalypse or dystopian world setting. On this era, we know how Halateez perform art, music and dance to woke human emotion and made them pursued by the Android Guardian. The whole aesthetic for this era is very dark and I love it lol. Ep.2: Outlaw is talk about how the group get separated, on their diary album one of member in jailed, they've come hopeless and depressed, which is why this album sound like a super villain music lmao
Halazia & Guerilla part of The World album series. Thats why their dystopian aesthetic kinda similar but in very different vibes. The difference is Halazia took diferent point of view than the Guerilla. The album where Halazia come called SPIN OFF THE WITNESS, so this song more into the witness point of view as the citizen of oppressive government called Strictland.
I think thats all I can explain about their general music, sorry for talking too much eventhough I said I'm gonna explain the basic thing, but this is really the basic thing because they put even more details in every lyrics, every tracks and every sound which is crazy. I dont know if u are interesting enough to their music, u can start by listen it from the very beginning, watch every video and every tracks with lyric coded video I guess? cause it helps to understand their discography and their lore.
Also, their lyrics sometimes more like an open interpretation. It talk about their lore, but u can also take it as message in real world situation. even when fans speculated about how their song such as Desire tend into sexual thing but then it reveals it talk about their desire toward the treasure so yeah we can take many interpretation to their songs lol
