Mike in the future use custom sliders for MyLeague. There is one you can download called Realistic Sliders, should be second highest with only 2 updates. It is a really good sim engine.

That lakers thing happened to me once as well... I played as Celtics and sold nearly everyone for future promises but I somehow made it to the 8th seed eastern and won all four rounds in 7 games, in the first year. I didn't change the difficulty either. And I got first pick next year as well.
