We were SOOO fortunate to get the opportunity to work with the incredible Dover Quartet again. And on such a fun tune! We've been wanting to do this cover for years, and always wanted to film it with Dover. These guys are the real deal, and they're some of the nicest people, too. If you haven't already, you HAVE to watch their video of Borodin's "Nocturne" ( • Borodin - String Quart... ). It's such a beautiful performance. And check out their tour schedule - they play hundreds of concerts around the world each year and they're amazing to watch live! Thanks for watching!

Lyrics:
I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in twelve-thirty flight
Her moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me toward salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say,
"Hurry, boy, it's waiting there for you."
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside
Frightened of this thing that I've become
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
"Hurry, boy, she's waiting there for you."
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Brooklyn Duo Bio:
Founded in 2014, Brooklyn Duo has quickly established itself as one of today’s most successful classical crossover ensembles. Through its creative arrangements and live video performances, the piano and cello duo has garnered a huge following, with over 600,000 RUclips subscribers, and over 150 million streams annually on platforms such as Spotify and Pandora Radio.
On a whim, the couple arranged and recorded two pop covers and released them on RUclips. Shakira noticed the duo’s cover of her song Empire and promoted it to her 130 million-plus fan base, saying: “We're loving Brooklyn Duo's piano/cello cover of Empire! Great work guys." The boost that resulted from that exposure and the positive response they were getting on RUclips encouraged the couple to continue creating videos.
Since then, Marnie and Patrick have released over 80 videos on their Brooklyn Duo RUclips channel and 7 albums of covers, spanning artists from The Beatles to Metallica to Taylor Swift (who also tweeted about them, saying their cover of her song “Blank Space” sounded "like a song people should walk down the aisle to"). In 2016, the couple started a second RUclips channel, Brooklyn Classical, with the goal of introducing classical music to a larger audience. With this new channel, Marnie and Patrick aim to showcase high quality, live performances of classical music. Brooklyn Classical often hosts high-profile guest artists, including the world-renowned Dover and Escher string quartets and percussionist Ivan Trevino.
In 2017, Marnie and Patrick partnered with Carnegie Hall and Ensemble Connect, a collective of some of the best young musicians in the U.S., to produce a cover of a-ha’s “Take On Me”. The video went viral and garnered millions of views in just a few months. Popular classical music stations Classic FM and WQXR regularly share Brooklyn Duo’s music on their social media pages, with Classic FM calling the duo “masters of the artfully planned pop cover.” One of their covers was also recently featured in an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy.

You are wonderfoul 😍😭💖
Simplemente perfecto!!!!
LOVE THIS SONG!! LOVE IT MORE NOW! xo Y'all make my day! Thanks so much for making AMAZING music! xo 🧡☘️
I am so going to listen to this everyday. Well done !!!😍😍😘
Guys, can I dare to ask you to play something? I know this one is pretty "used" when it comes to people who cover it, but Id really like to hear Ludovico Einaudi - Una Mattina from you - please :) Kind regards from Germany
I'd love to live next door to you.... I'd never complain about the noise 😁🤣😂😜
i don't think it's a good idea esp. during rehearsals :)
Unless they are practicing a HARD song and they keep messing up which in my opinion won't happen often
HONESTLY!
I would love that
Nice 1 me to and I would compare that they were not playing it louder enough
You can see everyone’s passion. That’s awesome
Especially Patrick, wow... just incredible
Hail SATAN!
wow the sound on this recording is A+
madpicken I love it too! Do you think the recording is with the camera? I could hear the parts shown near the camera better I think. Or maybe they were simply recording the instruments that were louder at the time.
@@beeoxford255, i do not, there is an open air mic in the middle. and the sound from the cardiod mics are just far more superior to a stock camera mic
more like A++++++++++++++++ it's flawless
madpicken yeah every time I try to record something it sound like butt
There violins and viola have what look like Earthworks mics, with magenta bands on the ones for the violins - maybe a pair of Earthworks QTC40 (~$2200) mics. Along with at least 3 large diaphragm mics for the room/middle and 2 cellos, and likely a mic or two for piano. Probably at least $6500 worth of really accurate mics there - and good musicians with good instruments.
Hi, my name is Diego, I'm from Brazil. I want to thank for posting something so wonderful to hear, you can feel the emotion transmitted in each chord. Music is the sport for the soul, today this sound changed my day, it did me very well! My huge thank you.
Em momento de pandemia, tem nos dado melhores dias. Só agradecer e apreciar. Deus abençoe o mundo !
Literally impossible to listen to this in any form without screaming out the chorus.
i love their cover... they are excellent

*clicks on Brooklyn Duo video as swiftly as humanly possible*
THE FASTEST HANDS IN THE WEST
I had cried when you played Bohemian Rhapsody all together, and now I'm crying again... You are amaizing!

I guess I’m kinda late to this party. What a beautiful performance. There are no words. BRAVO.
You have a new fan.

Wow I can’t believe I was the first like on THE Joe Jenkins comment
Sup
Fantastic!! Terrific arrangement and playing. Especially love the ponticello. Rock on, guys! 🤘🏻😝🤘🏻
Thanks so much, guys! Hope all is well and big congrats on hitting a million subs! 👏👏👏
One of the most beautiful covers of Africa. Thanks Brooklyn Duo!!!
😂 greetings from coastal Mississippi. Any version of this song is good, but Brooklyn Duo takes it upward. Love, Love, Love❤
You guys should do some “behind the scenes” videos. Like - what goes in to creating a video like this: the setup, the mixing, even showing the practicing that goes in to getting it right, bloopers, etc. I’d love to see a video like that.
I am singing the chorus now. "It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa."
also marnie's performance was absolutely stunning
Why have I not heard of either of these two groups? Absolutely lovely arrangement and execution!!
WOW! The harmonies! The setup! Got to give a massive credit to what ever sound equipment your using, the camera man, it's all perfect
Okay now this is art.
Not only was this cover amazing, you can see the passion that each and every one of you have for your instruments and music in general. It is inspiring!
There was so much passion in that performance, I can't stop listening to it
I love your music. I play the piano. So, I really appreciate Marney's playing - incredible. But, my question is how in the world does Patrick memorize all these songs? I never see any sheet music or cheat sheets. Wow! Plus, I love his playing, too!
can you just imagine all the freaking goosebumps they're getting while carving out this tune?? cause it has to be even more than the ones i just got cause all i did was sit here n watch it happen. and that piano solo: i like that solo. that is a nice solo
I need a 'love' button for this song! Thank you for posting this!
Thank you for bringing peace this life. From Bolivia with much admiration.
Wow! I just love it when BD collaborates with DQ! What a feast for the ears.
I love how Camden keeps check on all his guys... Unreal performance ❤️
I am ashamed to say that while listening to this beautiful piece I was constantly reminded of the (hilarious) “rubber chicken” version 😅
to be fair that is a great version
I want to know how Patrick can play all this music with no sheet music, too. Just AMAZING!
I used this version to walk down the isle at my wedding. My husband said he saw people trying to figure what is was and when they realized it they had the biggest smiles on their faces. It's a beautiful, epic song.
I go to strings (cello, bass, viola, violin) classes and I've been playing the cello since August. Every Friday we have "funday Friday" where we watch a video of our instruments. Because this video has 2 of the strings instruments I'm going to ask my strings teacher if she could put this video for "Funday Friday"!! SO TALENTED!!
Lily Romero actually 3 string instruments, I think there is a viola :)
What I like the most about your music is the way you guys enjoy it!
Exactly! Makes u feel every note so much more. Their passion is what makes this performance so electrifying.
What a WONDERFUL quartet. I particularly liked this one because you guys were all so happy! That's all that matters in music, is to be happy and enjoy what you are playing. I LOVED IT!! keep it up guys! You should get together more often.
The one dislike is a person who has not been blessed by the rains down in Africa.
You phrased it perfectly! The one person( moron/fool😂) is the same loser undoubtedly that would argue with you if you said something was purple! They would say it was “BLUE”, swear, call names & say “THEY SHOULD KNOW FOR THEY ARE A SELF APPOINTED EXPERT ON THE COLOR BLUE!”😂😂🤣They hate & dislike everything & unfortunately the anonymity of the internet “allows them to hide behind their thumbs down & comments!” A real shame they get to do that but doesn’t matter for we all know how incredible this quartet is! Loved your clever comment Robin!❤️It is to cute!💕
Yay!!! I love this song so much and this is such a sophisticated, stunning version of it! Love it when you play with Dover... So much talent!!
I love to see how happy you are and how much you guys enjoy it. thank you, its one of my favorite songs and this version is amazing!
This honestly brings tears to my eyes
I can't go to bed before hearing to any of your performance guys...And it's so such a sweet to hear...Thank you Brooklyn Duo always.
This is undoubtedly one of the best covers you guys have ever done! It’s simply amazing! Loved every second of it! Please keep up the good work!
i love this song and you guys were so pumped to do it. so much emotion in each note and facial expression.
Words, words, tears, smiles, more words! Amazing and so-o-o-o beautiful!
You guys are INCREDIBLE! I’m so glad there’s still hope for young people.
The elegance of your music is so refreshing. In such a crazy seemingly upside down world we are in today it is nice turn your channel on, close my eyes and just listen to perfection. Thank you so much for what you do. I love your channel!
In watching your videos, I am so impressed as how everyone uses sheet music, except Patrick. He always plays with his heart; and you can see how he 'feels' the music. It's just wonderful.
Fantastic. We hosted the Dover Quartet where I work for a chamber music recital last year. Incredible.
Another one of my absolute favorite songs in the world. Beautifully done!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍
Omg! The chop @2:46 and the chorus after that, send chills down my spine. I Keep listening to that part over and over. Absolutely fantastic!
My best compliments to all these young players and particularly to the pianist and cello soloist!! One of the best interpretation I've heard together the original one!!! 👏👏👏👏👌👌👌👌👌
As I watch you guys play the chorus I realise it must be the best part of the song getting to absolutely belt out some phenomenal chords.
This is one of my favorite songs of all times. You guys nailed it! I started humming along but then realized that you sounded way better than my humming. It was giving me chills! Keep up the great work! :)
Oh, this lifts my spirits higher than ever before! Simply, awesomely, beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
I'M GOING TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MELODY!!!🎼🎶🎹🎻
It's pieces like this that helps open minds to enjoy and support a style of musical artistry that they might otherwise discount. Thanks for the light ✨
OMG. One of my all time favorite songs. It's brings me back to my childhood in the 80's. This song was so prolific and pervasive. So emotive. Thank you SO MUCH. I've reclaimed my formative years (musically speaking).
Brilliant I've always love this song, it transports you, every time I hear it I'm there... Beautiful .....
Topíssimo!!! One of the best versions of this song, simply wonderful!!!!
Oh my!!!! Sooooo good! This is one of my all time favourite songs, and you guys outdid yourselves. Both groups have awakened my love of stringed instruments, never thought I'd like stringed instruments, but I DO NOW! Thank you for blessing us with your incredible talents!!!
Pure magic, loving it,
I got chills from the song "Africa"... never thought that could happen
I love you both. Beautiful family and many talents!
I always like the original but this is something else. You guys have nailed it. Absolutely beautiful work. I now get to like the song all over again. Thanks ❤️
Bravo! My God, excellent! .. That was as much fun to watch as it was to listen to. I felt like dancing with a "cup o' tea" in my hands!
Wow! I thought I had found the best cover of this song, but now I'm not so sure. Such passion!
This my all time favourite song ... thanks Brooklyn Duo
Way above my expectations -- Absoultely stunned!
Grand!
I’ve never seen the same number of cellos and violins playing at the same time. Life would be perfect if there were as many cellos and violas as violins and pianos
I love them anyway but what a beautiful job they do on this song!❤️
I've never really cared much for "Africa" - until now. And I love it!
I started watching you about one year ago and I realy liked cello because of you so I started learning cello about 5 months ago and I want to be like you.
You are my inspire
I'm 17 and I've been playing the viola for 7 years and the piano for 1... I love the energy you all have. I need that lol 😍😍😍😍
Greetings from Brazil! This video is amazing! Loved this and all other colabs with Dover Quartet!
Absolutely superb. Wow.
Beautiful. Going from watching a metal cover of this, to this. Just wow
Love Toto and you guys did this one justice! Would love to see you cover Foreigner too.

Africa: there are so many arrangments!
This is not only well done but it is brillant!
Simply amazing. Loved this so much.

Desde Asunción Paraguay, un saludo de Ma.Angelica e Ignacio Medina.
This is an awesome performance. It is beautiful and played from the heart. ❤️
I LOVE this song. This was a brilliant performace!
Speechless. Simply amazing! Every time their heads move, my head suddenly bobs with theirs as if I’m playing. Beyond amazing!❤
I love the way they share their expressions each other☺
This is magical. I love listening to your covers! ♥ Sending love from Czech republic.
Exciting and excellent performance. My thanks to Marnie & Patrick and to the Dover Quartet. (And your Borodin Nocturne performance is masterful by the way). Congratulations and appreciation to ALL such talented musicians. That glissando at 2.50 is SUPERB!!! Mary S, Dublin, Ireland xx

Best thing to listen when I need to work late.
I couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole thing. Amazing!
This song is so magical 🤩
Fantastic, and love the trading off of the flourishes between piano and strings, an unexpected bonus!
