We had such a great time working with the talented members of Ensemble Connect. This was filmed in the beautiful new Resnick Education Wing at Carnegie Hall. Thanks for watching! (P.S. Patrick is finally back from his Break of Reality tour in Asia so we'll have lots of new videos coming soon.) ❤️
Loved it! Magnificent Performance! Filming is brilliant! Music is just out-of-this-world - AMAZING! 100 times better than the actual song! Happy 10th Anniversary! :)
It took me by surprise. I've never heard the like. (It's been well over 40 years since I played in a string orchestra. I had entirely forgotten about both the word and the concept of "glissando".)
I know I'm a little late to the party (6 years) but just seeing this now. Although I'm 56, I was 18 when this song came out. I can't believe that was 38 years ago. This is such a beautiful cover of one of my most favorite 80's songs. Thank you for sharing this with us.
nah the camera needs work and felt way too basic, the video had a lot of potential for a lot better cinematography. More creative transitions and cuts would make the video a lot more entertaining, but the music is really nice.
Can we just take some time to appreciate how genuinly happy mr. Kennedy on the clarinet looks, just sitting there and looking like he's just really enjoying being there.
I noticed he really seemed into his part of the music and really enjoyed playing his part. However every one did their part to bring this piece of music together. I especially liked where they featured the obo solo. You usually do not get to hear that instrument get a solo. Great job everyone and keep making great music together.
It is really impressive to see people who are not only THAT good at what they do, but also appear to enjoy doing it. You can almost sense the happiness through each of the players' motions.
Way back when I was a kid in the eighties, I used to make fun of my friends (not mean, just joking) who were in band, playing these very same instruments. I used to tell them to learn how to play a cool instrument like the guitar. Now, fast forward nearly 40 years, and I completely realize the joke was on me. Damn this is awesome.
I've been playing the violin since I was 5 and kids used to make fun of me and laugh at me. Now I laugh at them because they wish they played as well as I do😏😂
This just blows me away. Such an essential and intense argument in favor of teaching music in school so that we can continue as a species. My words are pedantic and contrived compared to the emotion I feel from hearing all the talented players here.
i hope a-ha live gets to see this. This is the perfect song to play in the morning driving to work. It truly brings joy to the heart....before co-workers work my blood pressure lol.
No words are enough to describe how awesome this is...love the bit at 2:14 almost jumped out of my skin ! Watching such talent makes me feel totally useless though !
Unbelievable. How did anyone ever come up with this chemistry of instruments...trombone? bassoon? etc. They all harmonized so well. A delicious marinade.
rperlberg The part from the original and the flight of the bumblebee are really similiar But I guess they decided to replace it with the flight of the bumblebee
I knew I heard a segment of Flight of the Bumblebee! This arrangement and the execution was absolutely superb, everything an ensemble should hope to be!
The Doctor trumpets are so unoriginal. hurp derp I'm joining band why don't i play the most common and obvious instrument. who cares if half the band plays it already or that it sounds awful when not playing in harmony with another trumpet. yes good decision
It's true, a good song is a good song - irrespective of genre. Love this classical treatment of one of the best electronic pop compositions of the 1980s.
The pianist and violinist both clearly mix in _Flight of the Bumblebee_. The original version of _Take On Me_ by a-ha did not have the upwards range or the dissonance with the accompaniment that this version includes.
I think Albus Nix has it right. There is a rapid chromatic run in the original, but it's not the same as played here. This interpretation appears to be channelling a bit more 'Flight of the Bumblebee' than the original. Perhaps the Duo can clarify?
We never stop listening to this video. "Take on me" belongs to our generation, and you inspired us with this version. I felt tears running out of me every time I listen to it. Definitely, the work of the artists is to bring the fire in everybody. People are so full of boring routines that we, as artists, need to give them a path to escape. Thank you, guys.
This was so beautiful. Love this song in it's original form and your "remix" is so powerful. Great variations in the song and powerful blend with the instruments. Committed fan for life.
This is awesome! And the arrangement is great! I love the tiny tribute to Rimsky Korsakov's bumblebee on piano to replace the arpeggiator! *claps loudly*
I've seen it so many times at this point. Whenever I think of watching music, this one always comes to mind. I love how the ending just kinda leaves you hangin' there--begging for more!
Hey Brookylyn Duo! I love all your covers but I have to say that this one and hallelujah were my favourites! I just auditioned for a strings ensemble and an orchestra that preforms at the Massey Hall. I play the piano and cello. I started cello around 2 years ago and I play grade 6 piano. There were around 1000 people auditioning and I was actually one of them! Today I got a letter that said I made the strings ensemble with around 43 other people and I was so excited. You have both been huge roll models towards me, Patrick for the cello and Marnie on the piano. I want to thank you so much and please never stop making these amazing covers! -Ashley
This is... doable if all instruments were recorded one by one, each player given the opportunity to hand in their best recording. But to all do it at once. And the camera-person. catching all the action where it is. wow.
Tiktalik How is the timing off? It sounded perfect to me, and the camerawork wasn't God awful; at least he wasn't shaking or bobbing and showed a panorama rather than just standing still and being boring. Also it's not like they were performing for the queen, this is just a nice thing they put together for the public to enjoy but I guess some people have nothing better to do than look down on others and point out miniscule flaws rather than congratulate them for what most people agree was a damn good job.
We all look at and experience things on (slightly?) different ways. Probably due to experiences in the past, profession, character, how he/she is taught to etc etc. As much as i agree with yours i quess Tiktalik just sits on a different frequency when watching this one. And hey isn't it nice for us who just are able to enjoy this and not see all the teenie-eenie-weenie flaws and get off on that! :-D
Terrific recording! Thank you all. Your arrangement is exciting, challenging and dramatic but, always, so musical. Love the bassoon solo - an unexpected touch! I would like to have heard more of Marnie Laird - she is such a wonderful pianist - but I felt she was a wee bit drowned out by the other instrumentalists in this arrangement. Well Done all. Dublin calling .....
At first I thought - hmm... okay old 80s song I used to like. But then they just kept pulling more and more complexity out until it was just amazing... Excellent.
Mike from Elk Grove CA age 63. Wow 😳 people, outstanding job, the song you choose just happened to be one of my favorite videos that came out on MTV years ago. Thank you
By popular demand (!), SHEET MUSIC is now available for this arrangement! Get it here: bit.ly/BrooklynDuo
Absolutely beautiful, well played.
pmailkeey are you stupid? its for performers
We call it sheet music, but you can of course purchase it and upload onto an iPad if you like. You turn pages with a foot pedal.
Your tempo is off.
How about the mp3? or the CD single? or the cassette single? or the 45 rpm record single? Where can one purchase those?
I genuinely, deeply, whole-heartedly love this. It's gorgeous. I would love to see more productions like this!

It's not a production, it's live music. That's the whole point. Production kills music and humanity.
Totally agree

Patrick,
Hope you had an amazing trip! :)
Brooklyn Duo, make a "Shape of You" Ed Sheeran? Please with orchestra😃
Brooklyn Duo Could you please make Clean Bandit Rockabye Cello, Piano cover please! You are the Best!!!!!!!!!! Latvia loves you!
the flight of the bumlebee part made me crack up on a sad day. I really really thank you
2:13 GLISSANDO OF THE CENTURY
It was brilliant. It gave me literal chills.
It took me by surprise.
I've never heard the like.
(It's been well over 40 years since I played in a string orchestra. I had entirely forgotten about both the word and the concept of "glissando".)
For reall! AWESOME
THERE'S A WORD FOR IT?!
RiverTiger Speedpaints iF yaa was in Orchestra or studied music theory, then yes !
Cameraman or women was the 10 artist there. Flowed with the music perfectly.
Want to let you know that people are still listening to this! Love this
I know I'm a little late to the party (6 years) but just seeing this now. Although I'm 56, I was 18 when this song came out. I can't believe that was 38 years ago. This is such a beautiful cover of one of my most favorite 80's songs. Thank you for sharing this with us.
The setting, the camerawork, the arrangement, the musicianship, ... Everything about this cover is simply perfect. Insta-sub.
Sir Psycho Sexy my thoughts (and subscription choices) exactly!
Sir Psycho Sexy AND THAT GLISS THO
all pro musician
The camerawork was superb!
nah the camera needs work and felt way too basic, the video had a lot of potential for a lot better cinematography. More creative transitions and cuts would make the video a lot more entertaining, but the music is really nice.
1:57 flight of the bumblebee!!!
This is amazing🤩
Can we just take some time to appreciate how genuinly happy mr. Kennedy on the clarinet looks, just sitting there and looking like he's just really enjoying being there.

I especially enjoyed watching the guy in the red shirt on the right. He just looks so happy to be there.
He's Best boy
Go, clarinet!
I love how the bass starts off! Us bassists don't get nearly enough credit, so I'm glad the bassist could start off :)
Wild Fiyre In the piece String Explosion the Basses start. :)
I mean if a bass is missing it's not orchestra, but the bass in himself sounds horrible because he's actually to small for his deep sound
We usually never get picked for the melody parts in the music because we are always the background beats, but I’m happy the bass started the piece off
Derick Lu very much.
You don't get nearly as much flak for mistakes either. Even though your mistakes are technically the worst
2:13 the precise way to drop tha beat whilst playing classical instruments
I LOVED THAT... DYNAMIC MUSIC
touch of class 👌
That sound at 2:13 will always give me chills
Glissando!
Thank you for this beautiful version. My 11 year old daughter has chosen it as her solo program skating song for this upcoming competition season.
Good luck to her!
how did it go? :)
I want to see a video of her

kid has taste!
It is really impressive to see people who are not only THAT good at what they do, but also appear to enjoy doing it. You can almost sense the happiness through each of the players' motions.
Imagine hearing this live.
Music is such a wonderful thing. We would not live without it.
We would survive, but we wouldn't live.
Damn this is awesome.
grayboo212 - you weren’t the only one, I did the same thing.
I've been playing the violin since I was 5 and kids used to make fun of me and laugh at me. Now I laugh at them because they wish they played as well as I do😏😂
Jokeeeee wassssss on youuuuiiii
*take on me instrumental playing*
And I was the one to be made fun of. Now I'm a professional violinist. Been playing for 15 years.😁
The "RIP" at 2:13 is freaking AWESOME!
Yes 213 crushed it. Amazing. What a great add in. 👍👍
Facts!!
Still the best video of the B Duo, do another one in this setting.
No words are enough to describe how awesome this is...love the bit at 2:14 almost jumped out of my skin ! Watching such talent makes me feel totally useless though !
digitalmediafan glissando w dół.Jest wspaniałe!
digitalmediafan who are you?
digitalmediafan some are to do and others to enjoy😀
I actually didn't enjoy that part that much, to be honest.
Yeah i almost cry in 2:14 too, its just sublime
Best iteration of the original
Ok my. That was special. Thanks.
Unbelievable. How did anyone ever come up with this chemistry of instruments...trombone? bassoon? etc. They all harmonized so well. A delicious marinade.
Why dislikes?this is total production!
bobby is here/with more videos it sounds rushed
I did not dislike it, but that might be the reason
I think some people were expecting the song, haha
Because the violinists twitch with their heads in a weird way..
Because you can not replace the human voice, at least a good one. If I sing you better substitute and oboe in.
Everone is obsessed with the flight of the bumblebee but isn't talking about how amazing and chilling 2:30 is
I had not noticed this until I saw your comment -- and I had to play it twice to hear. Very nice. Thank you for pointing it out!
"...how amazing and chilling 2:30 is" - we need MOAR crescendo for the god of crescendo.
my mouth dropped open when I heard the opening notes...bravo,you deserve more viewers/followers and loved that little bumblebee sneaking in..
That's part of the original song.
rperlberg The part from the original and the flight of the bumblebee are really similiar
But I guess they decided to replace it with the flight of the bumblebee
As a punter who loves music but who knows nothing about music technically etc., this seems to me absolute perfection xx
I knew I heard a segment of Flight of the Bumblebee! This arrangement and the execution was absolutely superb, everything an ensemble should hope to be!
Dash 9 Railroad the melody is actually present in the original though
Who needs a bass drop when you can drop a cello like that
This was AWESOME!! I was just hoping that at the end, all the musicians would jump into their sheet music and save the world!!
victorsixtythree The fuck there are musicans not mahatma Gandhi nigga the fuck
Fuck have you not seen the take on me music video?
LoL KS nah I have it was a joke lmao
This is so beautiful. I can't believe how full it sounds for how few instruments there are.
I AM ROLLING AWAY, BECAUSE MY LEGS ARE NOT OKAY, THINK EVERYDAY THERE ARE GUYS WITH THE BIGGER PROBLEMS. HAPPY TODAY, AT LEAST I AM NOT HAY.
I agree! I am truly amazed at how great this sounds 😳! 70-80's will always have the greatest music ever produced in my ❤.😊
This is the most beautiful thing ive ever seen thank you for this
One of the greatest performances in the history of mankind.
I am truly privileged to have experienced this blessing.
I wanted the 12" version.
As a musician in a middle school band (I play bass clarinet ) this is a great inspiration to me :)
me me trash dove
Me Me Big Boy TRUMPET IS WAY BETTER
First chair clarinet ❤️🙋🏽
just a violin passing through (only good instrument, ofc)
The Doctor trumpets are so unoriginal. hurp derp I'm joining band why don't i play the most common and obvious instrument. who cares if half the band plays it already or that it sounds awful when not playing in harmony with another trumpet. yes good decision
Amazing content, can't believe it's free and that you upload so frequently.
Thank you so much!
It is only free because it is stolen.
Love the fact that the one solo was "Flight of the Bumble Bee." Awesome all around!
I cryed because it reminds me of my past
This has become such an iconic song. Great and unique rendition here
2:12 greatest slide EVER
Oh that's what that's called? Sorry, I'm a Trombone/Baritone player. I don't really know these things about string instruments. :/
Svensk Gamer It can be called a slide or slur. A slur is usually a shorter distance though.
Svensk Gamer I think for trombone it is called Glissando, and Trombones are the only brass instrumenta that can perfectly do it!
Reagan Thomas Lmao hell no. Slur is just notes on the same continuous bow stroke, no need for the in between notes. This is a glissando.
It's called a glissando. On every instrument, that is a glissando. It cannot be called a slide nor a slur.
i played bassoon in this with our high schools’ orchestra for our spring concert! it went great
Ayy, another bassoonist, loving the representation (#notanoboe)!
Russ H. totally! #notanoboe
I was a bassoonist in junior high and high school as well, #notanoboe lol 👏
The clarinet player was living for this, you could tell.
I had an A-ha moment while watching this video
Wow, you really went there 😂
herminio meneses shut up freshman
That’s six grade
herminio meneses boo! Dad joke! 👎
the most beautiful way to dodge a copyright claim
Hell yeah
I think they can still get a strike for copying a song.
If the writers are a-holes.
@@R3dCol0r Sadly, the writers often don't have that control over what gets striked
@@alex6027 Yea it's probably the label, i think? So I guess Warner Bros in this case.
LOL.
I loved the addition of flight of the bumblebees!
Thanks!
Very sneaky that was!
Proton2112 It's definitely flight of the bumblebee. The first violist plays a part of it too.
That's already in the original though...
Neo53 it's not flight of the bumblebees in the original, it's just a simpler chromatic thing. Go listen if you don't believe me
this ending... like the ending of The Sopranos, is tearing me apart. Great rendition of one of the best songs of my childhood. Thank you!
It's true, a good song is a good song - irrespective of genre. Love this classical treatment of one of the best electronic pop compositions of the 1980s.
Best probably
Nice sneaking in some bits of Flight of the Bumblebee.
In the original it's only the first five notes looping up and down, which is not really the same thing.
The pianist and violinist both clearly mix in _Flight of the Bumblebee_. The original version of _Take On Me_ by a-ha did not have the upwards range or the dissonance with the accompaniment that this version includes.
If you're referring to the rapid piano segment, it most certainly is in the original by A-Ha. The segment is played on a synthesizer in the original.
I think Albus Nix has it right. There is a rapid chromatic run in the original, but it's not the same as played here. This interpretation appears to be channelling a bit more 'Flight of the Bumblebee' than the original. Perhaps the Duo can clarify?
Right, but that is 100% flight of the bumble bee
Anyone else hearing this over and over again? It's just so wonderful when they play. I love you Brooklyn Duo!
Lead bassoon for the second verse is genius. Love this.
DAMN , this was soooooo great . Keep it up guys.
Thanks!
This rendition is spiritually uplifting and displays a wonderful mastery of both musical instruments and playing in an ensemble.
I could not agree more, sir. So beautiful and what brilliant execution!
Wowww .... Am so glad i watched this. Thank you
Everyone is so talented! The power of music never fails! Awesome cover Brooklyn Duo and Ensemble Connect!
Soo much talent in one room!
1% of that talent I can't even reach.
This was so beautiful. Love this song in it's original form and your "remix" is so powerful. Great variations in the song and powerful blend with the instruments. Committed fan for life.
Kevin Duguay I can see how much you love this and, don't take this the wrong way, but these are called covers. Not remixes.
Ditto0415 Who fucking cares?
Kevin Duguay this song reminds me of a marlon webb vine.
This arrangment sounds like a DeBeers Diamond commercial. I can just see the sparkling gems floating everywhere!
This is awesome! And the arrangement is great! I love the tiny tribute to Rimsky Korsakov's bumblebee on piano to replace the arpeggiator! *claps loudly*
SeaBeamGames It wasn't. it was different
SeaBeamGames he's talking about the piano part at 1:57
The original song didn't have it in there, but it was similar.
You must be tone deaf
Yea it sounds very similar but the original definitely didn't have Flight of the Bumblebee in it
Loved it! Brought tears to my eye (I was an child of the 80s).
The clearest purest brilliance of the string version of Take On Me...
Why did I only find this now? This is great! Thanks for your talent!
2:13: GLISSANDO OF THE CENTURY
i don't believe it's real, sounds too good. great job.
GLISSANDO OF ALL MF TIME🤔👏🤔👏🤔👏👏🤔👏😂🤔😂🤔👏
Jack Kerger Like jesus wtf that was awesome
I love it!!! Amazing interpretation
Jack Kerger yea 😊and 2;30 was so beautiful too and I play trombone and I wasn't expecting one so that was a nice surprise
This is the best arrangement that I have ever seen. It’s so beautiful
I've seen it so many times at this point. Whenever I think of watching music, this one always comes to mind. I love how the ending just kinda leaves you hangin' there--begging for more!
You can tell they all really enjoyed doing this.
Thanks so much for making this version of Take On Me, I love the Bumblebee piano lick! Having a blast drumming along your arrangement of this song :)
'Take on me' is a classic and deserved a version with the sophisticated sound of violins and piano! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is my favorite song for almost 40 years. 👍👍
Congrats on making it into the strings ensemble! Good luck and thanks so much for your support. :)
Makes me think of La La Land! I love this so much!
If this wasn't already and 80's hit this would be a masterpiece of classicality
This is the greatest RUclips video I've ever seen
This is actually better than the original song! A masterpiece! It would be amazing to see you guys supporting Morten Harket.
This is... doable if all instruments were recorded one by one, each player given the opportunity to hand in their best recording. But to all do it at once. And the camera-person. catching all the action where it is. wow.
How can someone dislike this?!
Eh, the timing's off and the bass is too biased toward the left ear, as well as missing notes at the start. Plus, the camerawork sucked.

Chain smokers fans 😂😂😂
I KNOW
people do not know how difficult it is to play that well and sound that good. it was excellent,
Lady on fiddle...violin...Rebecca I think? INCREDIBLE!!
Only 3 seconds in and I'm smashing that like button
Terrific recording! Thank you all. Your arrangement is exciting, challenging and dramatic but, always, so musical. Love the bassoon solo - an unexpected touch! I would like to have heard more of Marnie Laird - she is such a wonderful pianist - but I felt she was a wee bit drowned out by the other instrumentalists in this arrangement. Well Done all.
Dublin calling .....
Holy strings... another winner! I can't believe the utter beauty Patrick and Marnie keep coming up with every time.
That is talent. I wonder what the guys from A-Ha think of this unique version of their song?
At first I thought - hmm... okay old 80s song I used to like. But then they just kept pulling more and more complexity out until it was just amazing... Excellent.
This is TALENT at its core! Amazing rendition with Piano, Violin and Viola. I feel blessed to be able to hear such amazing musical pieces!
About once or twice a year this video shows back up in my recommended feed, and every time it does, I’m so glad I clicked it.
Add it to your favorites bro
Thanks your for the Song!!! Thank you Jesus ❤❤
BASSOON SOLO😁
Guess you're a bassoonist too?!
is this a tim minchin reference?
bass+ piano
Antte Hursti BASSOON SOLO! *silence*
Yay!
the deep and warm sound of the viola is so amazing
the most beautiful way to get a breather in a day.
Your music always finds me at the exact moment I need to cry at beauty. The world has become so ugly - what you do negates so much of it. Thank you!
I keep coming back to this and I cry everytime. Not literally, but honestly. I just cry. Its. That. Beautiful. :')
i literally know NOTHINGGG about music and i can’t play , yet i love watching these so much! seeing people filled with such passion is gorgeous
After watching the original and two more of the live ones decades later, i can’t believe I got tears at only your version.
I heard this and immediately subscribed -- THANK YOU!
Wow.wow......😮😮😮😮. I've no words enough to express my admiration for this masterpiece!!!!! Gooseskin effect!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That Trombone or Tuba bass elevated this music manifold ❤️❤️
Slightly embarrassed to admit this brought me to tears. So beautiful.
Mike from Elk Grove CA age 63. Wow 😳 people, outstanding job, the song you choose just happened to be one of my favorite videos that came out on MTV years ago. Thank you
