You sometimes see footage of civilian open carriers being victimized with their own handguns because they failed to be aware of who is around them and they did not carry in a retention holster. A predator simply snatched their firearm off their hip and either shot them immediately or held them with their own weapon and got their wallet.

Agree with you. Also very well balanced. He's not slamming something and praising something else. Lot of nuance on what works as a civilian (relatively unarmed, facing untrained combatants, not wanting to kill) vs. a soldier (armed, facing combatants with killing intent, and having to kill). Very nice video.

This channel is pure gold! So much good info by a true warrior. I was in special forces in my country too, and I came to the same conclussions as you regarding how can MMA be adapted for combat. I do MMA, but tactical/combat is another thing definitely, so I think it needs modifications. For example, sometimes I come to use techniques of the old Japanese jujutsu -which may be obsolete in MMA, in combination with Filipino Knife techniques. Here we are talking about a different breed of MMA, Combat MMA, the art of deploying the elements of martial arts needed for a specific situation for combat. Clearly, this field has still a lot to explore. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge.

I love this channel , I used to pride myself in ,"survival, shooting skills, prepping...etc etc" until I came across him and realized I ain't shit literally it knocked me down a couple notches . To get this kind of mindset and battleworn skills is very hard to come by and he's taught me so much . I love these videos , if you truly take and apply these things to your life and situations it works , it's not just a physical readiness, or skill readiness it's the mindset that is the most important part you can be tough , you can be smart , you can be both those things but if your mental state isn't top knotch none of that shit matters . I'm far from where I wanna be or need to be but the most important thing is that I notice I'm not. Thanks for all of these videos if you were close id be trying to take your classes

Great job, your opinion is spot on, obviously lol. If you don’t mind me mentioning, I think Shim Shin-Do is of worth. SSD saved my life a few times against two knife attacks and several multiple assailant altercations. When living in impoverished neighborhoods people getting jumped is an everyday occurrence. SSD really provides a one stop shop for civilian street survival.

I was trained as a bodyguard where I met several members of the United States military, many of whom were what I believe were US Special Forces and Army Rangers, and most of them shared your sentiments, and not all of them were Filipino-American - some were white, so it wasn't a cultural bias.
In my wrestling days I also got to spar with BJJ practitioners who were from the US Navy and I found that even within the context of sport grappling, FMA did it a lot better.
I study BJJ these days mostly so I know how to counter them, but I find Kali, Silat, and Systema far more reliable in sparring, and would prefer them in real life.

As a kid before the marines I also trained in pencak silat techniques to add to my may thai and traditional wrestling. The theory behind it has helped me learn things from other arts and even doing my job a diver in the oil. Maximizing leverage, minimizing your movement and redirecting energy. Which from person to person will vary, especially when you consider age, what you're wearing and potential limits due to injury

Trained and taught Sayoc kali and other silat systems, but the low light training received from SK saved my life in an edged-weapon attack in a nightclub against an individual with broken long stem glass. No need to say anymore SK in general is the truth. Spoke with a BJJ player who too, with no situation awareness was stabbed up pretty bad, I trained some Capoeira players, the ex-wife of one instructor nearly lost her life to knife attack, again stabbed up, so Kali in short, priceless.

He successfully took the fight to the ground; however, he was so focused on position that he never saw the blade trainer cutting at the femoral artery of his leg and into his spleen and kidney.
Though he took "dominant" position, in reality, he'd be dead.
