@@RiteOff69 I'm just learning this myself, but if i understand it correctly, if you're shooting @ 500 yards, with a projectile slower than 2600FPS, you take the distance and subtract 150, and you get 350. Then the first two digits are roughly a hold ( in mils? so hold 3.5 mils?) to get you in the ballpark. You then see where you missed and adjust accordingly. If you're projectile is faster than 2600FPS, you subtract 200 and do the same thing. Again, I am just learning this myself. Somebody please drop in and let me know if I am being dumb, lol.
This is the speed drop method from accuracy 1st company. Nowdays it can be calculated without a kestrel too using online tools or excel on snipershide if I remember right. But basically lay your dope from 300 to 800 meters and see how much difference is between distance and elevation. 223 is around 1.4 to 1.5, 65cm was around 1.7
@@QuadGodDre River Bend has a 500 range and a 600 yard NRA high power range. The kind with the pit you can sit in and hoist targets when its your turn. Best you will find outside the military bases.
I've always thought there were three ranges of engagement. 1. CQB or pistol round range i.e. 0-50m. CQB is range that might quickly turn into H2H. 2. Carbine range 50-300m. Running and gunning with potential for BOTH shooting on feet, knees, squatting, barriers. 3. Rifle range or prone with scope and bipod, etc. A range that requires more aim and less running.....until the enemy gets close enough and you had better run fast and shoot straight.
Best way to learn how long distance work that I’ve experienced is signing up for WPS and going through Cleckner’s long range courses. First time I shot past 200yds was at 1300 and I had a first round impact just because I learned from that online course. It was eye opening and empowering
Magnificent coaching shown here in this video. Of course in long range high power rifle competition the shooter is not expecting anything from the spotter/score keeper. But for sure if the spotter can discern first round impact then the shooter has a call/strike corollary which is paramount to shooter/target analysis and such analysis will allow for better results for work in progress. In other words, the score keeper can help the shooter get on target in conditions that are not at first understood by the shooter.
Longe range shooting is very satisfying, but the data collection process is tedious. You have to be thorough and consistent. You cant expect your "DOPE" from one range trip to be enough to go off of. The environmental conditions change day to day and therefore you POI will change to. Learning it all is a hell of a rabbit hole and if you dont take the time to learn the effects of the environmentals you will be chasing your tail at further distances. Edit: you dont need a Chronograph or a kestrel. Yes it will help a ton but if you dont understand why the ballistic computer says to dial 5.9 mils then what are you going to do when your batteries die?
Shooting at distance isn't complicated. It does require mastery of marksmanship fundamentals and DOPE. Most often, finding a location to collect that DOPE is the major limitation. Go find a Highpower club near you and make friends.
I used to have a TERRIBLE lisp. A speech therapist I knew noticed and asked if I wanted to address it during a car ride to lunch. They told me when an S is coming up, grit your teeth. You can't lisp with closed teeth. After a week I didn't have to think about it, it just happened. Has never come back since. 🎉❤
I really wanna try this place out. I’ve never shot past 1200 yards. I’ve stopped by there once and it looks awesome. Even had the pleasure of speaking to the operator. Seems like a great place!
At 25:30 when they talk about the bipod wobble on the rail. Drop the Area 419 mlock arca rail on that gun and all wobble will be eliminated. Exponentially better than pic rails.
I got into long range about 3 years ago and have a 338 lapua 30" barrel with a mark 5 HD 5-25x56. I studied for a year after I had the set up complete. Practiced dry firing every night for trigger control. Chronographed rounds and used Hornadys ballistics calculator. With no bags, I shot right around an 18" group at 1000 my first time out, and first time shooting over 200 yards. I still have a long ways to go, but the journey is more fun than the end goal. I wish I could get on a long range regularly, but there isnt any around my area to my knowledge. I respect the hell out of anyone who even gives this stuff a try. Any tips would be greatly appreciated because Im far from where I want to be. Great video.
You can sure see that pic rail flex and wobble and the built in pic rail helps for sure, but something like a Sgt of Arms handguard with a built in Arca rail allowing for easy bipod adjustment is the way to go.
Damn…. That grip info was priceless!!! I’ll be switching to that for sure!!! I’ll be upgrading my SPR’s rail eventually. Was thinking the Geissele MK16 but now I see the benefit of the MK4. I have a MK16 on an 11.5” AR. Geissele makes amazing rails, triggers and charging handles. Unable to comment on their other products but they are prob all solid.
There are a lot of gold nuggets in this video. I would just add, record the adjustments you make that end up getting your hits. Record those for each distance and youll be able to make a DOPE card. DOPE meaning data on previous engagements
Although modern sniper rifles with interchangeable barrels, bolt heads and magazines have "M-Lock" forearms the BARRETT MRAD has the upper, forearm and Pic rail as a MONOLITHIC solid piece. That is a great advantage in eliminating tolerance stacking of many pieces that need to be very tightly attached to each other - but may not be in actual practice.
Thanks for the vid gents. Can we do a 3 month shtf stockpile on a budget vid? Idk why but I got a bad feeling 2024 is gunna be rough for us as a nation
Is there a milliradians reticle inside the spotter's binoculars? If so, what model binos are those, and if not, how is he estimating corrections based on impacts?
Is the shifting of the bipod, via Picatinny mlok adapter, worth it enough to change from one hand guard to another? Seemingly, I can only find the Geissele Mk4 that he mentioned with the 1 section of picatinny.
The first thing to do is get your elevation right then work of your windage & rotation calculated,as a former airborne solder & sniper fiddling with a dope card allowed the enemy to get his sights on you

Best concept to visualize. Don't think about distance think about time variables have to effect the bullet. A 3 or 400 yard shot there really isn't that much time variables have an effect. If you factor in magnification that's at least 1x per 100 yards 400 yards and a 1-2 moa rifle 400 yard hits are nothing.
So, he mentioned the general "rule" of take your distance and subtract 150.... Is the resulting number intended to be used in moa or mil? Or am I misunderstanding?
This might be the first time I get to disagree with you about something lol. I'm a pretty big fan of the AEMS. I agree on the price, and would suggest to be patient and wait out for a solid deal like I did. The tint isn't any worse than an Aimpoint PRO to me, and the claims of it being nice with NV I can confirm, being a big factor for me personally. That's pretty high praise being that I'm comparing its performance to other optics I have that's popular with NV such as the Eotech EXPS3, Aimpoint Comp M4s & T2 and even a Vortex Huey. Thanks for the heads up on the mount. The mount itself seems robust, but that detent attachment point I did wonder if it risked slipping with a hard enough impact. For that reason, I gobbed loctite on the threads to double up on securing it. The AEMS is on a 6" 300blk build, and it gets banged around a lot through transport. It travels with me daily for work. But it hasn't been dropped straight on the optic yet, such as in your testing. Zero has stayed on mine with "practical" mistreatment. As always, love your unbiased content. Even if it doesn't always match with mine. This time, being the first 😎

Very happy to see more people getting into long range instead of CQB. A lot more open spaces.
Depends on where you live, true, but it's a much more complex skill. Unlike the Xbox experience of shooting targets from 20 feet.
Yeah majority of people live in Urban areas I know here in Georgia we don’t have a range that’s past 300yds
