Range card and 30 gun in the elite is a game changer. I bought the other model a year ago and if I had to do it over I would have the elite. I don't want to have to wip my phone out to load my son's rifle in to get a solution. Really surprised at the difference of the two. Great review, thanks.
4DOF has the Range Card and Multiple HUD displays to do what he's doing with individual Gun Models. Those features are paid.99 cent upgrade(s. The 4DOF Bullet drag models are in the app, you just add the bullet when building the Gun.
Really appreciating this type of video done in down to earth analyzing of products without getting into every little detail from appearance to weight and color. I'm all about how shit works and it's functionality in real world situations. I am looking to get rid of unnecessary equipment, ie: range finder, phone (which in most cases doesn't work where I'm at) wind meter, ballistic data. Got the range finder/binocular problem solved now working on the ballistic data/wind/earth data/ solved and this was helpful. Now if Kestrel would just add OnXmaps....yup that would do it!
That range card feature is a huge difference for me, I don't know for sure but from everyone I have asked there is no intention of adding the range card feature to the 4DOf as of now. HOPEFULLY that changes in the future because I think is is an extremely useful tool!
Question for you: when walking and hunting or moving locations, how is range cars affected by wind speeds at different locations? Do you have to do anything with the kestrel to adjust and how hard is it?
Just ordered the 5700 ballistic that uses applied ballistics as the solver but is not the elite version. For me, the range card, target card nor 30 guns were worth 300€ in price difference. And I still have the option to upgrade the 5700 ballistic to an elite for the 300€ if I later decide I need it.
Your explanation of the memory capability (3 vs 30) is misleading. This difference has nothing to do with 4DOF. All the kestrels (except the elite) have a 3 gun memory. If you want 30 your only option (at this time) is the Elite which forces you into AB as they havent offered that in the 4DOF model. Also not stated is that the bullet library is not limited to only Hornady bullets. Unfortunately, the library on the Kestrel app is not as large as in the 4DOF app.
@@isaiah9683 Applied Ballistics charges for their intellectual property. Hornady is essentially giving that away. You get Applied Ballistics quality data from Hornady for free. This means that if you are shooting Hornady ammo or bullets, you get Applied Ballistics Elite quality data for $200 less than if you need the versatility to shoot everything from USGI 50 BMG down to Eley Tenex.
I am new to these devices but I think hornady 4dof app has the range card and can sync with the Kestler, not 100%. On the downside you will need a phone and the Hornady App
4DOF is probably good if you're shooting only Hornady bullets. But, if you also shoot Nosler or something that they don't have built in to 4DOF, is the Elite a better option so you can solve for a wider range of bullets?
Awsome! Thank you! So basically my take out of all this is the the H model lacls functionality and the regular model can do the same thing as the H model
I have the same 2 solvers, and I am getting different elevation solutions. I also use the 6.5 cm heldm factory and custom drag models for AB. Side by side, same rifle I get a difference of 0.4 mils at 1000 yards. The AB gives the more accurate solution. No clue why this should be.
Did you adjust the BC in the AB version but not the 4DOF version? I ask the question this way because in 4DOF, you do not adjust the BC, you adjust the Axial Form Factor. Once the Axial Form Factor has been trued (adjusted BC), it will no longer be .4 off.

You can upgrade the ballistics to an elite
Exactly the info i was looking for thank you
How does AB handle cross vertical jump due
To cross winds? What does AB do to calculate spin drift?

while I agree with all of your comments I do have to say I think you are missing the whole point of 4DOF
What's the point of 4DOF then?

Is Vortex Geoballistics just a reskined 4DOF.... just looked it up and its 3DOF
Good info. Thanks

Applied Ballistics will give you better data for when the bullet goes trans-sonic
Nope
ok you got me - elaborate?@@jeffsiewert1258
I thought AB used Custom Drag Models derived from actual data and more accurate for bullets going transonic.@@jeffsiewert1258
