The way that video was filmed is incredible. I notice when poets or people with great minds are filmed speaking, the frame is often close in on their head. Still with this smaller frame, Berger does a tremendous job of showing emotion through his face and body (even if the focus is mainly on the words he is speaking and the thoughts that formed them). Not to mention the fact that his jacket movement let's us know that he touches his chest, the flowers and light tell us that he is outside, his glasses reflection tell us that he's reading from a small bound notebook, and his eye contact tell us that there is someone above the camera. Not sure if these were intentional, but from a visual art perspective these details are super valuable.
Painfully moving and appropriately so. I so wish the stories of the human side of the Palestinian struggle received more exposure in the media. Berger is brilliant and sees clearly. Bless him.
What a human being this man John Berger is-I had the privilege to meet in him in London in May-may he live long and continue to inform our consciences.
I find Mr Berger's delivery very soothing and I listen to him when I want to relax; it doesn't really matter that his political views aren't exactly the same as mine. He does come through as an extremely kind, generous man.
Brilliant words John. Seems that the Israeli regime is in many ways similar to the regime in history that it despises the most. And it did not take long for that to happen.
A wonderful human being, John Berger. Wonder if he is still in France! A professor of mine (and a father figure), Peter de Francia, used to mention him often. Humanity (and its survival) owes much to people like John (and Peter).
1948- Thats when the United States and the United Nations of America decided to declare the nation of Palestine now Israel** Oh Allah Ta'Ala I pray to you daily for Peace>. I pray for the Palestinians and the rest of the worlds people who are enslaved by a select few elitists ...Divide and Conquer is how they work, Ummah Unite** n' Spread Peace
Yes wouldn't it be amazing to see John Berger have a conversation with Noam Chomsky? Someone needs to film that quickly they are both getting very old.
who is continuing, saying these things, reflecting reality in this way, after j.b. /beloved one/ death? get up, people, say something, make a distinction ... we are in need of successors!
Maybe the hardest thing about occupation is erasing one's identity. It's sad to read about it in history what about seeing it in reality. Don't stereotype someone then excuse such actions. Remember always that we are all human beings who are, at the end, same in some way. That's why john Berger is not a Christian nor English but rather a human being.
all israelis have identity cards. all citizens must carry them at all times. they are a form of internal passport and social security card. one uses it at the bank and at the doctors office in rental contracts and for securing insurance services. mine is blue.

Few ever write this beautifully or powerfully. I found it so moving. This man seems brilliant.

He never lost one whit of his razor-sharp intellect, right up to old age.
