I love "the foolish distinction between fact and fiction," which could be taken to sound crazy, but in of studies of how memory works, scientifically accurate. This man is very bright. I am going to experiment and see if not using the word "but" changes how I think. If I can manage it, which may take a rubber band around my wrist to break the habit.
