    Really nice job mate. I appreciate how thoughtful you are about which materials you are going to use and where they will go. Bravo!

  • @edinburg3519
    @edinburg3519 2 года назад +6

    When the logs on the summer house expand and contract (and they will) two things can happen - fixed conduit can pull apart, and water ingress. Good to use an s shape flexible conduit section to allow for expansion/contraction of the timber walls. Also be carful not to fix CUs across logs as vertical expansion will split the wood. A cabin this size can expect a 3mm per log expansion so that's 45mm contraction/expansion for the whole wall.

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  2 года назад +4

      appreciate the input, I was always told pvc and wood expansion rates aren’t all that dissimilar, so that along with the non glued joints allows for enough movement. I have been back to a couple of jobs we done a good 2-3 years ago and all still looks good so hopefully may not have many issues.
      Glad you pointed out the CU tho, that’s something that’s not crossed my mind before so I’ll be cautious on that in future.

    Nice job, i was thinking you may have possibly been able to drill through the corner and not use the copex your running singles so could keep the drill size down may have been able if you are good with a drill not break into the room, i worked for over 40 years installing alarms and managed it , in all fairness i only had a small telephone size cable but i think it might have been possible, nice job though thinking out of the box exactly what i would have done going around the outside nobody will see it 😀 a lot of people would have done it all on the inside and most customers would have thought thats the only way! Great job - I hate seeing conduit on the inside of the shed. Two quick questions. My log cabin has vertical battens to cover storm braces on the outside which would make it difficult to fix a run of straight conduit. Any reason not to use the Copex all the way round? Also, for 62mm log cabin walls, would you use bell connectors on both sides of the wall? Thanks for a great video.

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  11 месяцев назад +2

      No reason not to use copex only it’s not as pleasing to the eye, you can easily bend solid conduit over obstacles tho for a nicer look. Or even just a small section of copex over the obstacles if you’re not confident in bending the conduit, but it’s really really easy. 62mm you could probably use 2 yes. Or female adapters etc

    How do you guys find out about the little products you use - like the bell connectors for your backboxes. Maybe not them exactly, but do you look through the bookets/pdfs at the suppliers for fun or is it from trade shows or just word of mouth? I know a lot of it's going to get taught as standard and requirements, but these vids someone always seems to show a new nifty product or gadget they'll be using.

A lot of the time it’s because I’ll come across a little issue and think they should make something to solve that, then I’ll go searching and find out they have. 🤣

      Ahhh there’s a reason for that, multiple reasons. Let me explain.
      We wouldn’t want to be held accountable for “showing” someone how to do things, if/when things go wrong.
      Then, all installs are different, the length of the supply etc all determine what’s needed, and there will be multiple ways to supply a summer house, and only seeing the job in question could we determine which way is best suited.

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  2 года назад +1

      It would work yes but wouldn’t achieve selectivity with having 2 RCDs in in line.
      You could potentially have the summer house fed from an rcbo and have none in the summer house.
      In this instance it was a split load board in the main house so I didn’t want anything in the summer house to trip half of the main house.

    • @Cablesmith
      @Cablesmith  2 года назад +1

      i usually do use solvent weld glue yes, but in a summer house i don’t just because it’s a wooden structure and will definitely expand/contract so leave it with a bit of movement.
      I’ve actually seen some a year on and the conduits have bowed right out due to the contraction.
