2:21:01 at clutch time, Henin hits the cleanest topspin backhand lob I have ever seen, male or female. The fact that it’s one-handed makes it even sweeter.
I saw Graf hit a beautiful slice backhand lob on the run at clutch time against Venus Williams in Wimbledon ‘99.
Two totally different strokes but each one beautiful.

And by the way Amelie Mauresmo, by far had /has a much BETTER back-hand by far than Justine. Amelie's back-hand was an extension of her arm and she makes it look easy.
Question: what the hell did Justine have always around her lips...she always had those sores?
SERENA IS THE QUEEN & whipped Justine's flat but.

The French crowd are the rudest, most racists of the 4 Grand Slams. Serena was leading 2-6, 6-4, 4-2 and 30-0 when they started their heckling and booing. Henin added to the controversy, when she questioned a line call that was clearly out. The crowd thought otherwise and booed the umpire's call which favoured Serena.
This added to the hate and racist chants which clearly had an effect on Serena's game.
Henin not only went on to win the match, but also won the title beating Kim Clijsters in the final.

    • @JCole-fg3rr
      @JCole-fg3rr 4 года назад +67

Conor McSmith Serena was up 4-2, 30-0 in the third set. Serena served a first serve, and Justin held her hand up as soon as Serena made contact with the ball. Serena’s first serve went in the net, and the umpire called second serve. Serena tried to explain to him that it was still a first serve because Justine had her hand up. The umpire said he didn’t see it, and Serena pressed it, and asked Justine to speak up and she wouldn’t own up to it. The crowd then started booing Serena for every fault, unforced error, or anytime Serena got fired up. Serena was never the same after that. Serena won one more game in the last set. Serena was extremely shaken after the match and broke down in tears, calling Justine a cheat and a liar. Justine did play well, but it clearly changed the outcome of the match because up until that point, Serena was on fire and was not missing. She was on track to go up 5-2. It is sad that they removed the commentary. Then in 2011, Justine did an interview where she admitted that she cheated against Serena here in 2003, and that she cheated against Clijsters too in the 2004 Australian Open. Justine said the reason why she did that too Serena was too stand tall against her and prove she couldn’t be pushed around. I’ll link two articles for you.

her average groundstroke speeds were nearly identical to Serena’s - and both players hit to significantly faster sports than Davenport, Sharapova or Clijsters.
Henin and Serena were /two of *five players/ to hit over 90mph at Wimbledon in the 2000s, doing this multiple times on the forehand.
Even on serve there wasn’t a significant difference on average 1st and 2nd serve speeds, Henin having one of the very biggest serves on the tour - if not always reliable (a product of *constantly changing the service motion, imho).
      Henin’s fastest serve was 122mph + typically at its heaviest c. 2005 - 2006.

Justine Henin was a cheater. It's sad because she was good enough to win on her own and she is definitely one of the female greats, but this was her breakout win and she cheated to get it. Sad that the crowd didn't care about it and gave Serena grief, but the world still remembers. Henin wasn't known for her sportsmanship and anytime world wide tennis' sweetheart and beloved fellow countryman Kim Clijsters doesn't care too much for you, something is wrong.

If I had to undergo a fraction of the scrutiny she has. I'd lose my sh*t on occasion too; probably much more often as I'm a man. She's literally been cheated and ridiculed at tournaments (Indian Wells and US Open respectively). That is a lot of pressure to be under. And she has done it quite well given how long it's been happening and the frequency at which it has.

  • @willybeama1

This was during the era where Serena could commit many errors and still win. Largely because of her serve and foot speed. As she has become slower she relies far more on tactics then overpowering. Justine had the talent to really get her in strange positions while also hitting winners. On clay, that is a winning combination against Serena. She has always struggled against all-around players. I wish Justine had admitted what she did during the moment but history is written. Not the most beautiful match but the level of fight was extremely high from both. That was overshadowed by the gamesmanship of Justine. I guess it doesn’t matter because Justine would have won either way that day. Still unfortunate.

The umpire should have seen it and called a repetition of 1st serve. That's not exactly a cheat. After all, Serena Williams broke Justine Henin's serve when Justine was serving 5 - 4 up at the 3rd Set and even so she didn't win the match after all. Henin has beaten S. Why would Serena continue to serve when she saw Justine's hand was up? Serena, struggling in this match, was clearly trying to get a free point in case it was "an ace."

At least Serena doesn't cheat in Slams unlike Henin who won the 2003 RG and 2004 AO by cheating, which she literally admitted to in 2011.
Oh, and how about retiring in a Slam final? Lol.

Serena had the cross in motion and merely hit the ball. Its hard to control things always in middle of a game. Justin lied about not having hand up clearly.

serena hit the ball in the net and are we saying that's because Henin raised her hand...I like serena but she kept looking at her opponents in that bitchy way in most of her matches....she had all sort of misbehavior in many matches..talking about Henin she should have asked the umpire to give a first serve to Serena ...Henin would have still won the match

Just cause that incident about the hand up or not , don't blame Henin or call her a cheater , in many sports such as Volleyball of touching the net or the ball when blocking , players always deny it and it happens on every sport . The match was exciting and powerful in all aspects not cause that incident Hennin is going to Hell neither Serena is going to heaven . The games are won on the field no matter what and the crowd was on favor if the smaller player . Again if you are going to a Stadium where people screams yell and clap and you don't like it then stay home a watch it on Tv . Serena cried on the interview and it was cause her frustration to lost the game and couldn't keep going forward not cause the crowd . She had the experience to play with big crowds so I don't see any abuse nor feel pity for her , she is already a Champion and She knows it
